did you notice i also missed the apostrophe in "theyre"? I'm talking about people who spell phonetically because they're too lazy to look up the correct spelling, not ppl who shorthand, like i do on occasion XD

i may type shorthand/aimspeak online, but never ever on a document.

I don't think I've ever seen you use an apostrophe, and on occasion is the understatement of the century. And I know a few people who do the shorthand/IMspeak, but they don't do it on the boards. That just comes across as lazy to me, and I know lazy.

I wouldn't get mad at those who spell phonetically for being too lazy to look up a word. For those with difficulties in that area I imagine they probably would try looking up a word but are sometimes unable to find it. For example, if they were to look up the word phonetic, they might look under the letter F, because that's the first sound they make. Sometimes it bothers me and/or confuses me when people do it, but I don't get mad, cause it's probably something that causes them enough grief already and I am far from perfect myself.

My two cents on that lil debate.

yeah but if you can read you shouldn't have a problem looking it up. and if you go online and you spell it wrong, m-w.com gives you a list of suggested spellings if it doesn't know what it is, so then you really have no excuse :P google does it too. i don't know.

my friend has a pet peeve with ppl who use 'a's instead of 'i's in words. like definate. it just *looks* wrong.

its *definite*

zero - ok fine not occasionally @_@ and i *have* used apostrophes :P it depends on the day. if i'm on AIM a lot i tend to fall into the not-using apostrophes mode, but if i'm writing i'll start using apostrophes on the boards.

you'd love my friend then, cuz she wanted to make a board that has a shorthand/imspeak filter, so if you try to type something in im-speak and post it it won't let you XD i thought it was great, despite my tendency to do just that

While I probably wouldn't have the bottle to be like Jackie Chan, I think if I was in a movie I'd want to do quite a lot of the stunts on my own... the stunts usually look like fun to do. Fight scenes and driving and jumping and smashing through things. Anything that was likely to result in my death would be left to those more trained to do it though.

I'm not sure about stunts, but I think doing the research for a role would be pretty fun. Learning a new language or a different historical period appeals greatly to my inner geek.

That's cause you're a sick masochistic freak.

Any language works. Cause they don't follow logical rules. They have all sorts of stupid exceptions for no reason. Who the hell needs ph and f to both make the same sound? No one that's who. It's just some sick joke some asshole came up with. Don't ever give me a time machine or all those people will be dead and we'll communicate in binary forever.

I took both French and German to GCSE standard .. I got Bs in both, but it almost killed me. Some people just have a knack for languages. Like my friend, Peter .. he takes (at AS/A Level) French, German, and Fast-track Italian (where you basically do a four year course in two years).

He's also created his own language, with verb tables and everything.

The only thing I remember how to say in any other language is "Schlag mich baby noch einmal" which mean "Hit Me Baby One More Time" ..

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that is from words from other languages being integrated into English. That's where a lot of the inconsistencies and multiple spelling rules for one sound originate.

Just think, if you were in Europe and wanted to travel, you would probably have to learn at least 3-4 languages. We're spoiled in America having almost an entire continent that speaks English.

I agree that learning languages is fun, but it really should start in Elementary school, that's when it is easiest for a person to learn. It would be cool if children those ages could choose a language to learn and then keep with it through high school. It would make fluency in a foreign language much easier than starting in high school. Some elementary schools do teach Spanish, but I think the choice would be much better, since some kids are not interested in Spanish, but might enjoy other languages.

as far as my body could take me without breaking anything. being a stuntperson would ROCK. XD

holy crap, i completely agree on the learning languages starting in elementary school, especially since pretty much every linguistics person will tell you that the best time to learn and retain a language is before the age of seven (doesn't mean you can't become fluent after, it's just that before that age the brain hasn't completely locked into one linguistic structure). trying to learn a language in four years of high school and know it well enough to hold a conversation is near impossible ><;; comprehension ends up better than speaking ability.

*sigh* i guess i'll just have to live with rosetta stone (if i could frakin afford it ><;;)

Michigan has killer humidity. I just moved to South Dakota from Michigan and I'm loving the dry heat. It was 102 earlier and it felt like what 80 would be in MI. It's still hot, but it doesn't feel as hot as it really is. Humidity sucks. Arizona and Navada don't have that problem, as far as I could tell from a brief visit.

she's definitely not pregnant.

yes, she wants grandkids, but neither i, nor my brother's girlfriend are pregnant. she bought this crib over a year ago and wanted to keep it a secret from me and my brother (probably so as not to pressure us, even though whenever she's holding a baby she sighs and says "i want grandbabies"), but dad let a very VERY obscure comment slip, and me, being my deducing self and knowing how my mom thinks, i looked at him and said "she bought a crib, didn't she?" and he was like "..shit. um....yeah."
