I've just been spoiled for Serenity by a thread on this site and I'm absolutely devestated! Not to be overdramatic but I am really quite upset as I prefer to know as little as possible about movies before I see them and Serenity is the most excited about a movie I've ever been in my life.

Of course I understand there is a risk when surfing a website about the movie and I knew that there was going to be a time when I'd have to leave this site to avoid spoilers but I didn't realise that it would be this long from the movie.

I know that this site is always more relaxed than the OB and so if it's a problem for the people on this site then that's fine. But if people could mark all spoilers for just a little bit longer (including stuff from the comicon trailer) I'd really appreciate it.

But like I said this is just a suggestion and if people would rather talk more freely that's fine and I do understand.

Don't feel too devestated, what's "known" about Serenity this early is probably misinformation anyway.

In my experience the next months will bring more and more detailed spoilers...
when the movie has finished shooting then a lot of crew (who would be afraid of being fired if they gave out info while they were working on set) will not hesitate to sell shooting scripts, and tell all kinds of spoilery details.

Personally I wish to remain COMPLETELY unspoiled...
I beg Harken, Please please please
can you creat a spoiler section and move all spoiler threads into it?
Many people here will probably wish to read the scripts and know everything about the movie before it is released,
but an equal number of us really would like to be surprised (watching the movie in the way Joss would like to present it)

I personally consider this even more important than keeping political discussions in the RealWorld section...
or keeping the trolls isolated in their own area

Please?
It would mean a lot to me!

It is easy to disbelieve...
the problem occures when you are finally sitting in the theater April 22nd, 2005
and you've heard over and over again that so and so will die (Tara Anya Fred whoever), and you decided to disbelieve...
but when he/she is offed and you feel 'oh, I guess the spoiler was right' instead of feeling surprise...

I know from Buffy & Angel that Joss will set up amazing surprises, and all you have to do is hear a little about it ahead of time and all your feelings of awed surprise are destroyed...
You knew it would happen
it happened
all feelings of stunned shock are lost

and Joss deserves to be seen with NO expectation
because he will amaze you if he is given half a chance.

Do people who find that their suspension of disbelief is disturbed by spoilers only watch Firefly once?

That's not really fair. I don't mind knowing what's happened when I watch something or the second time, but I also like surprises.

see that's what I'm saying...spoilers take away the surprise that you get the first time a story is told.
That doesn't mean you don't watch the show (or read the story) again and again and again...
You get different things out of each viewing/reading
but you only have the possibility of the surprise once

Knowing what will happen in a film can also have an impact on your perception of it every time you see it again. This isn't really spoilery unless you don't want to know a thing about Spiderman2, but it speaks to the idea of your first impression lasting:

Select to view spoiler:

When we were in the theater watching Spiderman2 and all those people were carrying him through the train car my boyfriend leaned over and whispered, "the Passion of the Spiderman." It was funny, but when I went to see the movie again I couldn't take that part seriously because I kept thinking of the joke.

Some people like to predict what's going to happen in the story. I know people who were proud that they figured out the surprise in The Sixth Sense. Those would be the people who don't care about spoilers. But I want my movies like my roller coasters. It's a lot more fun if I don't know what's around the corner. I'll suspend my disbelief any day.
