My brother-in-law likes the show, but does not own it. His girlfriend is an actress, and she's performing Saphron in a theatre company producing all the eps for small community production (Not sure if it's just for acting training or for public view yet), & she's never seen it. So to hopefully solidify another Browncoat, I lent it to them, and won't get it back until Christmas!!!
Was I insane???
I still have Serenity... but...
What if I suddenly NEED to see Arial or something???
Should I just buy a new set for myself & let them keep it?
Is FF on sale anywhere?

Why am I shaking???

Maybe because you haven't perma-mounted the 4 DVD ISO's on your computer? :)

Hmm, ask it back or allow a Browncoat-to-be to become one? I'd say, on account of a perfectly legitimate conflict of interest, just get a new set. Or just buy the BluRay box as well, like I did. That's what makes us special. :)

Theatre troupes perform the episodes? Like Shakespeare or something?

WHERE DO YOU LIVE??

Also, I know the feeling. I loaned out my firefly DVDs... Four months ago. I don't think I'm gettin' them back. But hey, I have an excuse now to buy the HD-DVD version.

You might want to reconsider the HD-DVD plan, since they never released the series on that now-dead format (though Serenity was).

You might want to get the Blu ray, though....

Yes, apparently. Firefly is very much like Shakespeare IMO.

Western Massachussetts, but the group doing EVERY EPISODE is in Manhattan. It'll take them years- they only meet once a month, if I have my info right.

Well, what are you doing with only one set of the DVDs in the first place?
I thought it was SOP to have an extra set for "conversion" purposes!

This is the correct procedure. The first time I lent out my DVDs I never got them back. I've actually had two successful returns of the DVDs. I'm impressed that these people were able to part with them.

There there Chris *pats your back consolingly*

As I have learned, always have a loner copy of both the series and the movie. Either rip them to your computer, buy a used set at a new/used store (F.Y.E. had a boxed set for $15 that I picked up as my loner set) or go to Target, as they usually have both the movie and the boxed set there and on sale. One set goes out to friends and family, and it doesn't matter if they get a little scratched up or are lent out for a long stretch, because you always have your set.

My god I wish a theatre troop down here in San Francisco would do episodes! The one right down the street from me is doing a stage adaptation of Barbarella on Halloween and I think they'd do a particularly loving portrayal of a few Firefly eps.

Y'know, this whole thing reminds me of the time in '79 (I was 16), when my Dad (a set designer for TV) got invited to an advance screening of some new show called... Battlestar Galactica!.

A guy came out in front of the theater and announced that the show's debut was going to be 3 hours, so they were gonna be showing us the "theatrical version".
For the couple of minutes before the curtain came up, I half-expected we were gonna be seeing it done as a stage play!
Afterwards I remembered seeing the words BATTLESTAR GALACTICA on a drive-in marquee earlier that year, when I was on a caravan trip that had a couple of stops in Canada.

Wow - I was 17. Chris, I always figured you for a little younger.

Don't know why. Maybe it's your humor. (I mean that in a good way).

Oh, and about your Firefly DVDs. You might be screwed. But maybe not. I've loaned mine out quite a few times, and still have 'em. However, I loaned them out to one of the girls I used to work with, and she made copies for herself and backups for me, and then I lent out the backups, and THOSE got stolen when the kid's house got broken into.

But I've loaned out my original set... let me count... one, two, three, four, five, SIX times, and gotten them back every time. And converted a few Browncoats along the way, one or two of which lurk around here now and again. And the girl who burned my backup copies for me then borrowed my Buffy and Angel seasons, and she REALLY loved those. She has now bought all the seasons of Buffy, Firefly, and Angel, and she shares them around to spread the word. Her sister is now a confirmed Browncoat, too. :)

When you can't walk, you crawl. And when you can't crawl... well, you know the rest.

At this rate, if I loan my Firefly set out and don't get them back, they're very well traveled, and have more than paid me back over the years, spreading enjoyment and the word.

Mike

Sounds like you're my age too. In '79 I was 19 too.

Too young to really be a boomer, yet old enough to remember all the cool cultural icons of the late 60's, 70's, 80's, and 90's.

Oh, you have to have backup sets to lend out. I have, let me see, 2 full sets, one set that's missing a disc (#4)and a Blu-Ray set. I have 3 Serenity copies too. That way I don't have FF withdrawl. (Hey, it's on Hulu too!)

So, not to spoil the upmanship, but Shopko has FF for $20 dvd. I will be going and getting it, again, for the 5th time, next week. They also had Get Smart seasons 1 and 2.

Dunno if your local Sam's Clubs would still have it in stock, but around a month or so ago I saw Firefly and Space: Above and Beyond for $18.88 each

Also, to elaborate .... Wal-Mart and Target brick and mortar stores are great places to get TV Season sets for $14.95 to $20 (including two seasons (or half seasons in some cases) of stuff shrinkwrapped together and costing $20)

And to stay on topic, I lent my DVD set of Firefly out twice with no problems and even bought two copies: one which i sold to somewone and the other I donated to a library (which I checked on the other day and it seems someone has not returned it since its due date in August)

Ummm, I believe that was Richard Boone, the man responsible for CBS' love affair with Hawai'i!

After cancellation of his weekly show, Boone and his family moved to Honolulu, Hawaii. While living on Oahu, Boone helped persuade Leonard Freeman to film Hawaii Five-O exclusively in Hawaii. Prior to that, Freeman had planned to do "establishing" location shots in Hawaii, but most production would be done in Southern California. Boone and others convinced Freeman that the islands could offer all necessary support for a major TV series and would provide an authenticity otherwise unobtainable. Freeman, impressed by Boone's love of Hawaii, offered him the role of Steve McGarrett. Boone turned it down, and the role went to Jack Lord, who shared Boone's enthusiasm, which Freeman considered vital.

'Cause after Hawaii Five-O was Magnum, P.I.

TRAVELER

You youngsters. Our Miss Brooks, I Married Joan, Hopalong Cassidy, and Jack Benny, were the shows I cut my teeth on. And of course December Bride with Harry Morgan who we all remember in Dragnet, "Just the facts mame" and Colonel Potter in M.A.S.H.

I've lent mine out too. Thank-fully I got disc one back and my co-worker is on disc two now.

I'll echo your "OH MY GOD WHAT HAVE I DONE!" statement only, my daughter is verging on being a *gasp* Buffy fan!

GAH! I have to go wash my mouth out now. Blech!

Thank-fully she's getting away from the sparkly vampire craze. (Having a daddy writing a vampirish book helps) and she's started with Angel... that's a good sign right??

Sorry I was only 12 in 79 BUT... Space 1999, Battlestar Galactica, Emergency, S.W.A.T (Had to have a SWAT hat!) Geroge Reeve is the ONLY Superman, Scooby-Doo, Speed Buggy... etc...
