So this idea has probably already been established; however, I just got done watching the full series and the movie, and I am still a little sad that I watched Wash die again. With the fan bass growing ever larger I think that it would be amazing (sadly very unlikely)if Joss Whedon made a second season starting back at the end of the first (currently only) season. This way he could make change a few thing around that happened in Serenity; my favorite being that Wash would be alive. This is just a thought of mine that I felt that I had to put out there since I still rather sad about his death and still don't want to accept it.

First off:

Welcome to the site, stick around, post your thoughts and queries. Pretty much everyone is decent 'round these parts.

As to your post then every so often someone like yourself comes along making this point. Usually they take things a bit further suggesting that everyone put money towards making it, do a letter writing campaign, make it themselves etc etc.
It's nice and they mean well but realistically it wouldn't be possible.

As far as I understand it to continue Firefly would require Fox to let go of the rights. At the time of cancellation I heard Joss was allowed to shop around for other networks but nobody took it on. We did get the movie but that was with Universal and is another story. I believe the rights to the show end in 2012 (anyone?) and if there is a continuation then that is the best hope we have IMO. It may not be in series form as the cast has moved on, in particular Nathan, Adam and Morena are all major players in their respective TV shows. Summer seems to be getting steady work, Alan seems to be one of those actors who will always be around in something. I'm not sure on the others. So getting them all together at the same time is going to be extremely hard.
My best hope is for an animated series with the cast providing their voices.

Hold on to your hope though, just not too tightly. Realistically it doesn't look likely but it's also not over yet.

Plus if you read comics there are those to give you more story.

Wasn't it FOX that canceled (and was the cause of it not being so popular while on air) Firefly? Why would they want to hang onto the rights to a show that they considered to be a flop.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

It's 20th Century Fox Film Studios that has the rights, not the FOX television network. And the reason they retain rights is because they financed the production and they continue to make money from the DVD sales.

If Joss were to somehow do a new season, I'm pretty sure that it would be within the continuity of the movie (to do otherwise would be too confusing), so Wash and Book would still be dead. Doesn't rule out appearances in flashbacks or whatever, but probably not in any regular sense.

If you want to see Wash alive and well and in action, pick up some of the comics from Dark Horse. The two miniseries basically equate to an episode each, with THOSE LEFT BEHIND acting as a Season One finale (and bridge between the series and movie) and BETTER DAYS occurring sometime before that (with the full crew compliment still intact).

The new one-shot, FLOAT OUT, centers around Wash, with three friends telling stories about him. Interestingly, I believe this is the first piece of official post-SERENITY fiction we've EVER seen (which, again, makes me think that Joss is moving ahead with the continuity of the series and movie intact).

Wash also figures prominently into at least one story in STILL FLYING, the latest visual companion. (Unlike FLOAT OUT, none of these new stories are post-SERENITY, although one does give us hints about the future--and Wash's remains unchanged.)

It may not be what you're looking for in a second season, but you might want to check out our virtual series at www.stillflying.net, in which we complete Season One with 7 more episodes, and then do a full 22-episode Season Two, using the story of the movie as a basis (in other words, "How might the story of SERENITY have gone if Joss had told it in 22 episodes rather than a 2-hour movie?"). We've got 29 episode-length scripts, and I promise you that Wash is alive for most of them.

Hi Eagyn - I feel ya, hate that part, never going to feel right even though I am an "artist first" kind of person.
I suggest you try Gwek's suggestion and check out their site: http://www.stillflying.net I think you will be very pleasantly surprised.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Totally agree with you Gwek. Joss has said the movie was pretty much how he wanted to wrap up season 1 and tie up some of the loose ends. I couldn't see him backing out of those events if he had a shot at a second season somehow.

My favorite Wash-Does-Not-Stay-Dead-Very-Long story is called "Indistinguishable From Magic" by kieyra http://kieyra.livejournal.com/186086.html www.fireflyfans.net/sunroomitem.asp?i=5185 There is no magic. Science brings Wash back. I like it because it was written fast -- the week the movie came out.

In the last week, Alan Sepinwall, who writes about TV, describes how poorly FOX handled the pilot episode of Firefly, thus murdering the show. Or at least negligent homicide. www.hitfix.com/blogs/whats-alan-watching/posts/firefly-rewind-episode-
1-serenity

And also in the last week, "11thHour" explains the business difficulties in resurrected Firefly before the year 2013 www.fireflyfans.net/mthread.asp?b=20&t=34491#782192

If you want to read the screenplay where Wash never dies, written by Joss Whedon before he decided to commit homicide against Wash and Book, there is this script:

The Joss Whedon script for "Serenity", where Wash lives, is
Serenity-190pages.pdf at www.mediafire.com/two

If Joss Whedon does not want science to bring back Wash, he could do a cross-over with Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
