Hulu.com is opening to the publich on March 12, meaning everyone will now be able to watch Firefly free online (may be limited to U.S. viewers). This will be a great way to get newcomers to watch Firefly. It's free and easy!

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

Is this really a good thing? Is Joss or Tim or any of the BDHs getting any revenue from this video streaming? Granted, most people who see even a little bit of Firefly will go on to buy their own dvds, but considering this is one of the things the writers were striking against I have to wonder if we should support it.

It is on fancast as I type this. I think fancast and hulu are related. Not sure how.

cool thing is, you can embed these hulu videos in your web pages. I embeded the entire season of Firefly in my blog:

That's what I want to know. I love the idea of seeing Firefly and other shows through Hulu but I don't want to get too excited. If the crew ain't gettin' paid, well, where is the fun in that?

Anyone know the answer?

I hope someone with more knowledge will come along and tell us for sure, but I believe since the writer's strike was settled that yes indeed writers are paid now for streaming media on the web. I'm sure there are nuances of the contract I don't know, but that was one of the main reasons they did the strike. So watching streaming media online is not only good for us, but good for them as well. :-)

I believe the new contract specified that residuals would be paid to writers after the first fourteen days the video is available on the web. I may be wrong about the specific number of days, but I think I am close. What is to stop them from pulling a particular title after the first fourteen days to avoid having to pay residuals?

LIFESPEED

Turns out that it's part owned by News Corp (i.e. Fox) but despite that I guess it's on the up and up. The about page mentions spending $100 million on this site, some of which I imagine is locked into residuals for the various writers and actors. They've got a lot of SNL as well as Simpsons and the like, so they're probably pretty serious about this gig. Screwing over Joss and the BDHs would be one thing, but they'd have to screw over NBC with this as well and I simply don't see that happening.

So I guess it's one way to get people into the show, personally I'l probably use it to watch Firefly on the comfort of my own PC where my DVD drive is broken.

Just watched the FF episode “Jaynestown” on Hulu. Very enjoyable. The picture was crisp and clear and I saw detail that I’d missed seeing on my tv. Like was mentioned earlier I do believe that the cast and writers are receiving something from the series episodes being viewed on computers. If I felt that they weren’t I wouldn’t be watching.

Anyhoo, the wife and I saw “Waitress” a couple days ago from Netfilx. Good show but I will say that it has some dark moments. Just the same Nathan was good.

YT

the movie is not the Series. Only the facts have been changed, to irritate the innocent; the names of the actors and characters remain the same

Congrats on the new site (it is yours, isn't it?). Unfortunately, someone else has already joined as YT. I hate it when that happens.

And thanks for the tip on New Amsterdam.

Thank you again, Haken, for Keeping the Shiny Side Up . . .
