Eh, just seems like trolling to me. I don't even go to that forum, but every now and then I see someone here link to a Firefly thread on that very board.

The Yankee guy who thinks sci-fi should be thoughtfully plodding and philosophical and who hates any anti-government message particularly stands out in the mind. I've definitely seen them at it before.

Lots of fan hate just because in their view some people like a series "too much." Betcha they wouldn't decry that behaviour in their own fan circles.

I notice these threads seem to backfire on them a lot though. You'd think the original poster's actual intentions were "make it look good" instead of his real intentions, "it sucks, agree with me and let's talk about why it sucks."

What a funny place, and I mean funny ha ha. Some good comments.

Some Trek BBSers I have always found to be open minded. Some.

This is why I rarely stray from the TrekLit board. Lot of fellow Browncoats 'round that area.

Shows take a while to get hooked if they are at all serial. Very few shows nab you on the first ep anyway

That's what a ship is, you know - it's not just a keel and a hull and a deck and sails, that's what a ship needs.

Trekies are pansies. While they are pondering the Prime Directive, Browncoats will just shoot em, and ditch them over Serenity's ramp!

Let them have their rants. Firefly will always be special to me and so long as my DVDs and player hold out, I'll be happy.
It's been my experience that people that bemoan Firefly can't really think for themselves in everyday life, which is a large part of the appeal for me in Firefly. You're allowed to think for yourself. The show doesn't force viewpoints upon you. The lines are blurred to a large extent. In Bushwacked, the purple belly lets the crew go because Mal saved his life. In Ariel, the purple belly screws Jayne over for money. Real people, real things, made-up 'verse.
Watch what you're gonna watch, just don't knock my show because you don't enjoy it.

Great point which most people don't get.
First FF ep I saw I was hooked, end of Ariel, I said WOAhhh, what did I miss, what have I missed? Same for Pilot Serenity, it would have hooked me as well. Train Job, maybe so. Several other eps too.

Star Trek? Don't think so. Even my fave Ep, Yesterday's Enterprise from STNG requires background. Can't think of any single ep from the first 2 series that grabs me on it's own. By the time ST:Voyager came along, difficult to stand apart from all the other ST.

Dark Angel Pilot grabbed me, but that's no Trek.

Six Million Dollar Man Pilot did it, also.
