Does anyone notice except that Firefly has already defied the rules by staying alive and keeping a pretty large and loyal fanbase after it's cancellation and with its revival on DVD and the possibility of a movie and throught the word of mouth has nearly doubled (perhaps tripled) its fanbase in a matter of a few months. And it is also bringing in people from all walks of life. Different ages, different countries, different philosophies, different backgrounds, different likes and dislikes. Is it me or does it seem that Firefly has broken the rules as far as this goes?

I don't see this train slowing down anytime soon. Yeah, the sales on Amazon have dipped but that is because all of us diehard fans bought our DVDs together. But it is remarkable that it stays in the top 50 months after its release. You would be hard press to find a bad review on it and most of those reviews come from idiots.

Now I am beginning to see Firefly DVDs being sold in stores that weren't saling them upon their release. A Wal Mart that I go to wasn't selling them a month ago and now they do. The person at the register said they sale out of them pretty fast and they have to make sure they order a few more every shipment or they might run out of them.

I think everyday it seems that Firefly's future is getting a little bit better. Or maybe we're just being lucky so far.

I hope the Fox execs are really taking notice that the fanbase HAS grown, WITHOUT it being on the air or there help at all. Imagine what it could have been if they HAD supported the show and *gasp* advertised.

I'm suddenly reminded of Lord of the Rings and last nights oscars. I'm sure the execs at Miramax who passed on LotR have had very red faces for a while now. . .

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I think it is safe to say the fanbase has grown. There is at least one or two people each week that pop in and introduce themselves. I think the DVD influenced this growth more than anything, but word of mouth conversions are bringing in new fans too.

As news of the movie and its progress starts to leak out I think we will see more fans appear, and old ones that have not posted in awhile return.

What's a "Phenomon"?

Is it like a "Pheromone," i.e. a "chemical secreted by an animal that influences the behavior or development of others of the same species"? If so, it would certainly explain Firefly's growing popularity!

So, any Firefly fans out there with poor bathing habits - keep it up! The more stink you generate, the more popular Firefly will become!

Funny, this Firefly resurgance has not been seen in TV land since the original Star Trek had been cancelled. Sure, there are loads of campaigns to save 'our fav show' out there, however they are often contrived by only a few fans.

Call me crazy, but I think this continued interest in Firefly is rather spontanious.

Am I wrong?

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

Star Trek didn't really start its resurgence until it ran regularly in syndication reruns, but that was several years after its cancelation.

Firefly fans know that Joss cares about this project, the characters and the situations, and Joss knows he has fans anticipating any new adventures in the Firefly 'verse he is able to bring us.

Together, I know we can make it happen, and that is what makes Firefly unique.

Hi everyone - I've posted one or two responses, but never said howdy 'till now. I agree about the Firefly Phenomonon being similar to the original Star Trek. I guess it dates me, but I remember watching a Star Trek re-run one day in the very early 70s and afterwards, instead of a preview, they had a still picture of DeForrest Kelley (Dr McCoy) with a recording of him announcing the first Star Trek convention in Philadelphia ("Wanna buy a tribble?").
And yes, that was about 5 years after the show was cancelled. We here at FireflyFans.net won't have to wait quite so long!
