Okay. I forgot to ask this question in the other thread. I've never watched Farscape before and I'll be watching the mini-series tonight. Are there any relevant bits of information that I absolutely MUST know? I've read that the mini-series takes place immediately following the cliffhanger at the end of the last episode so I'm a teensy bit worried that I'll be confused as all get out - but I have faith that the creators took this into account when they wrote the mini-series so I'm not looking for a re-cap of the finale. I guess I'm more just looking for a link to descriptions of the main characters (who's the captain, where's everyone from, who's interested in who, that sort of thing). Something that hopefully won't take more than a minute or two for the Scapers out there.

There are three kinds of people: fighters, lovers, and screamers.

Well, the only human in the show is John Crichton (an astronaut, from Earth, who got sucked through a wormhole and ended up on this ship, this living ship. . .) --sorry, slipped into opening narration mode for a second.

His lover is Aeryn Sun, a Sebacean (looks human, but is cold-blooded, and has various other physiological differences). She was pregnant when. . . what happened in the finale happened (you'll find out, but it won't be from me). Aeryn was once a Peacekeeper Officer (Peacekeepers kept the peace by killing and enslaving everyone around them. They're like spNazis), who was "contaminated" by spending time with our heroes.

The "captain" is Ka D'Argo, a Luxan (the big shaggy, loveable goofball). He gained that status through election, since they're not really a "crew" per se. D'Argo was sent up the river on charges of manslaughter (he was probably framed --we don't know for sure 'cause Luxans have "hyper-rage," in which they go berserker and slaughter anything that moves). The victim was his wife, a Sebacean woman who'd borne him a half-Luxan, half-Sebacean son called Jothee (now grown and estranged from his father). He also has his own ship, a little "muscle car" called Lo'la, and he owns possibly the coolest personal weapon in televised SF.

The little muppet with delusions of grandeur is Rygel the XVI (16th), Dominar of the Hynerian Empire, who knows all and could not be taken by surprise. . . until he was deposed in a coup led by his own brother. Don't let the muppet fool you; he can be surprisingly badass when the need arises. He's also the last remaining of Moya's "original" crew (the escaped prisoners).

The three-eyed old woman is Noranti (everyone just calls her "Granny"). She's a herbalist, who functions as the group's medic and spiritual leader now that Zhaan is gone.

The blue girl with the hair is Chiana, a. . . blue girl with hair. Anyone? She's the token good-time-girl of the group, and D'Argo's off-again/on-again girlfriend (let's just say we all hope he's using protection *nudgenudge*). She's recently developed the ability to see the future, but it made her temporarily blind. The blindness lasted longer and longer, and as of the finale, we think it's permanent.

There's another blue girl who may or may not put in an appearance due to being dead (another of the originals, she may turn up in flashbacks). She's Pa'u Zotoh Zhaan, a tenth-level Delvian Pa'u priestess. Think of her as a melding of Book and Inara.

There's also Stark, the Banek ex-slave with a metal plate on his face. The Banek are in touch with the Beyond, and Stark can "sing people over," easing their death and guaranteeing entry into Paradise. He's also an utter raving loon (like River and/ow Wash after a few dosen Pixie Stix. Each).

Hopefully Scorpius will show up. He's a half-Sebacean, half-Scarran badass who's on perpetual life support (Sebaceans are cold-blooded, Scarrans are hot-blooded). He has cooling rods in his skull that occasionally have to be swapped out or he'll combust. He was the bad guy throughout most of the series, until being defeated, forced into an alliance (the only way left to serve his agenda), and finding love. He's now restored to (apparently) command of the Peacekeepers, along with:

Sikozu, an artificial being (created in the likeness of some species that I can't remember). She and others like her were created to fight the Scarrans (who'd enslaved her creators), and she's teamed up with Scorpius because the PKs are the lesser evil. Also because they're in love (in a sick, tie-me-down-and-hurt-me kinda way).

The pilot is Pilot, my favourite character (which is probably why he gets so little screen time). He's a symbiote, wired into Moya's neural nets to serve as liason between her and her passengers. The ever-beautiful Moya, of course, is the ship herself. A bio-mechanical Leviathan, formerly used as a prison transport. She orchestrated the prison break (that Crichton stumbled into) because she and Pilot want to be explorers, to go where no Leviathan has gone before. She has no weapons aside from a plethora of DRD repair droids, but can "Starburst" to anywhere in the galaxy instantaneously (she just can't always see where she's going until they arrive). She was also used as a genetics experiment by the PKs, and eventually gave birth to Talyn, a hybrid Leviathan gunship, who lived a short, violent, and ultimately heroic life, and helped to redeem:

Captain Bialar Crais, the series' first villain. His brother was killed accidentally by Crichton, and Crais went kinda obsessive in the blood feud before being fired by Scorpius. After being fired, he stole/kidnapped/coerced Talyn, and eventually redeemed himself. He and Talyn died together, sacrificing themselves to free Crichton from Scorpius' Command Carrier.

All of this is moot to me, however, because THE PEACEKEEPER WAR IS NOT AIRING IN CANADA!!!!

Gorram ruttin' Canadian TV not having enough pull. With luck we'll get it sometime next year.

With luck.

Wow! Thanks so very much Cybersnark! That's exactly the information I was looking for (Although I guess I underestimated the time involvement).

I'm ready!!!

Cybersnark,

WOW! That was a really fun read. I'm moderately conversant in Farscape, so that filled in some episodes I missed. Thanks.

I'm hoping that my VCR is doing what it's supposed to do and taping the mini for me while I'm stuck at school!

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I watched the mini series, and was rather impressed.

I never really got into the series while it aired, but after seeing the PK Wars I may have to go and pick up the 1st season and give it another chance.

Thanks for the recap Cybersnark...you did a great job.
And I, or other of your fellow browncoats will be happy to tape the show for you!

I thought they did a brilliant job of their own under-a-minute recap at the beginning of The Peacekeper War, and they cover a lot of exposition throughout the show without in anyway slowing down the pace or deluting the humor.

I really admire how Farscape is made, it is so light and fun (why has Enterprise become so colorless, slow and somber? Oh well...maybe Brent Spiner will help).

I am definitely a new Scaper (but I did manage to watch almost all of the episodes as Sci-fi reran them over the last 2 weeks so I was well prepared)!

I'm looking forward to part two tonight! Yay!

That's
Chiana's race. Thank you, it's been bugging me.

And I'm confident it'll come to Space eventually (their continuous airing of the series, the actor interviews and occasional marathons seem to indicate there're Scapers aplenty there). It's just a matter of broadcast rights.

At the moment, it's (I believe) a Sci-Fi exclusive, which means that no one else can air it. Even if they were allowing simulcasts, there's probably a fairly steep pricetag --one that Space, with its "parents' basement" budget, can't/couldn't meet.

I'm guessing it'll turn out like Battlestar Galactica, which Space has aired at least three times now. It'll just take a while to get here. I can be patient.

Until then, I note that http://www.farscapefantasy.com/videos is finally getting some new content, so I'll have fanvids to tide me over. (I'd also recommend this site for anyone wanting to see what they've been missing.)

No problem SabaceanBabe. I really enjoyed the PK Wars, though I was lost at some points. Had a friend of mine over that was a Scaper that filled me in over commercial breaks on anything I was missing.
