Ok, fess up. We all love it. But, how many of y'all have taken your Firefly fandom that extra step over to your culinary realm? Who here has noticed themselves eating more Chinese food....just because ? ( and no, I'm NOT talking about any 'good dogs' cuisine.)

Also, per 'Serenity', when the crew and passengers are sitting at the table, who has noticed what utinsils are being used, and by whom? I count 2 using 'sticks, the others using forks and such. Which do YOU use ? Hmmmmm?

When I eat Chinese, I use chopsticks -- a red and black pair I picked up at Cost Plus World Market. But I don't eat Chinese any more than I used to before Firefly.

Course, when I eat protein, I use a knife and fork like any civilized person...

red and black pair, eh? Is there any meaning to the diff colors ? I have always just used the basic chopsticks given out at the restaurants.

There probably is some significance. I know the Chinese brides wear red bridal gowns, and I think they associate red with life or luck? They wear white to funerals (as seen in Heart of Gold), and associate that color with death, so maybe black is the color of life to the Chinese? My sticks are mostly black with red decoration, so maybe they are lucky life-giving utensils.

Darn! I was hoping we could talk dog recipies, because my dog gets on my nerves on a daily basis. Anyone with a recipe for Twice Cooked Belgian Shephard or a pupu platter with fried toes and tails?

I remember once in a Malaysian country, I ate pidgeon, which I didn't realize 'til I saw this guy hand feeding a bunch of them right next to the "resturaunt" which was one of those street vendors.I remember looking at the "chicken" on my plate and thinking that it was rather small.
EEWW! :)

Back to the subject...
I think part of the reason I liked Firefly was that it had the oriental element, which was something I liked beforehand. I love chinese food and I'm pretty handy with a wok. I love sesame chicken! I can make some really tasty crab and cream cheese fried wontons! YUM!

I plan to make bao, wontons, and miso next time WhiteKnight comes to visit (thanks also to Good Eats) and I plan to make some version of Ice Planet for a meet or the premier. Some kind of baked meringue, probably.

Bao sounds really good.

recipe at http://chinesefood.about.com/library/blrecipe023.htm

I can see why Wash was amazed when YoSafBridge made it though, very time-consuming.

I'm working on a Blakes7/Firefly crossover that opens with Vila watching Avon trying to figure out a way to eat bacon and eggs with chopsticks.

We've always been oriental food fans (chinese, japanese, thai, vietnamese <-- that is my absolute favorite one!), but I'll admit, I deliberately went to a big Oriental market recently, just because of Firefly...looking for clothes and accessories, snacks to take to Dragon*Con and other really cool things to nosh and drink. It was so much fun!

I really got hooked on some stuff that comes in a plastic bag in the produce section..."hot pickled mustard"...it's some mixture of greens and banana peppers that has been sitting in mass quantities of vinegar and chili sauce...surprisingly not really hot, but tangy...mmmmmmm....it's become a new "comfort food"!

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I love Chinese food, Japanese food, and Thai. Whenever I eat them I use chopsticks. My wife and I bought a full set of plates, chopsticks, and cups for when I cook Asian at home.

I would not say that I eat it more now than I did before Firefly.

ive got some of those little bowls like you get in 'proper' chinese restaurants and i love to use them with chopsticks when doing chinese. a load of different courses, big load of rice and lots of little bowls of different stuff. yum :)

but again, firefly hasn't made me do this more, but working near a supermarket with a good line of chinese ready meals has. ooooh. same supermarket i bought firefly from. maybe there is more than coincidence here...
