I've been watching the Serenity Gag Reel again and besides being as funny as heck . . . I had a quick question.

In a few scenes when a line is flubbed, the actors yell, "SUMMER!!" Is that an inside joke? Did she have a history of flubbing her lines A LOT? Just curious.

Second question has to do with the scene in the BDM where Jayne and Kaylee are cleaning up the cargo bay after the Reaver attack. Is that a compression coil she's holding?

Mal: You think she'll hold together?
Zoë: She's torn up plenty, but she'll fly true.
Mal: Could be bumpy.
Zoë: Always is

to answer your first question, i forget where it was posted, probably on this site, but yelling 'Summer' when they messed up a line was a tradition that started during Firefly when Summer messed up one scene after a really hard day of shooting. guess it just kinda snowballed from there.

don't know about the compression coil, will have to watch again :D

I thought it was an inside joke because Summer hardly ever flubbed anything. So, even when she wasn't in a scene they would blame her anytime something went wrong. Just to give her a hard time.

I also don't know about the compression coil. Makes me think it's not though or somebody probably would have mentioned it by now.

Zeek and Freelance both have part of the story about yelling " Summer!" correct , the way I heard it. She was supposedly the best prepared actor on the set always, and then one day, at the end of a long session, blew a really big take. Everybody yelled at her, more in surprise and shock than anger. They got such a reaction out of her, they started to do it to tease her, and it caught on, to where she got blamed, even if she wasn't in a shot.

Funny.

And also . . . I'm thinking the Compression Coil or the Catalyzer. Whatever blew out in Out of Gas.

Aw, poor Summer, she seems like the sort of person who would have been really embarrassed that first time.

And yes, that was most definitely a catalyzer that Kaylee was very carefully salvaging.

Can never have too many of those.

I thought it was because Sean accidently called her "Summer" during a scene instead of "River", atleast that's how I heard it.

I wish I knew who bought that part Kaylee was holding. It sold on Prop store of London a couple years ago. I believe it was similar to the "coil" from Firefly, if not identical.

And Jewel commented once that Summer flubbed her line at the end of the "oner" in OiS, when the camera went from the Infirmary to the cargo bay and ended with Jewel and Summer playing jacks.

I heard that the second part of the joke was that right after Summer flubbed her line, Nathan then flubbed his line, and then he yelled "Summer " at himself.

Yep, the "oner" was a long camera roll, transferring from character to character, everybody got their lines right, for a long camera pan, until the last line was flubbed by Summer.
After thaqt, everybody Called Summer for every flub. On the shot of the first script reading of Serenity, somebody flubs and they all immediately call Summer, even after 2 years. That might be on Done The Impossible.

It's on youtube somewhere... at one of the cons, Summer mentions it. If I happen to find it, I'll post a link.
