Ya know, in the past I have made a post or two about the hypocrisy of Disney and it's practices of glut marketing all the finest fei-oo that rots your brain and your wallet and not to mention the environment uh *cough* *cough* WALL-E (and before all you Dis-lovers jump down my throat yes, I watch and occaisionally like their stuff, too) but the thing that makes me unnerved is they are taking over everything (hello?! someone define monopoly here)and they REALLY remind me of a Blue-Sun type company. Anyway >>>to the point... Today Disney announced by the end of the year they will be buying out (to the tume of $4 BIL!) Marvel Comics and henceforth owning the Fantastic Four (I suppose Miley Cyrus will be suiting up with them now) X-men (I think Raven will fit in well there) Iron man , and Spiderman ta name a few...

And yes, I suppose we could have a worse deity in the position of God Of Entertainment but I still am not comforted by the power they hold sway, even if it is just entertainment... anybody else as creeped out as I am?

Disney may buy Marvel but I think it will still retain it's original company name just that it's going to be in the Disney family now. I can't say I'm surprised with them buying Marvel, Disney does have a very wide range of demo and acquiring Marvel will surely increase their audience and $$$.

Supposedly, there is going to be a Wolverine 2, Iron Man 2 and X Men origins; Magneto coming out soon... Disney said hmm, have to get my hands on that $$$

STORYMARK

This is mainly about demographics. Disney does very well with the kiddies, and the pre-teens. But after the age of 10-12, they loose the boys altogether (they are still strong with teen girls). which happens to be Marvel's strongest demo.

This won't really effect the movie side of things for several years. Paramount will still release Iron Man 2, as well as Thor, Avengers, Captain America and a 5th undecided picture. After that, Disney would regain the movie rights for those characters. The ones owned by Fox (X-Men, Fantasitc 4, Daredevil) will remain at Fox as long as they keep making movies with them (this is why they started talking Daredevil reboot a few months back, and why they announced the development of another FF movie hours after this Disney announcement).

By the way, the stuff about Miley Cyrus was a JOKE, I understand all to well how subsidiary corp. are run (thus is my concern). And please stop takin' me so seriously people, I come here mostly for fun and some end of day conversation. My days of takin' me have certainly come to a middle.

Oh, and Storymark be careful how you say they are developing a new Fantastic Four movie (FF???) that little mis-read almost gave me need for some cortical electrodes and some cardiac ...uh infusers... stimulators- Ah hell if I'd wanted schoolin' I'dve gone ta school ...
