Just wondering if there has been a campaign to try and get Netflix to take on Firefly and if not can we do something about that?

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I'm not sure if there was an official (or un-official) campaign directed to Netflix about it, but I do remember it being mentioned around the time the new Arrested Development episodes were coming out. However, Ted Sarandos, chief content guru at Netflix actually said that he thought Firefly's fandom was smaller, even if more intense, than when it was on the air. I think that's BS of course, since we know that many, many people have discovered the show years after it was canceled, and I doubt any original fans have turned away from it.

Even if they were interested, there's the whole issue of no one really being available.

Its just I read an article today that Netflix is setting aside 3 Billion dollars for new exclusive content in 2014 along with another 3 Bn to expand their existing content.

I think it might be worth trying. What do you guys think. Of course there's the issue of the actors been available but I get the feeling that most if not all of them would love to be involved if it was going to be done.

This was the best reply out of all those in the article:

"I also think that Netflix is wrong. I think more than 90% of the fans who followed the show are still fans, and there are many of us who did not watch it real time. Because of wrong advertising, or other reasons. I was too young when it aired, and also lived in another country. Nowadays, with internet spreading shows like Firefly everywhere, much more people can find it (just like I did). Also another thing that could help the show to revive is Castle. There are many Castle fans, and when they find out that the main actor had a show before, they probably check it out, and if someone started to watch Firefly, why stop? That is my opinion. With the right advertising Firefly's fanbase would grow bigger than it was in 2002. Actors/actresses who played in it still love it, Joss Whedon would definitely come back. Firefly was his child and Fox took it away from him."

Firefly and Serenity have been exposed to a whole new fan base and Netflix has it all wrong. The perfect example is my sister, who is a BIG Castle fan, she never heard of Firefly. The moment I told her who it's main character was (Nathan Fillion) she became excited and wanted to know what the show was about and if they had any girls in it (she's big on female characters). I told her she would love Zoe. She asked me why and I told her just to watch and see. She's going to watch because of Nathan. Period!!!

Are you listening Mr. Sarandos?

My feeling is that we, us Browncoats across the country and around the world, should dash off an e-mail to Netflix asking them to bring back Firefly.

We could ask that they try a miniseries, 6-10 episodes, just as a feeler. If they get a good response - cha-ching! If not, well DVD sales would be through the roof. I think it's worth a shot. Netflix will be swamped with e-mail requests, then they'll see that our numbers are stronger than ever.

I'm a Netflix customer, so I'm going to start. Pass the word.

Lest we forget - remember what happened when we all decided to watch Dr. Horrible? We shut it down, remember?

One of the main arguments for a Firefly revival on Netflix (or anywhere) is that the TV landscape has changed dramatically in the last twelve years. There have been quite a few shows in recent years renewed even though their average ratings were well below what Firefly got in 2002. Most shows on The CW would kill for the ratings Firefly got.

With DVRs, Hulu, Netflix, AmazonPrime, and multiple online venues, there has to be a place for Firefly somewhere. The Science Channel would be another network to target.

Yes, I know it would be difficult to arrange the availability of a majority of the actors at one time, but Arrested Development managed by having only a few of them in each episode. Done the right way, a new batch of Firefly episodes could easily top the quality of the AD revival, of which I was completely disappointed.

My fellow browncoats... Firefly and Serenity, as well as the documentary, are both on Netflix and have been for quite some time. At least since last October when I first signed up. Sorry to burst ya'lls campaign concept. I've recommended the series to all my friends with Netflix.

I'm sure all of us are well aware that Firefly has been on Netflix for years. The campaign we are talking about is for NEW episodes.

True, with the success of such shows as House of Cards and Orange is the New Black, Netflix has managed, once again, to change the landscape of network TV.

I, for one, believe that the continuing story of Firefly, with Joss & Co at the helm, would capture a whole new audience in addition to that of the true blue, die-hard Browncoats. Netflix must be made aware of our numbers, because in those numbers - we are mighty. We must make Reed Hastings and Ted Sarandos realize that, on a worldwide basis, it would behoove them to pursue the Firefly project increase their overall market share within the industry.
After all, they are business men.

Apparently Netflix has considered this and found the demographics wanting. :(

Very sad but truly not unexpected.

Not to be a downer, because I'm still around and still wanting more.
