I don't think the imponder zombies fed on enough brains. What happens to zombies that don't feed?

Anyway I've got a ponder. Gifts...it's the thought that counts. What all does that even mean? A friend of mine said she was shopping for a "trimmer" for her bf's birthday and considering the other gift she has for him is a garden post I thought this meant lawn trimmer. I was like sweet shit woman that's a horrible present. Turns out she meant beard trimmer which is a step in the right direction at least.

Anyway the point is are gifts just good cause someone thought of you or are they still bad if the thought was so bad that they got you a lawn trimmer?

OMFG I had to close my door. because of the funny. hanks 'Neko.

I was reading an online comic of which the truth of the scenario was...

... zombies are actuallt starved out vampires doomed to rot and eating the flesh of the living.

Had a dream last night that a group of people traveled between towns on a train that moved supplies and material after the zombie invasion. Wierd dream.

Gifts: Seems I get more now that is practical and is used often. When I was younger I used to get clothes that I might put away for a few years before actually wearing them. Wierd, but they always seemed more awesome later on.

Hmm most guys I know really like practical gifts..

I like socks personally... that and bath and body works or body shop stuff. Unless it's an SO and then , for girls, the less practical the better

LOLZ thats why i wait to view funnies until im home XD fewer weird looks.

speaking of weird dreams, i had a dream last night that my friends and i were on a trip, and at one of the places we stopped someone kept stealing our glasses (never figured out who, and half my friends-including myself-wear glasses), dismantling them, and taping the parts under a random sink in the building. made no sense whatsoever, but i started getting really pissed cuz the rat who stole my glasses fully dismantled them, and they werent cheap >< weird, stupid, whatever.

gifts: as i grew out of my kid phase i started asking more for giftcards or practical stuff than anything else, that way i could just go find what i wanted in terms of clothes or whatever rather than having to go through the hassle of exchanging something if it didn't fit >< or being stuck with a book i'd never read (rare, but it does happen)

Well to also make this even more confusing he gave her a list of stuff he'd like and it was full of stuff like videogames. She's apparently ignoring that because they don't seem "personal" enough.

How is a beard trimmer personal? Would she enjoy a hair curler or something as a birthday gift from her bf? I'm thinking no since she's already told me her list was a bunch of fluff and a necklace from tiffany's that he "better get".

I'm a bad gift receiver though. I try not to let my emotions show if I get a crappy gift but in my head I'm like "YOU SUCK!!!!". Especially when there's something obvious. This guy loves videogames. Even I know that and I've hardly talked to him. That's why I specifically asked her if there's a game he wants and she said he put a bunch on a list. Why not get him what he wants?

To me it also feels like if you avoid the obvious interests of the person it's like you don't know them at all. Which again leads to my "if your thought sucks and it's the thought that counts..." thing.

lol makes sense. @_@ a necklace from tiffany's that he better get, sounds high maintenance *raises red flag*

did you tell her that he *loves* videogames? i mean, jeez, if he's a videogame nut and she's been to his house she should have noticed the player and the rack of games on his wall, because every videogame lover i know has their stuff visible.

and you're right, if people are being inconsiderate how much does the thought really count? :-P i mean if they're excited about it and genuinely think you'll love it, then it counts for something, but if you gave them a list and they genuinely ignore it, its like wtf?

LOl that totally sounds like my mom
As I told NV just because we tell ehr what we want for christmas, birthdays etc. doesn't mean you'll get it... we asked for a waffle iron for our wedding and we're getting christmas decorations because she wants to give us that instead...annoying. So really it's not the thought that counts it;s the intent to purchase/make something to please the other person or to think of their wishes that counts

I can't say that the gift of a lawn trimmer, or a beard trimmer is a good gift....it could be that the girlfriend wanted to get something that lasted longer than a video game.

For me, "it's the thought that counts" is exactly what it says...it's not the amount of money, it's not the thing itself, but the feeling and intention behind the gift.
I've gotten extravagant (for me) gifts that are great and nice, inexpensive gifts, even recycled gifts (a used webcam, for example)...
The ones that mean the most to me are the ones that weren't necessarily expensive or flashy...there are a lot that are inexpensive, but show that the person who gave it to me knew me and gave the gift with love and caring.

(I've also gotten the inexpensive "what the heck were they thinking" gifts from those who don't know me, and the expensive gifts that I've loved also, but the intention/feeling/meaning behind the gifts still matter.)

...As a teacher, I've worked with students from a wide socio-economic range. I've gotten gifts that are extravagant (perfume sampler, expensive candies) to inexpensive -- candy canes, boxes of chalk (yes, chalk, because the student couldn't think of something that I'd like, so they got me something I could use in class) hugs, thank yous, secrets and trusts....And as a teacher, the heartfelt ones that obviously had thought about it and gave something that they could afford to give me meant more than the expensive stuff.

Don't get me wrong, it's taken me a long time to get to this point. But honestly, would you want to keep the expensive thing from someone whom you don't like; or something (that may be) inexpensive, but shows that the person knows/understands the type of person you are and put the thought, time and effort into your gift? I'd prefer the latter...even if I would love an expensive gift from someone who loves me and knows what I like.

Anyhow, just my .02 plat.

see it's the intent... I've gotten handmade bracelets that meant more to me than a hugely expensive piece of jewelry. It's all about the amount of thought and knowledge put in to the gift. The basic question is did I buy this gift because I know/believe it will make the person I am giving it to feel happy

best gift I ever got was the complete Buffy the vampire Slayer box set because it is so me and so perfect and I'd never even thought to ask.

gifts:

To me, it seems impersonal to just buy someone something off of their list that they asked for, especially if it's for a significant other. It indicates a laziness in thinking of something that they would like. So, when I get gifts for my fiance, I tend to get one thing he asked for and one gift that is more thoughtful that I think he'll like.

The gifts I enjoy the most are the ones I don't ask for, the ones that are a complete surprise. They don't have to be extravagant or anything, just an indication that thought went into it.

OK note to all... do not combine a 12 hour work day with a restless night's sleep and a lot of morning activity.. I'm even typing slower than normal... so glad it's Friday

Oh see I only like surprises if it's someone who knows me really really really well.( which is pretty much limited to NV, Magda, and my dad) otherwise I end up with a gift I throw in a closet and never look upon again ( like my birthday presents from my mom which are still in the box she shipped them in in the back of th guest room closet) I'm picky about what I want for presents and would rather someone stick to a list.

Sorry you are sleepy though MsA. Might I suggest that you head right home and draw a bath. When finished make NVG give you a massage and then take an afternoon nap.
