That's totally understandable.
But Trek pioneered the double-nacelle thing.

The original Viper is my personal favourite.

Is it just me, or do spaceships really suck these days? Abram's Enterprise was totally lacking in finesse, the Lost In Space movie's Jupiter 2 made me gag, and Lucas' ships in eps 1, 2 & 3 looked like idiotic toys IMO.
Avatar had some really cool stuff, but other than that, spaceships not Firefly-related have been an epic fail.
What's wit dat?

Actually, I really liked the Jupiter 2 (the outside hull, at least. The actual sets didn't really do anything for me). And I've developed a passionate love of the LAAT/i ("Lartie") troop shuttles from the Clone Wars.

For me:

1. The Andromeda Ascendant (Glorious Heritage class)
2. The Whitestar
3. The Jupiter 2
4. The Enterprise-E (Sovereign-class)
5. The Titan (Luna-class)
6. The Aventine (Vesta-class)
7. The Orion (actually the comatose Omega Supreme: http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Omega_Supreme_%28Animated%29 )
8. The SDF-3 (yes, SDF-3: the SDF-1 was a rebuild by amateurs, and the SDF-2 was a decoy that never left the ground, but the SDF-3 was built using actual Zentraedi tech, as the first dual-race starship, designed to accomodate both Zentraedi and humans.)
9. The Millennium Falcon (Heavily-modified YT-1300)
10. The Archangel (from Gundam Seed)

Much as I hate to admit it, if we're going by "Awesome," Serenity just doesn't rate --by design, she's a workhorse. A beautiful one, it's true, but she doesn't really knock my socks off as a ship (now, if we were going by comfort level).

I think its a marketing thing. Since Star Wars, studios (especially in the case of space epics) always seem to have the kiddies in mind whenever they venture into spaceships and/or superheros (and I don't mean that they think of how much fun they'll have at the movies).

BTW solid list.

Love The Phoenix from BOTP especially when it turned into the Firebird.
