We've all had them. Hopefully the dream was forgotten over time.

What is the point if having good dreams if we don't have bad ones too.

I was listening to a song from Benefit called Dreaming In Hell that details a lot of things that happen to people on a daily basis that other people never see. But it also goes into the alternatives people seek once they finally see those things. Kinda morbid, but people usually seek a better alternatives when faced with bad things.

I has a ponder...

Specifically, how much to lie to my mom about. See, I haven't been on the comp in a long long time, and I want as much time as I can get, and so I got on after mom started her nap, and she'll probably wake up in a couple of hours or later. I dunno if I want to try and play for the 'I was waiting for you to get on so I could get on the comp, but I just couldn't wait any more!', and get that much extra time, or play it down an hour or so to make the story more believable. What do you all think?

Honestly I wouldn't chance her finding out. Having been a kid who hasn't really grown up I've seen my share of thses things and someone always finds out. Someone is always watching. And you have already invlved more than one person in your plan multiplying the chances of being found out. Might as well just admit to it and make a case for getting more time.

I hope that didn't sound too parent like. It is more intended as a warning. I am a bad liar because of my terrible memory. I pretty much know I can't get away with crap because of it.

I think this is an opportunity for you. There will always be rules in life and you aren't going to like them. Just think of this as a lesson for the future.

If this were a job and your boss had told you what to do you'd be left with 3 options
1.) disregard the rule and do what you want (potential risk: you get fired)
2.) follow the rule and just live with it
3.) discuss your concerns with your boss and attempt to convince your boss to change the rule

Learning option 2 and 3 will serve you well later in life. Getting used to option 1 will set you up for some tough times.

If you act professionally and present your case to your parents (the boss) then maybe you'll convince them to change their minds. Maybe not. You have to live with their decision either way though.

I said the same thing in the bar. You get busted and they know they can't trust you. If they know that they're a lot less likely to let you off grounding or trust you later.... it might be fun to get more time now, but I doubt it'll be worth them locking the comp or not letting you on 'cause you lied... and all they have to do is check the history on the comp to know how long you were on... wiping it won't help either the time log in terminal is uneraseable

Aliens.

Being chased around by aliens sounds a lot more interesting than being chased around by dead people. At least then we will have confirmed the existence of extra-terrestrial life.

Plus, if there's Zombies, then that means I'll eventually be a Zombie too. (And not just in a three-hour history-class monotone professor zombie way.)

Unless of course they are zombie aliens. That would change everything.

Aliens are far too unpredictable to even consider over zombies. At least the garden variety of zombie is a bit more predictable and can be fought.

I thought of the whole becoming a zombie thing. I think being fitted with a collar that explodes when a person reanimates might be a good idea. Sucks if a person has a heart attack or stroke that might have been survivable though.

An alternate version of this question:

Would I rather be killed by aliens or become an animated corpse that attacks people for their brains?

I'll take the aliens. When I die, I want to stay dead.

Besides, who knows what the aliens really want or if they are easily defeated once you know that country music causes their brain to explode. It could be a peaceful invasion...most likely not, but there's a possiblity.

Yep. Humans rule the world cause we're the most intelligent. Zombies don't win the intelligence war. Space traveling aliens would probably out smart us and then we're hosed. We're not particularly fast, strong, or durable. All we've got is smarts. Bring on the zombies!

Zombies have at least three force multipliers in their arsenal. Granted we are discussing Romero undead sort.
1. They are already dead. Hunger, sleep, and emotion are not an issue with them.
2. They eat people. People who don't die from an attack risk becoming a zombie sooner after having physical contact with them.
3. People are generally stupider than zombies. Okay, hear me out on this one. People are prone to panic attacks, power trips, and low self esteem/morale. They will as soon kill and eat each other once times get hard. People are their own enemies.

Combat/situational fatigue sets in on the average person within the day. With an unfamiliar world and unprepared mindset people will literally walk into rattling gunfire or a zombie hoarde without blinking. Healthy humans can get sick, make themselves sick, and can get other people sick. Not with the zombie plague, but with common things like colds and STIs. Zombies do not have to worry about protecting weaker group members, carrying necessary equipment, a steady supply of food and water, or all but the most extreme weather conditons. And people will die only to become zombie.

At least with they varying possibilities of alien life they are limited by their exposure to this world and its inhabitants. In theory this planet offers natural resources needed by any number of theoretical being. Even humans provide some sort of resource whether they be food, incubation material, or manual labor. The possibility of human survival is greater with alien interaction than with zombie.

Or, at least in my humble opinion.

1 tank > infinite zombies

They wouldn't be able to damage a tank in any way. They're just flesh and bone. The military would win eventually.

Aliens are tough cause it all depends on their technology and their goals. If they want to I'm sure they could destroy all life on the planet. Bio weapons, nukes, even just hurling a giant asteroid at us. They would probably want an undamaged planet to inhabit though so nukes and asteroid are probably out. Still I think they'd be far too advanced for us to even defend against. They could just sit in orbit shooting lasers at us and we'd just be waving white flags.

Good luck on the tank. Tanks require a lot of fuel, ammunition, and infantry support to keep safe and running. When your enemy multiplies faster than you can be resupplied there may be the need to just bend over and kiss your own behind good-bye. In a world where transportation and shipping methods would be in complete upheaval fuel and ammunition supplies would be cut off in a short while. And the abuse the tracks would take. Not sure if I would want to pull out a whole tank crew to re-tread an Abrams with bitey folk about.

We are not the supreme beings we think we are. We did not cause global warming, the ending of an ice age did. Politics do not determine the outcome of humans and their survival, the Earth does. Whatever damage we could possibly do to this planet can be undone. It has been happening for billions of years and will go on for a few billion more without us.

There'd be fuel everywhere since there wouldn't be many cars driving around anymore. Plus military bases would most likely be just fine and they can send out supply choppers with relative ease. Even better is if these are the type of zombies who only come out at night we'd have all day to restock supplies and get back to mowing down zombies at night. I still don't see them as a credible threat.

I can't think of a single way we'd defend against aliens.

I am horrible at teh MaThz but one thing I grasped on to is exponential growth. The more people around you is boosts the danger potential to huge proportions. And it isn't just the dead walking about that should be our only worry. First responders will be the first to fall under the weight of casualties. They keep us safe, our roads clear, our utilities running. When the military gets involved it is already too late. National Guard forces may intervene in domestic situations but the actual military is hindered from doing so by the Constitution. By the time our heads of state can figure out what to do the military will have already suffered casualties; growing casualties.

And how many people would actually believe in a zombie outbreak? It is make believe. Out of the rhealm of possibility. Science tells us that alien life may exist. People lack the concept of the dead being a possible threat.

How many LEOs and soldiers will shoot American civilians in their own country? State? City? Neighborhood?

Superiority is our enemy. All the weapons available to us are next to useless when there is a lack of steady demenor and familiar hands.

I can honestly admit to making witnessed head shots at 250 yards with a 22 rifle. That is a paper target, not moving, no wind. The average American thinks they can handle a firearm but proficiency is not gained by seeing it in the media. Add fear, hunger, sleep deprivation, and emotional stress and any person can miss a target standing ten feet from them.

Sorry my bad FLT... I was just in the mood for a ponder that would draw out long discussions.

I think the zombie thing could be overcome if we can catch it at the start and wall off ( I mean gianormous 20 foor concrete walls) areas to pent he zombies until the residual electric charge wears out and then dump new zombies in... also if we moved swiftly enought to contain outbreaks and had a plan for decapitating all dead

Not sure about the aliens

Zombie exponential growth? pssh! Their tactic is to outnumber us and overwhelm us. That means maybe one new zombie for every 10 - 20 of them. That means they're growing at 1/10 per kill and killing a person is not all that easy. We at least know how to run away.

Aliens have the potential to outnumber us far more. They have the resources of every other planet in the universe. They can show up outnumbering us a trillion to one if they want to.

A war of attrition goes to aliens hands down.

Zeek, I must agree with NV. The military will be next to useless. By the time the leaders figure out what is going on, they will then argue to death what should be done about it. By the time they act, usually deciding to do the wrong thing, the military will already have been infected. True, they would have the skills to kill the zombies, but there are spouses and children on military bases as well. Do you really think that a man could kill his family if they were infected, especially if he had no idea what was going on? Honestly, I believe the bulk of people would be infected because nobody would know what was going on, simply walking into a situation where it would be easy to be overwhelmed. The Zombies would have numbers then and with every attack there would be less humans.

As for aliens having all the resources of other planets, if they are invading us, then one would assume that Earth can support their life. If Earth is the type of planet that they come from, there are very few planets like ours, compared to all of the planets there are. In addition, even if they populate 10 planets, they would have to get their people (term used loosely) here, which could be problematic. Nor would they send the entire population, which cuts the numbers a bit more.

Honestly, both have the potential to outnumber us and I don't see humans winning either way, as shown by my interpretation of the question earlier. I think the potential for living through the disaster is greater with the aliens because there is no one reason for the aliens to attack us, which makes discussion on alien invasion a bit problematic.

Their reasons are not are part of the conversation though. They're invading. So they're hostile. That's all that matters.

As for fatal weakness like water. Even our astronauts wear space suits. Their technology is more advanced then ours so you can bet they at least have suits.

The military doesn't have to wait for congress to defend themselves. When their base is under attack they'll act. One guy might not shoot his zombie family but that doesn't mean the guy next to him won't.

Our only chance against aliens so far is a massive flaw which is like hoping the zombies are allergic to air.
