I've been thinking a lot about this. There are 3 Star Wars movies that are direct to DVD, and one that is coming in theaters, all of which are animation. They are great. They may not have that wonderful acting, but as a fan of the books and the movies I am able to see the beauty of the art in the animation.

Who here thinks that we could petition to get them to make a 3D animation Firefly or Serenity 2. I know it doesn't sound like a spectacular idea offhand, but you might have to use your imagination. Think of it this way, there really is little hope of bringing back all the actors to start the series, and not a huge chance of making another movie. So why not animation? With the technology we have today, the animation would seem so real. And on top of that, it could be 3D animation.

Who's with me? Does anyone have any ideas on how we could get something like this rolling? Any project ideas?

(PS, when I referred to 3D, I meant the glasses wearing 3D.)

A studio actually came on here and asked about doing this a while back. They wanted to know if anyone was interested. The response they got was a huge "No, animation isn't good enough for us." I was not happy. I thought the whole point of these forums was to get our show back, but I guess not. Wish I could find that thread again, sorry.

Well, as I may agree that I want the show back, animation may be the only way to go. I mean, CGI has produced so many awesome movies in the past, I don't see why it wouldn't be good enough for at least a sequel. Yeah I understand we love our original cast, but you can't have it all. I think animation is better than nothing.

Really? Shame on those that nay-sayed.

Animation has come along way from Steam Boat Willy. With today's technology animators can do cinematic level animation on a low budget with cheaper more commercially available software. Sure it's a little more labor intensive than shooting live, but you don't have to pay for lighting, props, location, wardrobe, makeup, ect. Plus we could get episodes on planets that don't look like twenty miles out of LA (Sihnon! Londinium! Harvest! Three Hills! All that don't look like Southern California!) Of course I would be a little choosey as to the style the animation is rendered in as well as the quality of it (Computer Animation would be my first choice, though I am in complete love with the 2-d style that Avatar the Last Airbender was done in and I think Firefly could translate well into the pseudo japanese style), but it would probably be cheaper to produce and the crew could work it around their schedules for voice acting (where filming would be harder since some already have projects and rival networks might not want to given them out for filming ect) also animation companies can have the cast come in for some video study, having them act out certain scenes then using the video to animate and capture their presence (Disney did it for years with their voice actors) so we would still get Nathan's trademark 'did I leave the stove on?' expressions and Summer's fragmented stare.

So yeah, I'm all for animation

I don't particularly *want* an animated sequel, but if it got made, you know I'd be first in line to see it!!

Of course, if an animated sequel was made, it'd prob be easier to get our BDHs to do their own character's voices.
