You know you've argued this with your fellow geeks and nerds during those Saturday nights where the weather's cold and the blood wine's body temperature!

It's the topic that's started more geek-on-nerd riots than "Kirk vs. Picard: Who's the Sexiest Mofo to Ever Wear a Starfleet Command Tunic?" or "Which Petite Killer Gynoid Would You Take Home to Mother: Sharon "Boomer" Valerii/Athena or Cameron Phillips?"

Yes...it's "Who's the Ultimate Bad-ass Smuggler: Han Solo vs. Malcolm Reynolds?" debate, brought to you by the gang from Geeks vs. Nerds!

For their season finale. Taped at HalCon, the ladies and gents of GvN turn to the convention goers to help answer the burning question of just who's the better man when it comes to breaking the law, wooing the ladies and sneaking illegal go se past the noses of govt. noobs

Take a listen and I think you'll find the debate all kinds of satisfying

Mal is the man. Han, while no doubt great, couldn't beat Mal, no way.
At least, not without Chewie or Luke to help him.

Mal has better diction. Hands down.

Who needs a Wookie when you've got Zoe? Or Jayne for that matter?

I dunno.

Both their plans seem to go wrong at the same rate and intensity (as often and as badly). Han however is more practised at getting himself out of his messes (for most of his career, he only had a one-Wookiee crew to rely on).

They're both preternaturally good shots.

Han is clearly a better pilot than Mal (though not necessarily better than Wash --Mal doesn't have to be a good flier).

Similarly, Han is a better mechanic than Mal; he's stripped down and rebuilt the Falcon with his own hands.

Han actually seems to be a bit better with people than Mal is; he's not as crotchety as Mal gets (at least, not without a good individual reason). He also manages to be more polite to Jabba than Mal is to Badger (though that might just be because Jabba's a bigger threat than Badger will ever be).

OTOH, Han has a zero-tolerance policy toward slavery and forced/indentured service --whenever slavers set foot on the Falcon, they end up either killed or disarmed and placed at the mercy of their former property. Whether this is a flaw (he'd lose out on some of the transport jobs Mal would take) or a strength (Han has a line that he won't cross, no matter how broke he is) is a whole other debate.

Onscreen observation manifests Mal as a better kisser.

Our Man Mal certainly had more opportunity for making it with the ladies, since he snark-flirts with Inara, goes the whole 9 yards with Nandi and develops arguable UST with YoSaffBrig.

I would personally give Mal the edge in that Serenity is a mid-bulk cargo transporter, so he can run larger amounts of cargo or a greater variety than Han can with the Falcon.
