Anyone else totally see this crap coming?

Didn't see this crap coming at all. That's just ridiculous. It's the freaking Carotid artery in the neck? If someone punctures that isn't it all kinds of bad news?

That's freaking nuts.

Didn't see it coming, but probably should've (any sentence that begins with "people wouldn't be so stupid as to. . .")

Can we start a "staking" trend inspired by Buffy?

Or maybe just leave a few mutilated corpses of their loved ones, to show them how real vampires do it?

But they're young and in lurrrve, and abusive angsty emo teen lurve is the truest of all!

Plus, if one accidentally kills the other, via infection or savaging the neck like a moron, they get to be all "life isn't worth living without my lurve!" And what teenager doesn't want that? A little attention in the spotlight, and hey, it's not shallow and selfish and immature if it's DARK, right?

Way ahead of you.

I'm also fond of putting red suction cups on fake wooden stakes, and going "hand to hand combat" with them. They act irritated and sullen, but they're always that, and I suspect they enjoy being able to brag about being staked by a vampire hunter.

The only thing more annoying than vampires is teenage wannabe vampire romance. It's very easy to sneak up on them, they're super oblivious.

Ok, ok, just kiddin, but goddamn, you just near killed me via choking on a chicken nugget here, as I damn near rolled out of my wheelchair laughing, Byte.

Also fun is beaming them with that unholy powerful flashlight of mine (Wicked Lasers Torch) and howling "DIE BLOODSUCKER!", as they flee in horror, which is even funnier since up close that thing really is powerful enough that you'll feel it, you can cook an egg on it, seriously.

Chasing them with pencils is also fun.

Ah, yes, then you get to tell people that you've "sharpened some stakes." And when they stare at you, you add "for the VAMPIRES."

On rare occasions, one of them might warrant the most impressive piece of my arsenal:

Y'know, I actually did know a girl in high school who actually kept sharpened pieces of wood in her locker. She was a blond cheerleader too.

(It's because she was in wood shop, but that didn't stop us from joking.)

I don't get the video, though I do like it.

Why'd the 'dad' come up from the floor when he reappeared ? That made no sense to me.

( clearly I'm missing something w/ the title and all. )

It's a piss-take of Twilight, the Sonlight of the title referring to their son. Basically if he was a cool vamp like Dracula he's okay. But because he's in black, sullen, glittery/glowing and with messy hair he's a Twilight vamp so he has to die. I have no idea why the Dad pops up from the floor.

Brit Comedian Jimmy Carr said it best the other night on TV.
Twilight gives you two choices - beastiality or necrophilia.

You think this is new and surprising amongst Twihards?

Since the books came out there has been violent teenage fans attacking (seriously attacking) those who vocally oppose it or hate it. You just need to google and find sites with list after list of fangirls going after haters (their word).

Everything from punching, hitting, broken bones. Even stalking. One girl was almost drowned in a toilet by some crazed fans, then denied it saying they were just having a bit of fun. On another site, a fan wished one woman had aborted her children and then thought they should die because she didn't deserve to have children, considering she couldn't understand the glory that was the Twifart saga.

Even adults (mainly mothers who seem, to me, to be living their own fantasies through the books) have shown/threatened violence towards antitwads, or condoned their childrens behavior.

More and more tweens have been getting violent to the point that many believe there may be a death soon. So as I see it this is just a new phase in this sickening phenomena.

Makes other fandoms rather tame really.

Oh, I forgot to add that I've avoided the Twilight craze, at all cost. That the family would want to off their son for falling in w/ the whole nonsense, I get. But I guess I read too much into the "son/sun" light play ( or non play ) on words, especially when the sister threw open the window blinds, and Jr was all glittery....

Don't ask. I thought it was a cool vid, regardless.

Yeah! And if she's my daughter, then...what does that say about me?

Besides the fact that I'd dress my son up as a Twilight "vampire".

I'm trying to remember if there was anything similar to this phenomenon happening when Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles first appeared on the scene. I don't think so. Mostly her books inspired some interesting fashion choices and party themes to invoke the elegant bygone days of New Orleans. But fan violence and attacks on non-fans? Not so much... if at all.

Why is there such a difference? Is it the times in which we live where people tend to think in violent terms first? Or is it that the Twilight books attract a high proportion of highly hormonally charged teen and pre-teen followers? Emotions often trump rational thought especially in the teenage years.

Well, except I hear the fan violence is parents, too. Though it's possible that's in response to what their kids (also fans?) may have started.

My suspicion is that Twilight, 1) somehow calls to something in these people that they relate with, 2) this relatability creates fanatical behaviour, and 3) this is the first thing many of them have ever really fan obsessed over.

Firefly can create something similar in new fans, like I myself am a first time fanatic, so it's like Firefly will always be my first love. The difference is, Firefly compelled me to become a browncoat, and browncoats have a preestablished structure to siphon new fan energy into positive activity.

Twilight, on the other hand, is engineered first of all that this energy is SHIPPER energy. Second that it pits shippers against each other within the fandom itself (Edward versus, uh, the werewolf, is it Jacob? I know the vampire and not the werewolf, me is sad). Third that it pits the series against the rest of the world, since there has been sincere criticism from the very beginning. And fourth, there is no organization among the fans to channel energy positively.

There's a trope for that...
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ShipToShipCombat
Kinda interesting to watch, from a safe distance, like a gruesome car wreck you just HAVE to ogle, not so fun when you get caught up in the crossfire, whether you care or not.

Part of the hard fanaticism (forgive me this lil bit of obnoxiousness) is that what the whole thing is... it's fanfic, bad fanfic, it's the book all of em WANTED to write, all of em DID write, but they didn't play the game, kissing up to all the right butts at the circle jerks of mutual suck up they call writers workshops and conventions, stroking the right egos, et cetera, not that it's all *that* badly written, but really it's prettymuch the same thing you can find on a million blogs and so it resonates with them, makes em feel like someone understands their angst in a way they never really get from a mainstream source, so they go full on bonkers over it.

That's not a slam on Meyer, mind, you can have the most technically perfect novel ever written and it means nothing if nobody bloody reads it, if you fail to appeal to your intended audience, and on that level of things it's pure win, sure.

Of course, what this meme REALLY needs to be complete is an equally engaging book series about werewolves, so we can get the whole Vulp-Vamp rivalry goin, and won't that be fun...

o dear god! what is wrong with kids that they'd actually do this crap? I mean When I was 7 or 8 I did the blood ties thing with friends I wanted to be "blood brothers(or sisters) with but even I knew a cut on each finger would be enought to cause an infection...and I also knew I'd get punished for doing it along with a lecture about impending consequences. Who the hell in this day and age is stoopid enough to bite someones neck and try to draw blood. Why don't these kids have more common sense?

the twighlight fan thing is definitely outta control. They get right in your face if they see you cringe whenever someones talking about it or get really offended when you say you didn't like the books.I once had a young woman actually tell me vampires would get me if I didn't believe in them??? ( I was like "a)are you mixing up Peter Pan elements with Twighlight? and b) it's a fictitious story" )Those responsible for marketing the whole mess are playing on the fanatacism and fuelling it...the whole team Edward vs team the werewolf guy was a successful marketting ploy to get more merchandise sold. I shudder when I walk into places and they have all of the overpriced twighlight parafanalia and people are buying it. Do I have any Firefly stuff? yeah, the comics and the books, but they are good value for money so I don't mind buying em.

Yeah I agree they do have a lot of stuff thrown at them, and a lot of it is quite profound, but the majority of them don't react by biting each other for territorial purposes. I think thats a disturbing sub group of really stupid or neglected kids. I know in Australia the majority of kids doing this stuff are from the "left to their own devices frequently" or the "too much time on their hands and alot of boredom to deal with" groups
