Hi all,

[edited]

I want to collate data on what props (weapons, clothing, etc.) fans find to be the most iconic, recognizable, or near and dear to their hearts.

[end edit]

So what do you consider to be the most iconic/important/identifiable piece(s) from the show Firefly and the movie Serenity?

List as many items as you want {edit: please don't list the characters or quotes}. I'll tabulate everyone's responses and then post the top ten list based on the number of votes each item gets.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

Are you talking about things in the show/movie itself, or official merchandise that we can purchase?

Two items.

1) The browncoat, which is about as iconic as it gets, unless this list includes the ship Serenity.

2) The Jaynehat (toque).

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

Definitely the browncoat and the cunning hat. I will also submit Kaylee's parasol and teddy bear patch, Zoe's vest, the blue sun shirt, the blue gloves, and River's oversize sweater with a skirt. The guns are also very unique, but in my experience with costumes they aren't spotted nearly as easily. However, if you're only talking identifiable (when seen) I'd say Mal's pistol, Zoe's mare's leg, Jayne's pistol, and Vera all rank up there.

You may say I'm a dreamer. But I'm not the only one.

Ok, we got some good stuff listed so far!

I don't think we should count Serenity, though, because to me, she's more of a character than an 'item' like a hat or gun. Also, I'd like to keep this top ten list reserved for physical items, rather than quotes or body parts. Perhaps a separate top ten list is needed for quotes?

The Blue Sun logo is pretty darned iconic.

My Blue Sun t-shirt ONLY gets reactions from fellow Browncoats; no one else has any idea what it is, but Browncoats recognize the logo on sight.

I've had people notice my Serenity Logo, Serenity photo crew shirt and Captain Mal pic shirt.

So I'll add Serenity logo to my vote.

:) Yes, but I was looking for 'pieces' or 'items' used in the show/movie, not the characters themselves. I want to collate data on what props (weapons, clothing, etc.) fans find to be the most iconic, recognizable, or near and dear to their hearts.

STOWEAWAY

That's a tough one because the more I watch the series, the more I start to focus in on objects that in earlier viewings seemed insignificant.
Now some of them seem pivotal.
Hmmmm, here goes:

> Vera, Jayne hat, rainstick
> Kaylee's parasol and layered cake dress
> Saffron's "hat made out of a tree" and fresh bao
> Apples, Strawberries, hot cheese and tall, chocolaty birthday cake with emergency candles
> Blue Sun logo
> Hawaiian shirts and dinosaurs
> A derby hat
> Inara's saris, tea
> Canned peaches
> Leather vests and brown coats
> Black boots
> A tree branch -- it doesn't mean what you think
> A ball & jacks -- I can do this
> Earthenware cups and jugs -- that was significant enough that Adam stole one off the Firefly set to bring to the Serenity set

I think that's all I've got. A few other things jumped out at me during viewing but were not anywhere close to being iconic.

There were a few things that were mentioned but never shown. Nevertheless, a Firefly fan would get a chuckle out of seeing one. How do you guys feel about....

> hamsters?
> post hole diggers?
> terrifying space monkeys?
> bobblehead geishas?

Ack! I need to stop now. Can't wait for the results.

wow! shiny list Stoweaway!!

I guess we can include non-screen things like the terrifying space-monkeys and the bobblehead geishas? Any other thoughts on this??

Try to be more specific when listing items. Leather vest isn't enough - whose leather vest? Zoe? Browncoats? Mal's browncoats? Inara's tea? Do you mean her tea set? her tea pot? Earthenware cups and mugs? Mudder's milk jug? Mudder cups? whose black boots?

I want to keep this somewhat specific and want to avoid being too generalized.

Thanks to Stoweaway, the list now includes of 40 items. I'm not going to say which item is in the lead!! hehehehehe....

Keep voting folks!!!!!

Is the sign on Kaylee's door valid? It isn't actually a sign because she painted it onto her door.

The sign is actually a painted piece of wood board, which hangs on the door.

I'd post an image, but I've never learned how to do that in this forum. Maybe someone else can post one!?!
