BUFO

I'm a 61 year old woman who discovered FF about 6 mos ago. In a short span of time, I heard about it from 3 different sources. So I started watching it & watching it. I now own Blu Ray copies of FF & S.

The acting and the writing are brilliant. The characters are so well drawn and consistent. Now I watch it over & over to anticipate different scenes and lines. I can't remember a program where I loved all the characters but I do here.

Mal: Love his flowery bastardization of the English language & his point & shoot technique like on the fed, Patience's horse, kicking the guy into the engine. He can be a real bad ass. Great paternal feelings towards Kaylee. Oh and also great eye candy.

Zoe: Love that she's Mal's right hand man and just as good as a fighter. As a woman, I wish I had her legs. They go on forever. She's great with Wash. Wish she'd call the Captain, Mal occasionally.

Wash: Love his dead pan humor. He's really a hoot.

Jayne: My favorite thug. He's so dumb and so funny.

Kaylee: Probably my 2nd fav char next to Mal. I don't usually like perky but I do love Kaylee and her engine nerdiness. I love her innocence and her feelings for Simon. Especially love her holding court in Shindig.

Simon: His ironic wit makes me laugh. Also, he is not afraid of anything even when he gets beat up. I love his protective feelings towards River. Who wouldn't want him as a big brother.

River: As she said, Simon found her broken. She's unpredictable, brilliant and innocent. Love the dance poses when she's watching the crew from above and in Object when she 'becomes' Serenity.

Inara: Beautiful and kind. Despite everything, she loves Mal. While I don't think their relationship would have worked, they really needed to at least consummate it.

Book: He keeps the crew grounded morally or at least tries and his 'special' line is one of the most memorable.

I just watched the pilot for the nth time and I can't help but think that if they had shown the ep first, the show might have made it.

I could say a lot more but I won't. I've been reading this site for a while now and enjoy all your comments.

Welcome to the party- we didn't notice ya hiding in the corner with the lampshade over your head. Glad you finally stepped out.

As a reward for your heroism, step over to the buffet there, and have a strawberry, one of the big ones dipped in chocolate. They've also got some kind of hot cheese sauce, but I wouldn't recommend it on strawberries-- doesn't really go, does it?

Now that you're here, push right in and join the talk- we got folks arguin' about guns, and politics, and which kinda ships are better than others, and lotsa other stuff.

And we're mostly a bunch of harmless and friendly folk. The brawling and the punching part and duels, those are just sorta -- well, stuff that happens.

And BTW, I'm a young guy of only 60, and I have an eye for beautiful older women-- Are you busy later?

Welcome Bufo! We're glad you could post with us!

Now Wishi backs slowly out of the room so as not to disturb the dance of the Flirtasaurus**

You're in good company! I'm actually pretty young, but I do know for a fact that this show has a broad appeal to a wide range of audience. In any case, we're glad to have you.

The cast, characters, and chemistry really are just perfect. While they all build on some basic archetypes, rather than being unoriginal they instead become instantly relateable. All are likeable in their way and all of them have plenty of potential for twists in their backstories.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

Welcome aboard, Bufo. You're now on the best boat in the 'verse. The crew quarters are full, but the cargo bay is huge and we've got plenty of room for you and any others you might bring along with you.

I'll be 61 myself in a couple of months, and available, so be prepared to witness a duel between me and NewOldBrowncoat for your attention.

Hey NOBC, My fav saying is "You don't quit playing because you get old; you get old because you quit playing" I'll never quit playing and refuse to act my age. Glad there are some more mature (ahem) browncoats. LOL

If you hit "REPLY" on someone else's post then they will get an email notification concerning it if they have it set up that way. You can also hit "REPLY WITH QUOTE" and it will reference their comment that you are replying to.

Hi

Welcome
That's what a ship is, you know - it's not just a keel and a hull and a deck and sails, that's what a ship needs.

A mere schmear strawberry? Where indeed is the traditional jug of Mudder's Milk we've offered on the ramp to professing newcomers? And the invitation to visit the locker wherein the virtual browncoats are kept? And directions to the shimmerwine fountain at the aft end of the galley buffet? I'll admit the best thing to dip in the hot cheese is your fingers but best be sure nobody's observing you when you make the attempt.
Welcome, bufo. There's still a fair amount of play left here, though the lama-shaving parties have trailed off and we haven't had a hodgeberry stomping in a couple of years.

I've been sayin' that all year...I think the young party crowd has mostly moved on to twitter and my facey-spacey-pages... We're doin good to welcome people and hold basic conversations lately. (always does get a little slow during summer anyhow)

I feel unqualified ta hand out virtual browncoats since I didn't know anything about FF until the movie came out...I missed the main battle...
I just keep the chat rooms warm and stocked these days...I'm good at babbling

You surely aren't talking about me. I may have a few years on, even be chronologically challenged, but I'm about as mature as Hoban Washburne. "I won't grow up, I won't grow up, I refuse to go to school--"

Pistols at 10 paces? Best 2 falls out of 3? Swords at dawn-- no, not that one, I'll still be in bed at 10:00. You can show up then if you want.

Hey , I didn't wanta shove all the goodies on her myself. Thought I'd give the other guys a chance to be second best. And look at my rival over there, all he offered her was an EMPTY CARGO BAY. The full and complete welcome -- hey, man, that's not my job! Besides which, nobody ever gave me a key to the coat locker, and Jayne was too busy to blast it open.

Oops. Not meaning to offend anyone by making sure the full sign-on bonus was offered to our new (#46261 already!!) crew-member.

FollowMal has the key to the coat locker but I jimmied the door, as she is often away on other missions.

Not covered (my bad) was the warning about something being under the buffet table at the shimmerwine end. Don't let your feet get too far under, and for Joss' sake don't lift the tablecloth. There have been Incidents.

And nobody has mentioned the ice-planets in the bottom rack of the cooler. Full range of flavors this week, but the Borosian Ginger Blossom is going fast, so grab one if it's your favorite.

What's better than an empty cargo bay if one has lots of cargo to bring aboard? My latest raid (scuse it - - mission) has brought back a brand new ice-machine, several punnets of berries, ammo for all the weapons except Vera, and a lot of the stuff on the refrigerator list. Just help me to finish unloading the stuff.

Just teasin', FB...

as I know you were.

If I'da wanted to hog all the fun, I'd have shown her the fresh bao ,and wife soup, then taken her down to the EMPTY CARGO BAY for some target practise, and to let her watch me lift weights... or at least balcony seats to the hoopball tournament.

Well, bufo, I see the welcoming committee has sent out the word.
If you join in the target practice in the NOT EMPTY cargo bay (hmph!) be sure to pick up your brass. It tends to roll around and go down through the grill, causing no end of problems.

wife soup ran out over the weekend, so we have to find a wife who knows the recipe.
