I was reading the Sunday evening transcripts from DragonCon Q&A, while re-watching the Firefly DVD, and Nathan and Jewel bring up a very good point.

There’s been a whole lot of discussion about optioning the rights for the TV show versus movie, video games, trading cards, comic books, novels, but it seems everyone has overlooked an much bigger issue. Who owns the rights for the Firefly theme park ride? Universal, the studio behind the film, just so happens to own a little theme park full of movie based rides, so I reckon getting a ride made wouldn’t be completely out of the question.

We now know that the BDM needs to make over $40 million to get a sequel, but the bigger question is how much money does money does it need to make in order to get a ride at Universal Studios?

Imagine if you will, assuming of course you not lacking in imagination, a year of two from now, the cast, crew, and a sea of browncoats, kick off the first day of shooting the SBIS (sudden but inevitable sequel) by christening the Firefly ride. The ride would start off with Kaylee saying “All aboard.” Then some thrilling heroics would ensue. And the ride ends with naked Mal politely saying “Now get the hell off my ship.”

--------------------
Forget about Star Wars III : Return of the Bratty Anakin, go see Serenity (movie based on the TV show Firefly) instead. In theatres April 22th, 2005. Firefly DVD: 5 star rating and over 1,100 reviews at Amazon.

You can't the sky away from me...

Yeah, Nathan actually mentioned that he would love to see a Serenity Roller coaster at one of the panels. Though I think his discription of the events that might take place on the ride were a bit spoilery for the film, I sounded like a great idea. I enjoyed Jewel laughing as he discribed Jayne on the back of the ride....."B*tch, b*tch b*tch." as if Adam complained a lot during the relevent scene. Must have been the Sunday panel after Adam left 'cause I don't recall his reaction.

Oh I LOVE this idea! I want to be chased by Reevers, and escape w/a crazy Ivan...
and fly into a glacial cave
where they bomb and threaten to bury us...

Maybe we can lower ourselves over a moving train...
There is a lot of excitement
not to mention heards of cattle and horses...
and strange villages where they'll threaten to burn us at the stake!

I'm thinking the ride idea is totally cool, and doable

Or "that went well" as we're filing out. ;)

Actually though, I don't see how it'd be feasable. I mean, what could be the "thrilling heroics?" It'd have to be something where the audience wouldn't have to move from their seats or interact.

A Reaver attack? Crime? Not exactly spectator sports.

Escaping from an Alliance patrol? Maybe, but there'd have to be some silliness like putting an entire audience-worth of space down in front of the bridge, or installing a huge screen in the cargo hold (now rigged up with seats for Mal's "passenger tour" idea) so we could see what was happening.

Or maybe just a "Firefly 'verse" ride with a Serenity-related cameo/show. . .

Sign on with Blue Sun tours to take a spin around the core planets. At a critical point, Mal & crew (seen on screen, 'cause we don't want no overactin' look-alikes) burst in and hijack the shuttle to escape from a blue-handed patrol.

As Wash frantically plies the shuttle's controls (with much pneumatic shaking and wobbling of the ride), the crew hangs on and trades recriminations (JAYNE: I'd just like to say for the record this one ain't my fault. ZOE: No one's blaming you, Jayne. MAL: Right. ZOE: . . . It's the Captain's fault. MAL: Ri-wha?) as we race for where Serenity is parked.

The docking happens, the Serenity crew leaves, and the usual pilot (a jumpy rookie [think Bendis or Tracy]) takes over and pilots us through a Reaver attack (inadvertently reproducing Wash's Crazy Ivan) back to the hangar, where we disembark.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

It was the Sunday panel, and Adam was gone, on his way to South Africa. I would have loved to have seen his reaction to Nathan's comment about Jayne.

I think a Firefly ride, the way Nathan & Jewel described it would be excellent. I have never been to Universal Studios, but you can bet your last ruttin' Alliance dollar that I would make a trip just to have an excuse to ride the Firefly/Serenity ride.
