This is probably one of the stranger topics that have been posted here, but I'm in a class that requires me to use a single story (not one I make up) for several projects, the first of which is a playground. Obviously, I am doing Firefly/Serenity for my theme, so I have to now design a Serenity themed playground for kids. Anyone have any ideas on how that could be done?

Serenity-shaped slide?

(Horrifying space)monkey-bars?

Watergun turrets shaped like Vera or Haven's AA cannon?

Serenity shaped play structure of course (perhaps with a teeter totter in front for the crew) and you'll need a lot of those horses on springs things. Desert themed plantings around the edges and an expansive sandbox to give that dusty frontier feel. And if you can slip it in an ice planet (really snow cones I'd guess) stand.

I don't know if an inside playground is really the idea. However, I've considered doing Serenity-shaped playground all-together, with the ability to climb on the top and slide down through the engines, and then there could be stairs inside, etc. No harpoons in the cockpit though.

THESOMNAMBULIST

Wow what a great project! I'd love to work on a Firefly playground.

How about mini spaceships from the show that kids can sit in and bounce around in. You know how they make them so they sit on a large spring and the kids can rock themselves forwards and back. Kids love that!

Also Niska's space station could be a pivotal part of the playground. The kids could go inside, push large buttons, climb weird shaped stairs to a series of slides of varying heights. There could also be a rope bridge that leads to a large "Miranda" styled planet that has seats moulded into it.

Large planets dotted around the whole playground could be pretty striking too. And if they were hollowed out then the kids could kinda run into them and sort of sit inside.

There's a playground near me where I have often taken my Niece and Nephews and they go mad for this climbing frame that is shaped like a steamtrain. Well you could design one to look like Serenity.

Ok just a few quick thoughts, but I was wondering how are you to realise this? Will you be doing sketches? Or do you just have to come up with ideas? How extreme can you go, because I actually just wrote about another three paragraphs before realising my playground was more like a Funfare!

Good luck.

I'm not sure yet what the extent of the playground can/needs to be, so keep the ideas coming! I don't think sketches will be necessary, but if they are I can handle that I think.

CAPTAINCOUPI

Kids love to pretend they are driving/flying things. A simple version of the cockpit with lots of buttons and levers to play with, pretend you're the Captain.

Canton mud pit: Wading pool next to a sand pit.

Mule ride: Little pedal powered Mules attached to a track.

Alright, I'm actually updating this now with the full list of projects I have to work on. Any suggestions for any of these would be awesome.

All Firefly themed:

Playground
Video Game (different from existing)
Museum
Theme Park
Family Entertainment Center (like Chuck-E-Cheese or Fun Spot)
Retailtainment (either retail store like a mall or department store, or a food establishment)
Sports Facility
RPG (either virtual or physical, so probably either MMORPG or D&D style)
Future (this one's pretty much wide open, I just define what time frame it takes place and what future tech would be necessary)

I can also decide to set any and all of these in a different time frame, though I think it needs to be consistent, or I can just say which laws (even laws of nature) that I am choosing to decide don't exist in the creation of these venues. This could be a lot of fun, but I have to avoid scope creep so I don't do too much and not have enough time to do it all.

Also, if anyone is able to help with art of any type for any of these, it would be welcome. She's perfectly alright with that as long as a cite the source, because it's not an art class so we're not expected to be able to do that kind of stuff.

Have the front of the ship, with the bay doors to slide down, and the turbines to crawl through (or kick evil henchman into ;) )

How about a spinning hovermule?
