Ok, so if whatever they're burnin' could be burnt off (I think they use liquid oxygen tanks or something solid that oxidases fuel for that? ) in SPACE, that would mean we could get to the moon in less than two and a half MINUTES and Mars in about five and a half HOURS? I think we usually get to the moon in two or three days?

240,000 miles to moon/ average speed of sound is 344miles per second X6= 2064 divided by = 116.2 SECONDS?

and Mars is going to about 40,000,000 miles away from us in coming years, so

that's 19379.8 seconds divided by 3600 seconds per hour= 5.3 HOURS

Somebody tell me where I've gone wrong, it's too late for me and all the numbers have gone wobbledy....

Incorrect. Make that 344 meters per second, or about 761 miles per HOUR.

Ok 240,000 miles to the moon. 761 x 6= 4566 miles per hour= 52.6 hours

and 40,000,000 miles to the moon divided by 4566=

= 8760.4 or ONE YEAR?

Thanks, there's a reason I let her dad help with the math homework, we have a tendency to flip flop numbers in our heads...

It's not the speed that kills, it's the sudden stops.

Going NOWHERE kills as well. I swear to god, I wished I'd moved out of here a DECADE ago!!!

PS I really would like to go to the moon in two minutes or less. If someone out there could get right on that I'd appreciate it....

93 million miles from Earth to Sun, about 8 light minutes. Mars at 40M would be about 4 light minutes.

Speed of sound is under 800 miles per hour. 6x about 4,600 per hour.
4.6 million miles in 1,000 hours. 40 Million miles in about 9,000 hours, about 350 days, about a year.

Our best bet for space exploration is constant boost engines, not engines that burn out their available fuel as quickly as the supersonic jets that article was talking about. More than likely that will be either nuclear fission or fusion, and results on that type of propulsion is at least decades away.

Totally agree

Fathom the hypocrisy of a government that requires every citizen to prove they are insured... but not everyone must prove they are a citizen

You know that part of The Incredibles where the dad says "What are YOU waiting for??!"

and the kid on the bike says "I dunno, something...AMAZING...I guess"

and the dad says "Yeah, me too..."

I could use a "something amazing". Is it bad that I was jealous of the people in Russia when they had that meteorite land??

I'm not much for religion, but if any of you've got an "In" with a god could you have it send an earthquake or something new? I've done enough tornadoes, thanks... Talking donkey?

I've started re-watching GILMORE GIRLS.

Seriously, I'll take anything... You can even turn my water into... weak rum.

A plague of frogs even sounds pretty cool.
