This isn't a Sci-Fi show by any stretch of the imagination, but did anyone happen to catch "Glee" last night on Fox (I think it was Fox anyway)?

I just finished watching it on Hulu and I gotta say it was one of the best pilot episodes I've seen in a while. Kinda cliche in parts, but I really, really enjoyed it. Then again, I was a band/drama geek in high school and could really relate to some of the stuff going on with the kids and their teacher/advisor. The guy in the wheelchair looks really familiar though. I'm gonna have to see if he's been in anything else.

I gave it a look last night because I like the High School Musical movies. I thought the show was pretty good. I'll probably watch it in the Fall.

I loved it. I thought it was hilarious. Can't wait 'til the fall to see more!

currently d/l-ing, forgot about it last night.
it is supposed to be set in my hometown, (Lima, OH)
but from the pre-air comments in our local press, they (not suprisingly) got EVERYTHING wrong Except the name of the town.
Wrong name of the school, wrong mascot, wrong School colors, wrong basic geography,( make it sound like it's near Cleveland, which is 3 hrs north west. )

but like i said, not surprising.
it would just be nice to do a little homework about the town whose' name you're using.
Like "the office", i don't expect them to have every detail of Scranton right, but they have worked out approx where it is, and they sent a camera crew to Scranton to shoot the opening credit montage.
the only thing they did was make sure of the pronunciation of the city (L-EYE-MA, like the bean, not L-EE-MA, Like the City in Peru)

And I told myself I wasn't going to get attached to any more Fox shows...

It probably was the best Pilot I have ever seen. The pacing was nice, the executed the exposition and background stories without making it heavy handed. Great casting (Jane Lynch! I immediately thought of the hilariousness that is A Mighty Wind), great concept, and the finale at the end had me and a few other people ready to watch the rest of the season (great take on Journey) as well as sing along.

And with all of the promotion (San Fransisco is wallpapered with Glee posters) as well as merchandising (you can purchase the songs that were sung on the episode the day after on iTunes) I think Fox realizes they have a potential gold mine. The concept reaches out over all demographics from people/kids who like the High School Musical stuff, those who remember band/choir/drama, and people who just dig musicals.

Or even to people like me, who are none of the above, but just love the comedy of it and love seeing "classic rock" songs butchered and subjected to the whole choir thing.

"Rehab" was just hilarious. So utterly inappropriate for a high school choir, and they did it with big fake smiles plastered on their faces, like they had no idea what they were singing about...

Rehab was hilarious. I downloaded iTune's sneak peek a few days back and the peek was that clip. I went from being dumbstruck that a High School was preforming that song to laughing pretty quickly. The bright preformance smiles and sheer cheeriness of how they sung the lyrics was what sold it.

I also want to say that the songs they picked for each kid to audition to were perfect. Great way to flesh them out via their choices in music and how they sing it. ("Mr. Cellophane" probably being my favorite fit, though I just about dropped my jaw when the lead girl started belting out "On My Own". Though apparently the actress playing her got her break on Le Miz)

"Don't Stop Beleivin'" preformed by the Glee Cast is worth every penny on iTunes.

Broadway Lover's Note: The former Glee Instructor saying his girlfriend in Cleveland was upset about the accusations was a total shout out to Avenue Q and Rod's song 'My Girlfriend Who Lives In Canada'. Hurray for Broadway shoutouts! Especially ones that have to do with an adult rated Sesame Street spoof!

STOWEAWAY

So, apparently, if you die on Heroes, you are resurrected in a high school glee club. Awesome.
I was surprised to see three Heroes alum in the cast. It's American Pie + High School Musical. And the delivery had tones of Pushing Daisies and Better off Ted. Plus the music rocks!
I enjoyed it and I'll be watching in the Fall.

I gotta say . . . I'm so obsessive it's bordering on scary. I really like the Glee version of "Don't Stop Believing". I've listened to it like 10 times already today!

I need to listen to something else to get it out of my head for a while. Seein' as how this won't come back for a few more months . . .

It'll be interesting to see if they make any changes from the pilot to the actual show.

Please, please PLEASE Fox!!!! Give this show a fighting chance!

I've been seeing the ad's for it like crazy, but I just don't get what it's all about, or why i'd want to watch it. Just not the show for me, I guess.

Just a little tid-bit of new GLEE news for anyone interested.

Fox was so impressed with the sales on iTunes of the Glee version of "Don't Stop Believing" (it was the first of it's genre to reach the #1 sales spot), that they plan on releasing one or two more cast songs before the show aires in the fall. A possible contender is "Somebody to Love." One of my favorite songs. Artists are taking note, as well. The producers were called by Billy Joel who offered up any of his songs they might want. Pretty impressive when a star calls someone and says "Hey . . . um . . . if you wanna . . . my songs are available." More than likely though . . . the man is in need of the extra cash. But still.

I absolutely loved it. It's like a scripted reality show for Drama geeks (I include myself in that category).

Lovingly dorky, quirky and, yes, cliche but nonetheless HI-larious. Loved the song.

Billy Joel, really? That's awesome. For the Longest Time would be perfect for this show.

Can't wait, hope our friends at Fux gives it a chance. Hear that guys, please don't do the FF thing with this show.

Seriously.............

My brother has been following the Glee news (he and I are theatre geeks ourselves) and he told me about the popularity growing amongst all the recording artists. It seems the idea of them giving the show use of their songs without making them buy the rights, and in turn having their older songs introduced to a much younger generation (who, like my brother's young gen friends, will search for the original song on iTunes and then buy it or the CD) is a pretty good one that works.

Also he said that they're getting some talent to come on the show. Granted there's already talent on the show (Matthew Morrison and Lea Michele were both on Broadway) but Kristen Chenworth, Josh Groban and Victor Garber are all going to be guest stars (Whitney Houston apparently turned down a roll, however Eve replaced her).

This show is shaping up to have a lot of potential. Having more Broadway peeps come on would be awesome.
