I visit FFN and Whedonesque daily with the hope that there may be a glimmer to new stories. Yet, it is always the same, so I guess that I really just turned my mind off for a while.

So here is the Idea. (I apologize if this has been discussed before... I did a search and didn't see it)

Fox has the TV rights and Universal has the Movie rights but who has the rights to new forms of media such as the internet.

Perhaps some new mini-episodes like Dr. Horrible. It wouldn't even need all the actors or the ship. Perhaps 15 minutes snippets of two or three of the crew off on an adventure. Then distribute it just like Dr. Horrible.

It's just a thought.

Wellll... The problem is that both of those corporations have franchise rights, and there have been battles recently over producing new firefly stuff because all parties want a piece of the pie now.

For example, recently Fox sold the rights to a Firefly MMORPG (or something like that) to a video game company called Multiverse. The project stalled for this very reason.

But I'm not saying it's impossible, because at the very least, this shows that all of them have some interest in the franchise still. :)

Yeah, franchise rights I guess can get a little gray when it comes to the internet.

Maybe some story lines like the Adventures of Book or the Chronicles of Jayne, or The Life and Times of Kaylee.

Just something to appease us and test the waters for and spark new interest for a franchise restoration.

I've said it before on this board, but I have my suspicions that the reason Book-focused comic books from Dark Horse, A Shepherd's Tale are being delayed is because Joss and Co are thinking of taking them into another medium. :) Like a mini-series.

Here's hoping!

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

No matter where, when or how anything new in the Firefly verse comes along, if Joss is not in control, I'm not interested. Now if he turned the reins over to Tim Minear or Jane Espenson or someone of that caliber, I'd watch. Otherwise, no deal.

The profitability in internet video mostly comes from the merchandising of the media (in this case DVDs)

For example, Dr. Horrible made back its budget and then some from the DVD sales.

Unfortunately, DVD rights are usually held by the original broadcaster (Fox in this case).

I agree. Either one of those folks could do it.
Otherwise, it's got to be Joss.

I believe they announced more about the Shepherd Book comic at ComicCon. It's still a go as a comic and there's been no discussion that I'm aware of to put it out any other way.

Everyone is busy right now. Alan is doing V and DollHouse. Morena is doing V. Nathan is very busy doing the second season of Castle. I believe I saw a thread that said Sean was even busy again.
Jewel has a movie still in the pipe ( no word on a release date yet ). I believe Ron Glass is currently busy doing plays. Gina has a new pilot, I just don't know much about it.

Tim and Jane are doing DollHouse and Caprica respectivly. Joss is of course already busy with the second season of DollHouse.

I'm sure Joss has thought of doing Firefly/Serenity in other ways, particularly with the success of Dr. Horrible. But I think everyone's thoughts are elsewhere now. Plus he's already said...no phone call...no new Firefly.
Believe me, when there is a phone call, it'll flash all over the 'Verse so quick our heads will spin.

What we can do best is encourage folks to watch Firefly and Serenity. Invite them to take part in the fandom and charities that we Browncoats do.
Then when the next installment of FF/S arrives, whatever and whenever that may be, there will be lots of happy fans to turn it into a hit.

I've got half the crew in our casting cycle, so just because they are doing other things doesn't mean they could be involved in a Serenity / Firefly thang.

Keep flyin' on it.

Oh, I think they'd ALL jump at a chance to work on Firefly/Serenity again. They've all expressed so at various times. Schedules are something that can be moved around to fit actor's free time, that's true.
I'm sure everyone would be amenable to that.

For right now though, there is no money being spent by a studio to do that. Since a production even of a direct to DVD movie or a mini series ( both of which I find more plausible than a full series or another movie ) would take money that isn't forthcoming that puts us right back at waiting.

For Joss and company to do something on the web would be at everyone's discretion. That is always possible. I'd be right in line to pay to view it too.

I hope they fly again. I truly do.
But I'm not holding my breath.
I'm watching DollHouse and V and Caprica and expanding my genre viewing so that we always have good scifi/scifi related shows to watch.

When Firefly/Serenity returns in whatever form it returns in, I'll be watching, reading or listening. Even if I have to turn up my hearing aid.

AMEN!
But I know we will get it back,...its building and growing...soon somebody will come to see what can be done with it, I was around for when we got Star Trek back, FF/S is on the same path.
