Ok, I'll admit...it was better than I thought it would be, but I think knowing a little about the magical plot made it easier for me to not care where it went, too.

Pixar did GREAT with the scenery...It honestly reminded me that I don't belong here as I am of Celtic ancestry, and made me a little sad that I don't own a time machine. (We HAD to see 3-d this time, and aside from cute intro clips that used it, I didn't really even NOTICE the 3-d for the entire movie...)They also did well to represent all the dna that makes up the region (English, Spanish, Nordic, and... Redhead ) But went a wee bit overboard on "men are drinking fighting slobs that are good fer nothin'" and I'm sure they were worse in the 14th Century, but it's not helpin the kids of this century... Well, there's no sugar-coatin the truth in this one... I'll put my well-worn book O' morals down now...there...

Surprisingly, it was fairly funny with plenty of physical humor to aid the storyline and some touching parts as well,so the kids were giggle boxes through it, and a couple started sobbing at the part where she couldn't get to her mom, but for the most part- I didn't hear a peep and they were totally focused on the movie.
There weren't any after-credit goodies, or so the clean-up guy said...
I think I would be interested in a movie that catches up with her in a few years to see what would become of THAT, heh...

Both of us give it an A.

I'm sure Riona will be all over this one like bangers on mash

Yuppers, I saw it with my cousins on Sat. It was cute and fun. I do know what you mean about how men were portrayed as goodfornothings who just drink and fight, but I think they did that to give the audience something to laugh at and make fun of while the main charactors were figuring out what to do to fix her mistake.
It was a fun movie to watch.

I have Kathy Bates on speed dial, mwa ha ha ha (in exaggeratedly evil voice)

SHINYGOODGUY

Hey there guys,

I saw it Opening night and the place was packed with kids and their parents, I took my nieces with their mom and her BFF. All of us were dying to see it and the movie didn't disappoint. It was fun, a little emotional and well paced. The kids in the theatre were a bunch of "giggleboxes" as you rightfully said, but the adults had fun too.

The show we caught was in 2D (mainly because of the time it showed, my niece had to work early the next day) but the cinematography was excellent and gave a very real feel to the landscape and scenery. The casting was spot on. All the actors played their roles perfectly especially the 3 leads - Kelly MacDonald, Billy Connors and Emma Thompson. I agree that the men in the movie, the dad being the slight exception, were all portrayed as silly oafs, but I believe that was purely for comic affect.

For the most part it was meant as a lesson in "be careful what you wish for," but it was also showing the value of listening for both kids and parents. My niece and her 2 daughters, 15 and 8, hugged at the end (long story), but overall they had a ball at the movies. It was better than some live-action movies of late. This was definitely a female empowerment movie with great laughs, a decent story and finally no handsome prince comes along to save the day, a departure for Disney. All in all, Pretty Cool.

By the way, we stood in our seats for several minutes at the end (as the crowd filed out of the theatre) and at the end of the credits there was a bonus scene - the witches bird returns to the castle and has the guard with half a mustache sign for a package. It was kinda cute. BTW 2 - the 3 little triplets almost steal the movie. Bravo Pixar!!!
