You know what, you are right but remember that they were using the Firefly Font to do those posters so perhaps the people at Serenity are doing the same and that is the only reason why it looks like the fan made teasers posters.

Yeah, but the Firefly font, which I believe is Marriage Script, had to be modified so that it resembled the logo if I remember correctly. So, I'm guessing that the people at Serenity had to do the same thing. I'm not sure though...

i'll be the first to admit that i am not in love with this poster. it's pretty and all, but it doesn't really do anything for me. i got more of a thrill out of the teaser posters The Butcher posted in the Blue Sun room. this is a link to the Kaylee one but the rest of the crew are posted as well.

Guess I'll be second to say the poster leaves something to be desired. Over at AICN they're all saying the ship looks like a penis and from the unflattering angle on the poster I'd have to agree. You and I know the ship doesn't look anything like a penis but people seeing the ship on the poster for the first time? (And from a subliminal advertising standpoint the thing isn't even erect!

And the Serenity font without the old timey western parchment look and sepia toned film stock from the show, I'm sorry, just looks kinda--for want of a better word--girlie. Nothing wrong with "girlie" per se, mind, I love girlie when it works, but on the poster it just doesn't look all that exciting and adventurous. I mean all it would need is that little radiating burn-like effect like it was branded in the sky, y'know, like at the end of every episode. That'd be cool. Something that says "BDM" instead of "Feminine Hygiene Products...IN SPACE-ACE-ACE-CE(that's my echo effect

)!"

Edit: hmmmm, upon closer inspection, it does have the "branded in the sky" thing going on, but I still think it needs more...

Ummm ... I hate to be nitpicky here, but they must have awfully odd-looking penises to mistake that shot of Serenity for one. I'd recommend they hie themselves to a proctologist (or is it a urologist who specialises in male dangly bits?) ... pronto!

The bridge doesn't look remarkably like the glanse of a circumsized john thomas? And what is to be said of that vein-like bulge on the side? If you need to, place your hand over the engine/storage bay part of the ship and just look at the front end!

Of course you don't need anything near that kind of verisimilitude for folk to think a thing looks like a wasker, now do you? In conclusion therefore, and in spite of any picked nits, Annik, I must stand by my original post.

If the AICN people are tossing this sort of comment around, then it's going to apply to pretty much *any* angle depicting the ship ... and frankly, I think it's a stretch design-wise. Classically, phallic symbols tend towards the long and smoothly-contoured (think: Saturn V rockets, jet fighters, Washington Monument, etc.) ... I believe it would be a sadly inebriated artist who came up with Serenity as a model for a phallus.

But hey ... I could be wrong ... just because I've never seen something like that doesn't preclude the possibility of its existence. Perhaps someone, somewhere, has a wanker that looks just like Serenity. And I say that man should really see his doctor. Quickly.

The "Firefly font" is named "Nuptial Script". I purchsed this font at: www.myfonts.com

I think it can be found elsewhere, but this is the site I used. It's a very well run website and I've purchased several fonts there.

Here's hoping it's a preliminary concept. It looks like someone just typed "Serenity" in Nuptial and bent it a little - not nearly as pretty as the twisting "Firefly" logo.

My complaint (after a semester of graphic design in college) is that it just doesn't hold together. There's nothing visually to draw your eye from Serenity to the title, or to that big nebula & planet graphic. They look like separate elements that've just been dropped onto a background.

And it's not even an artistic pun on "serenity," or an artistic thing like that "Corner of No and Where" wallpaper that was in the Blue Sun Room a while back.

Sad to say I got the same reaction from fellow posters at a Buffy/Ats board I frequent.

Typical response: Phallic Much.

And also queries as to why it was called Firefly when it looks nothing like one.

These are mostly Joss fans who have not watched the show, so I figure it's a valid observation.
Even I, on looking at the poster again can see why they they got that initial impression.

I am not overly impressed with the teaser poster design in general, it does not intrigue me or make me want to know more which is what a teaser poster should do no? I hope it changes.
