“I’m not terribly interested in repurposing things I’ve already done. Obviously, I made a TV show out of one of my movies and a movie out of one of my TV shows, so it sounds like a crazy thing to say — except that I didn’t tell the same story in either of them. I just took the story I had further.”

OK! Browncoats never say die. But looks like Joss does.

BRINGITBACK

Unfortunately this has probably been the case for some time.

If he was interested in saving the franchise, he could have released books, worked on a game or continued his pursuit of some sequels.

Anything really compared to what he has done for the last 3 years, which is nothing.

As much as it may annoy some people here...I think it would be best if he handed the franchise over to someone who was interested in reviving it...instead of letting it die

America loves a winner!

The continuing story of our BDHs is left only to our imaginations. Pick up where the story leaves off, and write your own ending, folks.

The best we can hope for in the Firefly 'verse is some spin off type, w/ a vague, causal reference to Captain Reynold's crew, River or our favorite Companion.

There are the fan movies coming out, hopefully. Dunno where or when exactly, but as far as anything coming to video, that's the best we got.

Tell me where in that quote that it says Joss has given up. He said he took the story he had further, not that he had taken it as far as it could go.

I know it looks bleak some time, and Auraptor and quite a few others are convinced there will be no more, but I haven't given up yet. I'm still holding.

Its the word "repurposing" that I think is the crux of the quote. It doesnt in my mind mean that he wouldnt want to make more Firefly, just that he wouldnt want to change Firefly somehow to make it more palitable to the dumbasses that didn't get it.

I'm with you ECG.

Looks like the quote is from...
http://knowledge.wharton.upenn.edu/article.cfm?articleid=2152
...and it's from FEBRUARY. Not exactly *NEW* news.
Quote:

Knowledge@Wharton: Speaking of opera and musical theater, what are the chances that "Dr. Horrible" is going to make it to Broadway as a full-blown Broadway production?

Whedon: We talk all the time about all the possible venues for "Dr. Horrible." And then we go back to our day jobs that we're supposed to be doing in the first place.

Broadway is something that we've talked about. I had a very funny experience talking with a Broadway veteran who basically said, "Oh, yeah, come to Broadway because there you'll have complete control and be treated with respect, and it will all go really easily."

[Sarcastically:] Right. And I was like, "Hmmm, I think I'll go back to the Internet, where you just put it on for free!"

I would love to do it. Broadway is a dream that we all have. But I'm not terribly interested in repurposing things I've already done. Obviously, I made a TV show out of one of my movies and a movie out of one of my TV shows, so it sounds like a crazy thing to say -- except that I didn't tell the same story in either of them. I just took the story I had further.

And that's what I'm concentrating on with "Dr. Horrible." It's not so much like: "How can I squeeze another media out of this story" but: "What happened to him after?"

The question was about Dr. Horrible NOT Firefly.

Browncoats: Redemption comes out in September of 2010 at Dragon Con. Principal photography was finished this summer and it's being edited right now.

Another trailer will be released at the Creation Firefly/Serenity convention this weekend. Those of us that can't go will get it about a week later.

If you go, visit Mike Dougherty, cowriter, coproducer and director(and some of the cast I hope). They are all really nice and Mike is ...I better leave that unsaid.

I think he'll be at the Qmx booth.

JOSEPHUS

Some insight into this can be gained from watching the 2008 cast roundtable lunch discussion at the end of the Ariel episode on the second disk of the Blueray version of Firefly.

In regard to the cancellation of Firefly Joss states: "The pain never goes away."

When asked if he'll ever get over it he answers: "No! When you lose a limb you never get over it. That's how I feel about Firefly everyday."

"There's more poetry/wordplay in it than anything I'll ever do."

If this is any indication of his feelings toward Firefly, I suspect that he would welcome any opportunity to bring it back.

And the work is play for mortal stakes
Is the deed ever really done
For Heaven and the future's sake.

I Love my fellow Browncoats. Ahem!

Hey, how did Kaylee get in here. She just came in and took over my computer, does that seem right to you?
------------------------------------------------------

Okay, to the question at hand. Thanks to the level heads of ECG, Fearthebunnyman, Calhoun, RahlMaclaren we get our answer.
Special mention should go to Josephus for reminding us of Joss' burning passion for his 'baby.'

To wit:

"I knew it was a dirty lie the moment I heard it."
-Red Will Danaher (Squire Red Will Danaher, if you please).
As played by the irrepressible Victor McLaglen, The Quiet Man, 1952

As long as we hold, it will never die.
