He was a no talent old fart who made millions of dollars a year for 5 minutes of TV a week, and then all he did for that 5 minutes was bitch about his telephone or wonder why cheddar cheese was yellow.

Whozit. BE NICE. I didn't watch Andy Rooney on a regular basis. Yes he did complain. He complained about things many of us wonder about or get irritated by. If he was lucky it came out in a witty way. Being happy someone is dead? Whozit! You are jealous because you don't make your living with a five minute monologue once a week. On the other hand, there might be an opening...

I'm not happy he's dead, I'm just NOT sorry to see him go. He was WAY over paid for what he did, and what did he do? He bitched and complained about crap nobody cared about and got mega bucks for it, I do it for free :biggrin:

I'm sure they'll be talk about his replacement and a big deal made when he/she does their 1st essay. Then a week later no one will care....just like when Conan started at TBS, now he can't get arrested.

I always liked Andy Rooney when I watched him. I remember one of his segments when he was whining and complaining in quite an hysterical way why bill payment envelopes come in so many different sizes. And the endless varieties of place-stamp-here boxes really drove him nuts! RIP Andy.

Rooney was another of "The Greatest Generation", one of those who was actually there at the liberation of the concentration camps. He was a pacifist when the war began, and freely admitted that what he saw in those camps thoroughly convinced him that he had been wrong in opposing U.S. involvement in the war.

I'm not sure where Wazit's resentment of Andy Rooney is coming from, he's probably just jealous because no one cares when he complains while people listened to Andy Rooney's complaints every week. I understand being a little jealous of someone who gets paid big bucks to do something you think you're good at, but your jealousy is way out of control/over the top and you're sentiments on the matter are hard to relate to because its a bummer when people die even when they aren't your favorite person.

AU I'm sorry about your friend's passing, that's tough stuff. And I know what you mean about that generation, every day we lose more of them and soon we won't have any left and that will be sad indeed. I think people have had similar feelings about their older generations who experienced significant things for time imemorium. :(

Damn!!!! I should get paid for doing monologues. I can make em witty or topical or whatever...actually I'm surprised I haven't been spruiked for a career in Television or motivational speaking I could make squillions and retire before I'm 50!!!! Dreams dreams....or I could look into it. Imagine the bi-lines: "Middle aged Woman with multiple "neurodiverse" conditions has had a functional and rich life despite the oh too obvious barriers thrown her way by the less intellectually developed you too could have the life you deserve etc etc etc"... ahhh sweet cyniscism. We could all be rich if we hit that path don't ya think?
