Friends! Browncoats! I'm so excited! My cunning plan to intrigue and introduce new people to the 'Verse by using a Serenity wallpaper on my work computer has... WORKED!!!

A girl came up to me yesterday and she was very excited. She said, "Oh my gosh is that for a Serenity 2?!?"

"Sadly, no," I said. "This is for the movie that came out a few years ago. It's one of my favorites. But I think the tv show is even better. I've got a wallpaper for that, too."

She looked surprised. "There's a show?"

My breath caught... Flashback to Christmas of 2005 when I discovered that there was more of the 'Verse to be seen! Total Fangirl Opportunity!

"Oh, yes!" I said. "It was a show first, then it was turned into a movie after it was cancelled. "You've never seen it?!?"

"No, I had no idea there was a show!"

"Never fear," said I. "Tomorrow I will bring one of my DVD sets for you to borrow! It's great! You'll love it!"

She was very excited. She thanked me and went on to her desk. And I felt very pleased with myself. All in a (Browncoat's) day's work, you know.

"Can you, for a moment, imagine how depressing it is to teach one thousand years of masculine ineptitude? Why do you think there are so few women historians? I'll tell you why. Because history is not such a frolic for women as it is for men... History is a commentary on the various and continuing incapabilities of men. History is women following behind with a bucket and a mop." - Alan Bennett, "The History Boys"

Wallpaper for my 'puter at work is Serenity flying over the clouds. It has definitely caught the interest of several folks and I'm well on my way to recruiting half my office to the Brown side. My DVD's haven't been home for almost 9 months now!
Keep on flyin'!

Wish I could put up a Firefly/Serenity wall paper on my computer at work. I'm at a bank and things like that (that customers might see) and internet access is tightly controlled.

I have recruited a few co-workers though. Mainly though mentioning Nathan Fillion.

My boss is on the second disc of my Firefly DVD's right now, and another coworker has now settled into her new house and just told me she's going to have "a Firefly weekend" on Hulu to see if she likes it. Wonder what the answer will be...!

If you don't have a spare DVD set to loan, potential recruits (in the US) can watch Firefly online at:

All 14 episodes are there, and include the "lost" voice over intros by Mal and Book. Have 'em watch the 2 part pilot, Serenity, first, working their way up the list from the bottom at #1 (dunno why it's like that, but it's free, so...). After watching the series, have 'em look for the BDM.

If they're from outside the US, they won't be able to access Hulu more than once, due to licensing issues which Hulu is working to resolve in the near future.

Hulu has a lotta other shiny shows, including Doctor Horrible's Sing Along Blog!

Seriously,

I have recruited my son, who loves sci-fi, and now is hooked onto Firefly (his fav ep is OiS). He in turn has recruited several of his friends. In a couple of weeks I'll be taking a short vacation with family members and I'm going to pull out the big guns (DVD set) for their viewing pleasure.

So keep the faith, baby!

Can't stop the signal!

All these stories are fantastic and so heartening. I myself was turned into a "Browncoat" early this year (never even head of the series before) and now not a weekend goes by since that time that I don't re-watch an episode or two..or three. If time permits I'll throw in an episode during the week too. I've got Mal's pic on my desktop at work of course and alternate between him and the crew. I cannot believe that it's the year 2008 and I'm absolutely and utterly in love with a series that was cancelled in 2002... talk about something special.

This is what I'm sayingisall!

Several years later this magical TV show is winning hearts left and right. Six years is a long time for anything much less a TV show to have this kind of "legs" - so, this is what I'm saying Universal!

Welcome aboard Moni.

Shiny! Let's be bad guys!

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Great work EmpireX.

There are a bunch of folk out there that have never heard of Firefly or Serenity. Still more have heard of it, but discounted it because Fox cancelled it. Plenty of chances for browncoats to introduce some new people to the shiny 'verse Joss created.
