The world's best awards show aired again last night, and featured the presence of Jewel Stait and a Firefly shout-out.

The Spaceys ( http://www.spaceys.ca/), for those who don't know, are awarded yearly by Canada's Space Channel, which is our equivalent of the Sci-Fi Channel. Of course, being Canadian, Space has a total annual budget in the tens of dollars, so everything they do is loveably half-assed, done more for genuine love of sci-fi/fantasy than for wealth, fame, or politics.

No auditorium, no red carpet, no $10,000 designer dresses or planned parties, just one-the-spot candid meetings with whatever stars they can round up (often caught on-set, with hilarious results from the slightly slap-happy actors).

Jewel appeared in the first half, (on the set of Stargate Atlantis --despite the fact that Canada is only just now finishing S2, so her mere presence qualifies as a spoiler). The Firefly shout-out comes from the show's "intro" sketch (with host Jonathan Llyr wandering around set trying to audition). She was hanging out in the Gate-room with David Nykl (Dr. Zalenka), and he's trying to get her to admit that the guys on Atlantis are better-looking than the ones on Firefly (unsuccessfully, I might add. Our Kaylee's loyal).

She also appeared alongside Joe Flanigan (Col. Sheppard) as a presenter.

Also, David Hewlett (Dr. McKay) gave the best acceptance speech ever.

"IN YOUR FACE JACK BAUER!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! WOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOO!! YAYAYAYYAYAYAYA!!!!"
*runs frantically around Atlantis set like a lunatic*

And then when the stars of Atlantis all started fist-fighting over the "best series" award.

I am disappointed with how badly Heroes did, though. Never more than third place in any category. Even after they went and got Masi Oka as a presenter.

For those in Canada, it'll be replaying Tomorrow night at 10, Wednesday at 10 am, and this Saturday at 11 am (all times are Pacific).
