Important people don't do field work.

All right, we know its coming. There's going to be some cursing in "Serenity" that's not in Chinese. What's it going to be, and who's going to say it. And, it has to be something you can't say on TV.

I'll throw out a vote for Wash and "Oh Sh*t!"

There was some mild english swearing -Simon "SOB" Kaylee "Damn" etc.
I don't see why there would have to be any additional English swearin' in Serenity, after all the chinese works so well for the crew and they seem to come by it naturally enough.

I always assumed the entire chinese-American merger subtheme was purely there so the crew could swear in some form, without being "whacked" (as we say in the ghettos of Cornwall) by the censors.

They live a gritty lifestyle those BDH, and it's only natural that their language reflect that. I know! Let's get 'em to swear in a foreign language! We don't have any alien languages available cos there are no aliens so what to do?...

Forgive my cynicism but that was probably where the whole integration thing started; for reasons of practicality.

Here's a thought though... Perhaps in that society, 500 years from now, with new curses introduced, the impact of the old curse words will be greatly diminished. Someone might say "Oh, F****ing, B*****ding balls of Q***ming Yi***********ne!" and to a Firefly-ite that's the equivalent of "Oh flipping fiddlesticks! Holy moly that's inconvenient!"

The most horrific words of today would become quite comically mild in that situation I think.

I'm going to put my money on Jayne because he's so crude anyway. Therefore, he sticks in my mind as the first one to swear in the movie or in a revised series.

Some memorable Jayne being crude moments for me are Jayne commenting on Kaylee getting all lubed up over Simon and Mal removing Jayne from the table in the pilot not aired on TV as the pilot. The other memorable Jayne moment that I remember is the comment he made to River about having man parts even though Jayne is a girl's name.

I would like to hear Mr. Tudyk have to say something in Chinese that's really long and complicated and give up in the middle and say "Fuck it", and it stay in the movie. Cause that would be both funny, and an in joke for the Browncoats. In the gag reel, when he curses or real, it sounds like Darrin McGavin in A Christmas Story. Who knows, really. I can just see somthing happening to Serenity...a planet looms in the horizon...rushing up to meet out heroes, and Wash in the pilot's chair..."Oh Shit!"
I still contend that there will be cursing in english that they couldn't get away with on the show.
