Entertainment Weekly Issue #840 - September 16, 2005

On the cover is - SERENITY, Can a Cult TV Hit Become a Big-Screen Smash?

Inside is a nicley written article about the advertising campaign for our movie. It talks a bit about the advanced screenings, the internet, and yes, us Browncoats. They actually give props to us fans for helping keep the legacy of Firefly alive, in DVD, and all the support we are giving to Serenity. So go and check it out, I got a kick out of it.

"How's it sit? Pretty cunning."

I think last week's EW was a double issue. I don't think this one hits stands till next Friday...tho of course I hope I'm wrong!

So was this article part of the double issue, or is it the NEXT issue?

Double issue doesn't always mean that there is a week off. The giveaway is if you get two weeks worth of TV listings.

IIRC the last issue didn't have that, so the new one should be out. In my mailbox today or tomorrow.

"It's about how much freedom you can take away from somebody before they either fold or fight," Whedon says. "It's about the right to be wrong and the nature of human beings, that they need the freedom to be wrong. That they cannot be made to be better or perfect."--Joss Whedon on Serenity

Yeah, I got my copy this morning in my mail box at my office. Here at my college I am SPC Films Director, SPC=Student Programming Council, so I get a free one each week to puruse. Yeah, it is shiny.

Anyone know when it hits the shelves in stores? And what stores typically carry it? I have yet to be able to find any stores (Borders, Barnes&Noble, grocery stores, etc) that carry it. :(

Subscribers get their copies on Friday, so I would assume most stores would have copies today. B&N, Borders, even newsstands should have it. It's the page opposite their LOST trading cards.

We should get ours on Friday, but they don't always show. Like yesterday, the one issue I desperately want to see and it didn't show. I'll get it today, no doubt. But I have already seen it a the grocery store!

I gots mine today. Really good article. It's straight news, not good or bad, but interesting. I like honest journalism, no overly positive or overly negative reviews, just tell it like it is. More and more media is appearing, and all of it is looking damn good. We're not gonna get everyone to love this movie, but it'll be enough to keep us flying.
Of interest, a quote from Tim Minear: "I just hope he doesn't f--- it up," he deadpans. "I want to direct the next movie."

Suncoast Video usually has it, if there's one of those near you.

I finally got the EW magazine. It was a nice article. I'm glad that some of the major magazines are picking up on it. That'll help garner an audience hopefully.
