I haven't posted in over a year (an old timer from the early days of fff.net), but I wanted to say that I just made a new clickable banner for Serenity and posted it on my own website. I get between 50-100 new hits per day, so although it is not much, it might bring in a few new people.

Note: I wasn't really happy with the other "official" banners I saw, so I cut-n-pasted various images to make the one shown. Feel free to use it if you want.

So, how are others helping to spread the word on Serenity (outside your own circle of friends and family, that is)?

RIJPE

I was able to get 5 new Firefly fans by loaning out my DVDs at work. One of those people bought the DVDs for themselves, showed episodes at parties, and now has created several additional fans. I'm so proud!

I also created 3 fans by means of buying them the DVDs.

I purchased the big movie poster and put it outside of my cubicle at work. This caused many people to come over and ask me about it, some of whom subsequently went to see it. This was also a reminder for people that were fans to go see it opening weekend.

I only saw it once last weekend -- sorry, but I needed time to process what I'd seen and it's expensive to get a babysitter. I know that many fans saw it multiple times, which I applaud.

However, I don't really expect the true fans to see it multiple times every weekend it is out! I was very disappointed in the 10.1 million take. Unless we can get mainstream folk, or at least the crowd that seems to go to every other sci-fi movie, to see Serenity in the next two weeks, I'm afraid that we won't get a sequel.

I was also hoping for something more substantial than the 10 million take as well. Not bad, but not good numbers supporting a sequel. I'm hoping not to see the usual 40% drop in revenue next weekend (meaning we'll see only a 6 million or so take). I'm planning on seeing it again this week or next weekend with a friend who's one of those "firefly's just okay" viewers, having shown her the original pilot, "Ariel," "Out of Gas," "Our Mrs. Reyolds," and "Objects in Space." I told her it was worth watching (not wanting to overhype it), and something she may like (she's more into stuff like The Constant Gardener or The History of Violence and the only epside of Firefly she clicked with was "Our Mrs. Reynolds"). I can't get my girlfriend to go, however. She is, unfortunately, NOT into Firefly, being more of the Sex and the City type, and my other friends are Arthouse-Foreign-Film afficianados. Just doing what I can to bring in the numbers, you know, though it's tough, 'cuz the movie deserves it.

Is anyone else planning on seeing it again next weekend?

I kidnapped my bud to go see it (he loves it), and I think I got my teacher interested. I gave him the link to the firefly eps dcwnload. What i think i got him is that theres so much history involved. It's like it's own little world. So if he likes that and then he'll see the movie~!

Bonus, got one of my other friends who likes firefly think about having a firefly roleplaying campaign next yr! woo!

I also plan on kidnapping my other friend when I got to see Serenity for a 3rd time.

I never thought of putting a Serenity banner on my site, even though that seems obvious now - hope you don't mind that I borrowed your banner.

Anything to boost the fanbase (and sales)

CYBERSNARK

T'was my birthday yesterday, so a cousin took me to a movie (my second viewing, her first). She's not a Browncoat (but is a "casual" SF fan), hasn't seen the show, but loved the movie and is looking into borrowing the DVDs from another friend. She doesn't tend to go for the whole "fannish" thing, but I'm hoping she'll string in more (she also has an interest in filmmaking, so I made sure to push everything that Serenity does right in terms of direction and narrative structure).

We spent the ride home comparing her van to Serenity.
