I missed something!
Who knocked Echo out in the burning building?
Was it the guy from Dollhouse who works for the boss lady, with the grey hair, who doesn't seem to like her?

Yes, it was that man. His last name is Dominic and he was the one to tried to "take care" of Echo.

I liked this week's episode. I thought it was great.

It was very good-- a different (non tough chick) role for Eliza; continuing the questioning of the whole blank state for the actives; finally throwing that agent a bone by seeing her on TV; and now creating this inter-department bickering of sorts over how to deal with Echo.

Plus some good writing and comedy.

And the previews for next week look really exciting as well!

I missed next week's promo too.
What's the premise?

Now I am learning about scary.

They didn't show it in my area because of stupid March Madness! What did I miss? (Could someone give a brief synopsis?)

The Dollhouse was unofficially (and under some false pretense) working with the ATF to take down a cult, a la Branch Davidian.

Echo had small cameras in put in behind her eyes that, though made her blind, were able to show video of everything she did inside.

She was given the personality of a blind religious woman who wanted to join the cult.

It was pretty good.

I particularly like the fact that the reason Echo's persona broke with the cult leader was that she was a woman of true faith that had just experienced (what was to her knowledge,) a miracle -- and realized that God wouldn't have restored her sight just so she could be passive and die. A nice, if subtle, jab at those who think faith means you have to follow those in authority, well, blindly.

The show seems to be touching some truly interesting ideas about exactly what identity and free will are.

I've heard Joss quoted as saying next weeks episode is the point where the series really takes off. Here's hoping it does, but if not, I'm glad he got a full 13-episode commitment out of Fox, because that's just enough for a fairly self-contained plot arc.

"True Believer" was by far the best DollHouse episode yet. Eliza Dushku's(Echo) performance was outstanding in its delivery. She played the role of a blind woman very close to the mark. The show still needs a lot of work, but it seems to be getting better. I still think they are trying to add too many plots twist in a 1 hour show though.

The more I watch Dollhouse the more I begin to sympathize, and empathize with the character "Echo." Each week they put the character in a situation that might result in death, and each week I cheer her on to survive, which she does. There is something about this character worth caring about.

Another great episode.

Boyd is just better and better every week- I love the way he engages with Echo's 'characters' with such paternal sincerity. It's very touching.

Also this was Eliza's best performance thus far. Looks like she has found her rhythm.

Strong Episode.

My only beef with the show thus far is the fact that it focuses so much on Echo.

What I liked about Firefly was that it didn't have ONE main character....it had NINE.

Okay, perhaps Mal was primary, but still...

There's no fear that Echo won't survive an ordeal.
We know that with Joss, he WILL kill off someone to make an impact, but not at the loss of the show's no.#1 character.

I'm ok with the focus on her because that's what it's supposed to be. Despite that, I find myself very attached to some of the supporting case, like her handler or the "new" active. And if either one of them were killed off, it would be BIG. Really with the whole Alpha gone crazy plot line, pretty much anyone is open the getting killed off aside from Echo.

Agreed --- best episode so far. However, that's not saying much. I thought the ep really fell apart at the end, once the agent showed up to the burned out compound.

Also, I have no idea why Dominic knocked out Echo. It appeared Jonas was going to kill her or at least shoot her anyway and both Echo and Jonas would die in the fire. Why bother getting involved? Obviously, all Dominic did was piss of Echo.

Finally, nice to see some Drive alum. Jonas was the guy who had his flash drive stolen, and the ATF agent-in-charge was the cut man Tulley took the young brother to for mending after the brother was shot during the bank robbery.

random insignificant dollhouse questions..figured i'd post here instead of making a new thread (btw loved last week's ep).

first, think i mightve missed something, because i dont get why Echo (caroline) didnt have a 'choice' except to enter the dollhouse program....what did she do? or are we going to have to wait to find out?

second, i noticed on hulu that each ep is about 50 minutes long, but all the one hour shows ive seen via internet thus far are only about 40 minutes with commercial time removed and all. does dollhouse have limited commercials or something?

lastly, does Echo kind of remind you of River in some ways? not so much behavioral (though that's part of it) as some of the things she says...

can't wait to see how the Echo-Alpha storyline comes out ^_^ kinda wanna know why he cares about *her* as opposed to all of the other dolls he lived with.

The premise was good, and the acting of the major characters was greatly improved from some of the earlier fare, but I found some of the minor characters' acting in this episode a bit cringe worthy.

Even Eliza delivered her "I can see" line a little bit too flat. I enjoyed the rest of her performance, though.

Indeed. I think Dollhouse is maybe what the Alliance had in mind for River had they had their way, and had that story line played out had Joss been able to finish the arc... Who knows, it's certainly similar. When Sierra stormed in and whooped ass in the first episode I felt that she had River like abilities.

I'm also of the mind that Ballard is Alpha- but I'm alone with this...

well Alan Tudyk is Alpha according to imdb :P

yeah, Sierra reminded me of crazy River in that sense XD most assuredly. Echo's more the quiet schizophrenic River, only without being schizophrenic :P

Yes. This is the second program FOX has tried this with, the first being Fringe. There are the usual number of breaks, but they are shorter than normal, either 1 minute or 1:30 for all but the final commercial break. It is typical that most breaks for other shows are at least 3:00, sometimes 4:00 or more. If and when they repeat these shows something will probably be edited out so they can run more commercials then.
