Is Nathan Fillion going to be the next see-him-in-everything actor like Harrison Ford was after the original Star Wars? Seems to me like he can handle most anything, and Serenity sure will make him bankable enough.
What do y'all think?

Much as I'd like him to, there's already a Harrison Ford out there. I suspect he might move into the Patrick Stewart lane or possibly even the George Clooney lane.

They're still out there, too.
I didn't mean as a replacement, just a similarity.

But that one isn't getting any younger and if they should ever feel like doing Indiana Jones 5... well, I would know the right guy to replace Ford ,-)

Nat could always move into the enormous abyss created by Andrew 'Dice' Clay's absence from the cinematic scene.

That's right: Fillion could move into the Ford Fairlane lane...

It would be great to see him become insanely popular. He seems like a very genuine, down to earth type guy. If he were to become an A-list celebrity he might even change the Hollywood stereotype of actors from arrogant, and whiny(TOM CRUISE, cough) to mellow cool.

He's got a good voice, he's funny, he could move into musical theatre. That's right, the Nathan Lane Lane.

Believe it or not there's a lane near me called Nathan Lane.

Do you think we'd turn out to see him in a love story, or a movie about a convicted murderer? Or is he stuck in the hero/man of action trap (admittedly, not such a bad place to be, worked out well for Bruce Willis)?

Well, action heroes/anti-heroes have a lot more opportunity for work, and let's face it, Nat's got a flair for it.

As far as the other suggestions you made: Do you really wanna see Nathan in a chick flick? Maybe he could play Scott Peterson in the Lifetime treatment, hmmm? Frankly, I think Sean Maher fits the romance mold better; Nathan's a little too rugged to be loved for his looks alone: He needs to be cast as a wounded fighter to win the hearts of females. (NB: Unless some lady wants to attest that his role on AtS as the bedeviled preacher was as fetching as his portrayal of Mal Reynolds... I didn't think so. And even if you did still think he was sexy as Caleb, it was only because you remembered him as Mal. Admit it.)

Could Nathan be a star in Hollywood? Yeah, I think so. I'd have to say he's got the acting chops for it. As I've said before, his scene in "Saving Private Ryan" was one of the most believable and heartfelt of the movie. He's also got a great sense of comedic timing, a very expressive face and he brings a lot of honesty/believability to his roles.

Romantic lead? I'm not so sure. But he looks really natural with firearms, especially that low hip holster. If westerns ever make a strong comeback, he should be 'in like flynn'. I can definitely see him in the gamut of roles in an oater. Why not think of him as the next Clint Eastwood (on the deadly serious side) as well as the next Harrison Ford (on the more jocular side)?

I think he could take alot of work away from Kevin Costner, too...

Representatively,

zoid

P.S.
Considering the title of your thread is: "...will Nathan move into the Ford lane?", I think my cheesy pun ("Ford Fairlane lane") is the winner.

Ford Fairlane was a connection that could only be made by the most twisted of film-fan mentalities... I salute you.

And isn't that phrase supposed to be 'In like Flint'?

Coburn Fan ChrisIsAll questioned my usage, thus:
Quote:

...And isn't that phrase supposed to be 'In like Flint'?

While it's true that Our Man Flint was indeed 'In', I believe the original expression was 'in like Flynn', after the poem, "Casey at the Bat" in which Flynn was in, "a'hugging third" prior to Casey's at bat...

...So, I looked it up and everybody else seems to think it began as either a reference to FDR's buddy, Edward J. 'Boss' Flynn -- leader of the potent NYC Democratic machine -- or Errol Flynn, who was notorious for having an 'in' with the ladies of his era. (NB: In other words, I was wrong, even though I was right. Maybe I shouldn't have been so honest, here. That way you could've been wrong by your lonesome.)

The movie title, "In Like Flint", was a play on the phrase which originated in the early 40's. See also http://www.randomhouse.com/wotd/index.pperl?date=19970108 for example...

Linguistically,

zoid

So could a wooden post.

I can’t see Fillion in an Indiana Jones role; even though it seems like that would probably be a familiar Ford role for him. I’d like to see Indiana Jones turned into a sort of James Bond kind of series, though. Maybe Fillion could start that up for us, after his stint in Serenity and its sequels.

Also I prefer the phrase, ‘in like Finn.’ Admittedly it is a less well known phrase, but I’m trying to get it some exposure.

Speaking of Lifetime and Mr. Fillion, a few months back I happened to be flipping through the listings and caught Nathan in the act [puns, gotta love 'em!] on everyone's favorite female-oriented television channel.

Water's Edge, the film was called. The movie itself is typical of the sub-par faire offered up by Lifetime, but it was interesting to see our boy Nat in a different leading role.

Oh! And in keeping with the relative wackiness of this thread...if Nathan were to move to Norway, would it then become the fjord lane?

I could see it. He'd need a bit more weight, though, he's a little lanky for Jones right now.

Maybe he could lend some character to the next three Star Wars movies starting in ten years?

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I could easily seeing Nathan being a hit in Hollywood. He has charisma, he is funny, and he has the look. I think Serenity will be the role that puts his name in the minds of more directors and casting agents.

Of course I hope all our BDHs become big stars too. They certainly have talent in spades.

I agree w/ Zoid. Nathan would do great in westerns if they ever see a revival.
