Isn't that the name of a charactor on Ringworld? A girl who, like, has good luck?

I read that book a goodly while ago, so my memory's more than a bit fuzzy.

Teela Brown, Louis Wu, Speaker To Animals, and a Pierson Puppeteer who name eludes me at the moment. Classic SF novel by Larry Niven.

Ah. I see TeelaBrown posting on this site frequently, and I knew I recognized her name from somewhere...

ZaphodB - as in, Zaphod Beeblebrox? Ah, another SF novel of my youth...was my favorite book for a goodly while. Hell, perhaps it still is: haven't read the damned thing in so long, couldn't tell you if the me of the present would enjoy it as much.

Heh, Joss would do justice to a Ringworld movie!

The time is ripe ... the tech is there to do all the strange and wonderful visions that Larry Niven has given us.

Makes you wonder what authors Joss Whedon, Tim Minear and any of the cast and crew read and enjoyed.

I think the Puppeteer was called Nessus. Nessus the mad Puppeteer. It's been awhile since I read that maybe I should go pick it up again.

Nessus is corrrect, but I am unsure of the spelling.

It was supposed to be Greek/Roman mythology ref., if I remember correctly.

Yes, Nessus is the Puppeteer. And Teela Brown is the name of the luckiest girl in Known Space.

And I love Hitchhikker's Guide, Zaphod's username is one of the coolest.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

Not sure about the Sci-Fi Channel doing it, but Ringworld has been in development for some time now. Also, Niven has just released a new novel in the series, Ringworld's Children. Haven't read it, but just got the new catalog from the SFBook Club and it is one of the featured books this month.

Yeah, I heard about Ringworld's Children. Still need to read Ringworld's Throne, though.

Also, are you a new person? Because if you are, I have something for you.

If that question is for me, no I am not a new person, actually quite old unfortunately.

I've been a Firefly fan since "Our Mrs. Reynolds" originally aired, but did not start posting here until January of this year.

Teela learns to read. Question for Lupin Addams, not you. You I recognize.

LUPIN ADDAMS: Are you new?

I thought Teela Brown sounded familiar. Ringworld was a great read. Hope to get into some of L.N.'s new stuff. Interested in seeing something on the big OR little screen on Ringworld. Hope they don't screw it up!

Yeah. I thought Dinotopia was going to be a great show. Yikes, was I wrong about that one! It's been a while since I read Ringworld, but could you refresh my memory? Did it have a character named Hari Seldon in it or am I thinking of another book?

Just a little fuzzy on my recollections.

Hari Seldon to my knowledge is not in Ringworld. I haven't watched it yet, don't plan on it. I like my books. I got bored one day so I went through, found all the Dinotopian writing (Therapodal feet), and decoded it. All very interesting.

I wonder what I'm thinking of then. Hari Seldon...anyone know which book I'm thinking of? Yeah, the book versions ARE almost always better than the film versions.

Hari Seldon was the creator of the science of psychohistory in Isaac Asimov's Foundation Trilogy.
