If this has been posted, sorry.

Wal-Mart has pakaged Serenity and COR in a value 2 pack for 14 bucks and change. COR is not, in my oppinion, as good as Serinity but it not bad in the realm of scifi. So for under 15 bucks they are a STEAL. Serenity alone is priceless but it should leave no excuses for any of our friends to not own Serenity. I grabbed about 10 of them and determined that Christmas shopping 06 is complete (in April....YES!!!)

Later Brown Coats,

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

Is it the widescreen or full screen version of Serenity?

Just out of curiosity, on the Chronicles of Riddick DVD, when it says Fight or Convert, is there any difference in the option you choose.

Yeah, the necromongers are like the Borg, or the U.S. government. Chosing to fight or convert obviously does make a difference.
I rather enjoyed Chronicles of Riddick and own the director's cuts of both Riddick and Pitch Black, and that 30-minute animation thingy that links the two together, as well. Played through the game, too - very shiny! So you could say I really dig Riddick.
I love Serenity, though.

I've tried both several times,....didn't see any difference. I wondered about the same thing,...maybe we have to do something else?

I picked it up last nite just because it was the widescreen. My wife got me the BDM for xmas, but so many peeps were buying it that the store only had the fullscreen left!

The menu at the beginning Fight/Convert...I believe it is the choice between the Extended and the Theatrical versions of the film...I could be wrong.

Oh, THAT! The DVD has got two different menu designs, one in Riddick's style, one in the necromongers', and that's how you chose. Both are shiny. I thought Fight Or Convert was a lame tag line, but you actually meant the menu. I'm stoopit.

The 10 I picked were all widescreen for Serenity and COR and at the time I did not notice any full screen but I was not looking for any. Good luck.

I think if there was no (heaven forbid) Firefly, I would definitely put COR on the exact same level as Serenity. But the char.s were already in my blood.

Thanks for the info. This will work well for the June 23rd effort and for my not-so-obsessed friends of whom I am trying to get involved.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Thanks for the heads up LeadMagnet. I will pick up one or two sets tonight on the way home.

This could be a good opportunity for us to get some new people to give the DVD a try.

Wait a sec. You don't suppose that the DVD sales have dipped enough that Wal Mart is selling them off cheap to get rid of them do you? I hope not & that it is not an indicator of how the DVD is doing in the market.

Not if Universal has put the money into making an HD-DVD of Serenity...I think the DVD sales have actually surprised a few people. Made them re-think this whole box-office thing.

Nah, Agatsu hit it on the head. At first I thought it was widescreen vs fullscreen, but a quick test proved that wrong.
I liked the theatrical release of COR, but didn't like the director's cut all that much.

No. Just no. Not even the same building.Vin Deisel is not cool. The guys name is Mark Vincent, who does he think he is? Ice Cube? I will not justify his suckness by calling him that. What gives him the right think he is so cool? You could kick Mark Vincents ass.

Serenity is a GOOD movie, with GOOD characters, GOOD direction, and a GOOD script. I saw Serenity on DVD, without seeing Firefly at all. Loved it, wasn't your normal Sci-Fi garbage. I saw about 20 minutes of COR on DVD, and turned it off. It wasnt the worst Sci-Fi movie, by far, but thats not saying much.

In my opinion this just makes Serenity look bad. But on the other hand, we will get alot of COR fans because they will watch Serenity and realize how much COR sucked. Plus its a great deal.

I agree. I loved Pitch Black but COR was just awful - brimming with plot holes, bad acting, a weak script and a dreadful story - though visually it was pretty interesting and inventive, and I liked the idea of the Necromongers. However, in a set with Serenity? SERENITY?!

I'm actually a bit horrified they even thought to put the two together!

I will now honestly apologise to anyone that likes COR - you're all entitled to your opinions, and please note that this is just mine - so if you liked it, fair enough. But I really felt let down by it after having enjoyed Pitch Black so much.

- Shiny. Let's be bad guys.

I totally agree as far as character development. Joss cannot be touched there. No question that Vin D is no great actor.

Lookin' back at my post, I should have clarified. The overall story line of COR is what I mean. Looking at the personalities in Serenity compared to COR.. hmmmm well there is no comparison. BDM dominates! But, the concept of COR's future time/space as compared to the 'verse's peaked my interest near the same. I found myself filling in the gaps with COR. Joss is sooo deep you don't have to do that AND being that there WAS a series ahead of it.

I am still convinced Serenity was lil' too action heroine, Sorry.

Nothing and I mean nothing can touch the series!

...and I am sure I cannot kick Vins or Mark's ass.

Yeah, I liked Pitch Black, and frankly i wanted to give COR a chance. Maybe i just should have watched the whole thing. I mean its not as bad as Aeon Flux, or Ultra Violet.

That would just make me cry to see a movie like that huggin Serenity.

Did you watch the theatrical release or the directors cut? I thought the theatrical release was a lot more subtle. There are moments of stupidity in the movie, moments so badass that all realism is thrown to the side, but it's still a good movie. Not a whole lot of rewatchability, though.

I noticed the two-pack at a store yesterday, so I checked a bunch of stores today.

The Serenity/Chronicles of Riddick two-packs are also at Best Buy (They have a special two-pack area of the store--you have to search for that section) and FYE stores.

1 Wal-Mart had a Big box in the front of the store with all the two-packs of lots of Universal movies. Sides of the display were blocked by other boxes. I had to move a box a little, so I could move some of the Serenity two-packs on the side to the front area to fill up the space that wasn't as full anymore because people had bought Serenity. I left it a little empty, so people could tell people had bought some.

1 Wal-Mart put the two-packs on shelves and Serenity had it's own designated area.

1 Wal-Mart had the Big Box of two-packs in the back of the Media Section way out of the way. So I took two of the Serenity and put them in an empty rack near the Full-Screen Serenity that they had left (All the widescreen were gone) . I also stuck a Serenity on the top of the box, so people might notice.

1 Wal-Mart Big Box of two-packs in a hallway in front of the Media Section.

If you want, keep an eye on your two-pack Box displays and make sure the Serenity ones don't get lost behind Doom or something else.

At Best Buy, I moved the Serenity two-packs so
you could tell there had been more, and some had sold.

Haven't done this since Serenity came out and I had move Serenity from the blocked sides to the empty pockets in the front.

I think it is all Universal stuff, so I'm going to try to keep the displays nice and neat.

I wonder how much of the decision to package the two together had to do with the similarities in the cover designs? :)

I thought CoR was alright. Pitch Black was groovy, as a rental.

One thing that I got a kick out of in Riddick, though, was the amount of energy and thought that must have went into coming up with different ways for Riddick to put on and take off those shades :) lol

STORYMARK

Throw me into the pro-Riddick camp. I've enjoyed the entire series (both movies, anime and game). I thought COR was a pretty fun, "Conan The Barbarian" in space-type flick.

I'm not a huge fan of Vin Disel (who's not exactly the first actor to change their name) in general, but Riddick was one of those characters that he just seemed born to play. Maybe someday he'll be half-way convincing in something else.

I thought the director's cut was much better. Fewer plot holes, and it had more of an epic feeling by delving into the Furion backstory a bit more, and by opening up possibilities for further sequels (which probably won't happen).

"I thoroughly disapprove of duels. If a man should challenge me, I would take him kindly and forgivingly by the hand and lead him to a quiet place and kill him."
