You know, at THIS gorram point I'm really not even interested anymore.
Go ahead, George. Tell us you don't know how to get something done while everyone else is.

For ME, Star Wars begins & ends with Mark Hamill.
Some of the novels & comics are cool as well.
You can flush those prequels IMO.
AND the freakin' second Ewok movie.

Hells, I'd sooner buy a DVD of the SW Christmas Special than ever pay a dime or waste my time on any new SW stuff ever again.

Now George, DO SOMETHING NEW!!!
Or has $$$$$ corrupted your creativity?????

This. The man obviously hasn't been paying attention to what's going on outside the Ivory Tower.

For me, it's more about the likes of Wedge Antilles, which is part of what is driving me away from the franchise.

See, growing up (at a time when the OT was already long-finished, and my Star Wars fix had to come from novels, comics, and the RPG), I was always conscious of the fact that the Jedi were gone. All the original Jedi survivors (Yoda, Ben, Empatojayos Brand, Ood Bnar, Darrin Arkanian, Vima-Da-Boda) were in hiding, the Dark Jedi (Jerec, Tremayne, Brandle, Sedriss) were remaining behind the scenes, Luke was only half-trained, and other Force-Sensitives were going about their lives in blissful ignorance.

For me, Star Wars has always been about the Rebel Alliance versus the Empire (and the New Republic, trying not to become the Empire). A rag-tag band of desperate humans, droids, and aliens; out-equipped, outgunned, and outmanned at every turn, fighting with nothing more than courage and hope against a seemingly insurmountable Empire.

Then the Prequels came along and Star Wars became "All Jedi/Sith, All The Time!"

(Which is why I love the Republic Commando novels; it's the only prequel-era stuff that feels like my Star Wars.)

Forget about content for a minute... If Lucas says it can't be done, technically speaking, IT CAN'T BE DONE.

Honestly, I don't think it's an overstatement to say that no other person has had an impact on the technical side of the filmmaking industry comparable to GL. Sound? Sight? Digital technology? Computer animation? Live motion capture? GL and his "empire" have innovated them all. Make no mistake: without Lucas, there would be no FIREFLY, no BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, no Pixar Studios, no JURASSIC PARK...

It's very easy to say that similar shows are being done (or have been done) on a shoestring budget, but that is a false assumption. In terms of visual effects, something like FIREFLY or BSG (the two shows that I can think of that come closest to the visual texture of the world of Star Wars) are shadows by comparison. Both are very compelling worlds, visually speaking, but they are built on smoke and mirrors. This is not a criticism--Joss is a master of both getting the best bang for his buck and of use of the "implied scene" to make is THINK we're seeing more than we really are (and that's a lot of what makes him brilliant and he knows it... has even admitted it)--but nothing on TV comes CLOSE to the visual texture and ambition of Star Wars.

Except, y'know, Star Wars.

An earliest post (possibily the original) said that GL should "do" something. He IS--and has been for the past two and a half years. The Clone Wars animated series continues to innovate in terms of technology and the majority of the episodes are 22-minute movies (Without touching on content too much, it's amazing to see the amount of plot and character development that GL and Co are able to cram into 22 minutes).

If Lucas were planning to do a live action show comparable to, say, FIREFLY or BSG, it would probably be fair to say that he's dragging his heels. But I'm sure what he has in mind is something fare more visually intricate and, as he did with the prequels, he will wait until the technology that he needs exists--even if he has to invent it himself.
