BUFO

Now we know about Mal and Inara, and Simon and Kaylee, but there's some others I thought would make a perfect couple.

Patience and Niska. I think this is a match made in hell! I know he's supposedly married, but...

Atherton and Banning. The dandy and dandette living in plasticland.

This one may be a stretch, but how about YoSaffBridge and Badger? They are both dishonest, out for themselves and don't care who gets hurt.

Now my question: In Our Mrs Reynolds, after Saffron knocks out Mal and she runs into Inara, they have a moment. Then you hear the alarm and Inara figures out what she's doing. My question is, when did Inara figure it out and if the alarm hadn't sounded, would she have (ahem) invited Saffron into her shuttle?

Most of them really wouldn't have anything to gain from marriage I think. Niska is married, Patience wouldn't want to share her money or her iron-fisted rule over her world, YoSaffBridge gave up on giving her marriages a genuine try after Durren Haymer.

Atherton couldn't get married if he tried, I mean he couldn't even get a date without paying for it before the sword fight. He's definitely not going to have a chance now. Much as he deserved it, Mal probably did ruin his life.

Badger doesn't really seem too bad, though he's not very trustworthy. Banning probably already has an arranged marriage planned for her.

Nah, I don't think so, not unless Inara thought she could incapacitate Saffron there. When Inara was coming out of the second shuttle after checking the cortex connection, she was already a bit suspicious about what Saffron was doing. That, and she catches Saffron out on a lie. Mal already told her that Saffron doesn't think much of "whoring," and Mal doesn't have much reason to say Saffron doesn't admire her when she really does. I mean, we saw his reaction. He kinda likes the girl on girl action, and surely Inara has had female clients before so Inara would know that.

Inara is playing along when she asks Saffron to come to her shuttle, but the alarm makes them both drop their pretenses.

Yeah, what Inara and Saffron were doing was the dialogue equivalent of Dread Pirate Roberts fighting Inigo Montoya in The Princess Bride --they each could've ended it sooner, but neither of them could really resist The Game itself.

The alarm just meant it was time to get serious and stop pretending to be left handed.

We applied the cortical electrodes but were unable to get a neural reaction from either patient.
