Round theze here parts, Chicago area, we lacked decent rock radio for most uv the 80z and 90z. There wuz WLUP and WMET in the late 70z, early 80z competing to be the hardest heaviest rock & metal, but az soon az WMET burnt out, WLUP (The Loop) turned the volume way down. We were literally embalmed in a classic rock mosseleum from then on. I finally gave up on The Loop wen they came out with 'it duznt hav to be old to be a classic' catch fraze folowed by 'herez Bruce Hornsby and the Range'. CLICK.

Occasionally a hot new metal station woud flare up breifly, quickly drowning in endless commercialz, so we'd get to hear sum uv wut we'd bin missing for several yirz.

This iz a period that spawned sum uv my fave bandz. QueensRyche, Metal Church, Savatage, Cinderella. Many otherz with at least 1 great song.

Herez a sample frum Edge of Thorns by Savatage. In my opinion, the best album from the 90z.

I'm fairly sure therez a bunch more stuff from bandz I never heard uv from that period.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I've never been that much of a heavy metal fan, although there are a select few songs from those groups that are pretty good.

In my opinion, the best era for rock was 1965-1975. That's when we saw a lot of American groups' response to the British invasion, British groups disbanding and reforming in some great combinations, plus independent singer/songwriters breaking the hold that Tin Pan Alley had had on the music publishing industry.

Just a few of my favorites from that ere were The Band, The Doors, Cream, Led Zeppelin, Emerson Lake & Palmer, Electric Light Orchestra, King Crimson, Jethro Tull, etc.

I've always found it difficult to find a station with an acceptable playlist, and even those that have a lot that I like play the HELL out of those songs, in fact you'll hear the same song several times a day, and usually at the same time of day. With nearly 60 years of rock music you'd think they could mix it up a bit more.

I gess the problem wuznt just around here.

The Loop and WCKG seemed to be competing for dullness for a wile in the 80z and 90z. They still played Zeplin, but less uv the harder tracks and a progressively narrower selection uv everything else.

Maybe worse, The Loop started playing sum Metallica, giving the general impression that they were the only metal band good enuf to be on the radio.

I like alot uv Metallica'z stuff, especially the Master uv Puppets album, but they are relatively monotonous compared to many other bandz.

Then therez 80z pop. You just never hear any uv it on the radio anymore. Franky Goes to Hollywood, Tearz for Fearz, The Go Goz, etc... lots uv 1 hit wunderz.
