There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

Forgive me if this has already been mentioned by someone else, but I haven't seen it. Nearly every day I have been visiting Universal's site for any new info on the BDM, and today I noticed for the first time that they now have a link for Serenity in the "In Production" column. Check it out:

http://www.universalpictures.com/

There is not anything there we haven't already seen several times before, but the best news is at the very bottom of that notice - OFFICIAL WEBSITE COMING SOON

Woo and Hoo!

oooooo, no this is new, i check everyday to see if these any new official news. I wasn't expecting a link to appear this early though as the films listed above it are yet to be linked to anywhere. I think universal are very aware of the internet fanbase for this baby and are workin on getting the full site up as soon as possible. You may notice that it states the release date we already heard from joss, the 22nd of April so thats still their target, very cool. I bet this advance has somthing to do with chris buchanon wanting to log production diary. Anyway isn't it time mutant enemy made their own official website. i sure think it is.

I like the way Serenity is described: "Futuristic action-adventure". That hits a better note than "Western Sci-Fi", which could sound odd to people unfamiliar with Firefly. Plus, "Western Sci-Fi" is not really accurate as it leaves out the whole Chinese thing. The "Sci-Fi" aspect is just a backdrop for Firefly's storytelling anyway... Something the sci-fi geek trolls never could "get".

"Futuristic action-adventure".... mmmmm me like...

Some of the best damn news I've heard all day. Hmm... If any of you noticed a new member of the cast mentioned there, and don't have a clue who the hell he is, here's the guy's filmography: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0252230/

-------------------------------------------
"BADGER: You think you're better than other people.
MAL: Just the ones I'm better than." -Shindig.
-------------------------------------
"MAL: Gotta say, doctor, your talent for alienatin' folk is near miraculous.
SIMON: Yes, I'm very proud." -Safe.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I agree 11th. I think listing it as "futuristic action adventure" will be more of a draw than "sci fi/western".

Now if only we can get a web site up over at Universal......

It is a good description for the newbs, isn't it? and I would go with Sci-Fi Western, putting the Sci-fi first, since they were in space more than on horses.

Funny thing is, Star Trek was initially pitched as a "Wagon Train to the stars" because the studios in the 60s were more into Westerns than Sci-fi. Rodenberry did that to get the studios to look at his pilot, and if you watch the original pilot, THAT was Sci-fi at its finest.

I was called a geek in my computer apps class last night - by a guy who understands that in my own little corner of the 'verse, that is the highest of all compliments.

The original pilot for Star Trek (with Jeffrey Hunter) was excellent Sci-Fi. But then they had to shoot a second pilot because the network thought the first was too "cerebral". So Roddenberry made sure that the second pilot had a good, manly, fight scene in it!

Isn't interesting how both Star Trek and Firefly faced resistence to their pilot episodes? We look back at Star Trek's pilot and can see how really great it was. But networks were not used to a show with that much thought in it. Seems Firefly had the same problem.

Took some time, but the mainstream finally caught up with what Star Trek was saying and then really dug it. I'm thinkin' Firefly will follow a similar path.

Oh, my earlier post wasn't a dis to geeks. I made sure to specifically include the word "trolls" in my rant. The troll gene is what makes them such an annoying sub-species. Geeks ARE cool.

The comparisons between Firefly and Star Trek are unsettlin' to say the least. I hope I am not being too optimistic when I say that I see Firefly being as wildly popular as Star Trek.

I had started a thread about this a few days back... well almost ( http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=2&t=5778), when i'd last checked Serenity still didn't have a link but the url www.serenitymovie.com ( which, according to fireflymovie.com, was bought by universal months ago ) had stopped giving me page not found errors and actually linked somewhere...

Admitedly it was only to the universal page but still, i had high hopes.

Glad to see I wasn't jumping the gun to much.
