They ruin you just so that they can profit, so that they can make themselves feel better about their own Hwai mistakes, thier own problems, their own flaws. It wasn't land, it wasn't money, it was gorram control and dominance.
And the special forces never commited any acts you spoke of. The regular army did. The militias did. Not the special forces. *Zero walks into her house on planet Santo*

Aura? Aura, you in here?

*A young female, about 20, with crystal blue eyes and dark black hair walks out from another room* Zero? That you?

Zero: Yeah, it's me. *smiles*

Aura: Oh my word, Zero! It's great to see you! I thought you were headin' out to fight with the faction.

Zero: I am. Had a good bit of time before we head out so I thought I'd come see you before I'm stationed.

Aura: Well... great. I'm making dinner. I think there will be enough for three... *taps her index finger on her chin*

Zero: Three? Who's the third person?

Aura: Oh, um... *giggles*

Zero: Oh, Lord, Aura. Don't tell me you got yourself into a relationship again.

Aura: Aw, c'mon, sis... give me some credit. Those other men weren't the right ones for me. I know Wolford is.

Zero: That's what you said with Jack, Hurst, and Fischer.

Aura: But I just know he's the right one!

Zero: *sits herself down on a chair as she recalls knowing the name "Wolford." She can't recall a face to match it with however, or where she had heard it before. Zero leans back in hr chair*

*A tall man who is rubbing his wet, tousseled brown locks with a towel walks from the room without a shirt, showing off his chiseled torso. The rest of his body is covered in torn & worn out jeans and a pair of clean socks. He is extremely good=looking and also looks about 25.*

Wolford: What? *sees Zero* Ohhh.... tā mā de... *pulls a gun from the inside of his pants*

Zero: *looks at him and almost immediately draws her pistol* Put your hands up Jagger or I swear I will blow whatever's left of that tiny brain of yours.

Aura: Whoa, whoa, what the jiǔ yōu is goin' on?! Did I miss something??? Who the hell is Jagger?!

Zero: This is the "Wolford" guy you were talking about? Boy, Aura, did you ever get it as wrong as this...

Aura: Wolford? What is she talking about?

Wolford/Jagger: She's just mad 'cause I dumped her a long while back. And yet she still pursues? *lowers his gun to his side and approaches Zero, getting in her face* I don't believe it.

Zero: *Puts gun barrel to Wolford's chest* Good, 'cause you shouldn't. Aura's my sister and there ain't no way in hell I'm letting you fool her like you did me.

Wolford/Jagger: Aw, c'mon, cupcake. We got ourselves a past together. I know you ain't planning on shooting me. Your bark was always worse than your bite. *grins wickedly*

Zero: Well it's been a long time since then, "sweetheart" and I promise you I ain't the same girl you met back on St. Albans.

Wolford/Jagger: Ah, that's right. I'd forgotten. St. Albans.... and how romantic that day was, wasn't it?

Zero: I'm nauseated just thinking about it. Thanks for the flashback. Now get out of here before I gun you down.

Wolford/Jagger: Hey Aura, you sure this is your sister?

Aura: H-huh, a-whaaa? Um, yeah.... that's my sister. She just came home to visit before she was stationed to fight in the war.

Wolford/Jagger: The war? Since when were you some tough girl handling military0based guns? Last I remember, I was the one who had to take care of you on St. Albans. And what about that time on Ezra? You would have been helpless without me.

Zero: *Stands her ground* I said get out.

Zero: *waves gun toward the door*

Wolford/Jagger: *Smiles and walks out*

Zero: *lowers her gun and sighs*

Aura: Zero!! How could you? *grabs Zero by the shoulders and throws her against the wall* I loved him! I really did!

Zero: Well I can guarantee you that he didn't love you, Aura.

Aura: *Tears form in her eyes* Why do you always have to ruin things for me? Why can't you just be happy for me for once in my life, Zero? Huh?

Zero: *Steps forward* Aura, he's a criminal and a master of lies and a renowned con-artist. Jagger isn't even his real name and I can guarentee you that "Wolford" ain't either. He ain't gonna let anyone know his name, even after he's long gone and being beat by the devil, himself.

Aura: Get out.

Zero: What? Aura--

Better wake up sleeping beauty! The cap'n seems to be expecting some company. You might just want to go and pretty yourself up for that. We may not want to scare them off.

*Leaves the cargo bay before spine can answer and heads to the bridge. On the way tater comes out of her bunk looking very touseled, and so does tillie. They head to the bridge together*

Tater: What's going on?

Tillie: No idea. Let's get up there and see what the cap'n is seein'

*Tater looks at upper*

Don't look at me, I haven't a clue. The only thing I have is a headache. Damn, Tillie, that stuff kicks like a mule!*grins at tillie*

*As they reach the bridge, the doctor catches up from behind and so does spine*

Who's out there, captain? Is it the Starship Enterprise?

*Zero only looks confused only for a moment before moving on to annoyance*

Zero:This is no lauging matter! I think we may be taking a little longer than we thought to get to that snug little abduction we had planned as our next team-building experience.

*The radio starts to crackle*

*BRG looks at Zero, and decides to intervene as she seems ready to explode*

BRG: While this is, of course, facinating, isn't there a medical emergency here, captain? Can we move the patient to the infirmary asap?

*Zero gives BRG a dirty look, but nods*

Zero: The doc is right. But first I'm going to need you and your people to leave their weapons in my public relations officer's custody. Ian, if you will

*Zero inclines her head toward the visitors and Spine starts moving in their direction*

Tillie: Zero sent me down to assist, said I'd be better help to her in here than in the engine room for now. Figures the sooner your patient gets fixed, the sooner she can order the bad apples off the boat.

BRG: You have experience? *Tillie rolls her eyes* But you never said--

Tillie: Like tinkering with the insides of engines better, is all. But this is an emergency, so...

*after the men place the patient on the table, they stand outside the infirmary door like sentries. BRG closes the door and scrubs, then lifts the thin cloth covering the patient*

No, that wouldn't work... she looks back at jagger studies the distance and turns her head back to the wrench. Maybe it would... Tater lunges for the wrench then slides over and hits Jagger in his 'private parts', he doubles over in pain droping his weapon, zero runs over and retrieves it as upper, in the same instant, steals back her own weapon from kate then points it at her head*

Jagger: Urgh...why you little-! *he swings his fist at tater hiting her in face causing her to fall to the ground*

*spine and zero at once shots jagger's other shoulder*

*tater gets to her feet wobbling slightly, upper runs over to her and looks at her face which is puffy and red. some blood is dripping from the side of her mouth*

Jagger:We were hired by Blue Sun. You may not know this, but this ship was an Independent supply ship during the war.

Zero:That I knew.

Jagger:Anyway, this ship was in service towards the end of the war. It's last cargo before the war ended were biotoxins for Operation Final Strike. The plan was to load a ship with biotoxins, have it fly to the Alliance war headquarters on Londinium under the pretense of surrender, then distribute the toxins over the base. The Independents were forced into surrender before the plan was enacted.

Spinebite:And you think the biotoxins are still onboard?

Zero:Not possible. Not anything on this ship that I don't know what it is.

Jagger:Well, Blue Sun thinks so, and they're willing to pay handsomely for them.

BRG:Do you know where these biotoxins supposedly are?

Jagger:Somewhere in the cargo hold, thats all I know.

Zero:Doc, you can begin patching it up. But don't spare anything fancy like antibiotics. Spine, you and Upper go keep him under guard. If he so much as blinks wrong, put a bullet in him.

Upper:Aye, cap'n.

Spine:This is going to be fun.

Well, just do your job and watch his eyes. Might give you an excuse to shoot him. *he begins working on him with the unclean materials and without any kind of painkillers or disinfectants for the wound*

*Stands in the door of the infirmary and looks on as the doc works on Jagger*

Upper:This could have been upsetting if he wasn't such a sorry excuse for a human being.

*BRG grunts an affirmative whilst digging for bulllets in the left shoulder. Jagger groans only once, before he passes out. Despite the lack of materials invested, BRG is careful and neat in his work, and the bullets are soon removed.*

*The com crackles to life*

Zero: Ian, will you come and keep an eye on the rest of the prisoners for me? I need Tater on the bridge and Tillie in the engine room, something is wrong with my ship and it needs fixin'

Spine: You need any more help here, doc? He seems pretty quiet to me. *Pokes the unconcious Jagger in the stomach*

BRG *cleaning the bloody surgical equipement*: No, it seems fine for now.

*Spine leaves. BRG finishes cleaning up*

BRG: Lin, just keep an eye on the patient for 10 minutes. I just want to go give Jordyn some salve that will prevent swelling. I'll be back as quikly as I can.

Upper: Sure thing, doc. He doesn't look to be any trouble.

*BRG leaves carrying a tube of salve, and goes to the bridge*

*Upper sits down on the working surface next to the washbasin, swinging her legs. She pics up a paper cup and pours in some water from the tap. Sipping it slowly, she looks at the patient. Jagger stirs, and opens his eyes*

Jagger: That water sure looks good

Upper: I would give you some, but I don't think you could hold the cup, and I'm sure not going to feed you.

Jagger: Where's your sense of compassion?
Upper: Out the window since your previous stunt when I tried to help you.
Jagger: Fine. Be that way.
*An uncomfortable silence fills the infirmary*

Jagger: The doctor was right you know
Upper: About what?
Jagger: You have an... interesting history.
Upper *warily*: Yeah? What do you know about my history?
Jagger:More than you know
Upper: Oh stop trying to be interesting, or I'll poke you in the shoulder
Jagger: Well, I'm just after the money, but Katie has contacts in Blue Sun. She tells me that the corporation has been involved in some... rather interesting reseach.
Upper: Since I don't know who or what Blue Sun is..
Jagger *interrupts*: But they know who you are. You see, the're having a little trouble with some of their experiments. Unexpected results, you may say.
Upper: Still not getting how this has got anything to do with me.
Jagger: Well, it seems that there are some genetic traits that have been bred out of the human population in the past couple of thousand years. Genetic traits that they suspect may solve their problems. So they needed a...specimen from the past. They were monitoring activity to see where you would end up. They were waiting, but there was a miscalculation. Lucky for you you ended up in this ship, instead of in space. When they didn't find the body they sent us to search all the ships that were in close proximity to the area. And here you are.
*Upper pulls back*
Upper: But what about the bioweapons?
Jagger *grinning* Bonus! Two for the price of one.
Upper: Right. So where do we go from here?
Jagger: You get to go to my friends at Blue Sun, and I get rich.
Upper: Not sure that works for me, I...
*BRG enters the infirmary*
BRG: Right, Lin, you're free to go... do what ever you do on this ship.
Jagger: See you soon.
*Upper looks at the doctor, then at Jagger, then she rushes from the infirmary*

BRG: Did I say something?
Jagger *grinning*: No, I think it was me.

*The scalpel starts to cut his right arm and Jagger yelps in surprise and pain*
Jagger: Alright! Alright! Blue Sun! They've been doing some genetic research but they needed a specimen from the past. They wanted to create one using DNA of a large ethnic group...
*BRG pushes harder on the scalpel*
BRG: DON'T LIE TO ME.
Jagger: AHH! Duh liou mahng! Tyen-sah hwoon dahn! Ok! Blue Sun was timing the girl's arrival, but they screwed up and she landed on this ship, so they sent us to search the ships in this area!
*The scalpel is put away and Jaggers wounds from it are treated, afterwards, BRG hits the com*
BRG: Captain Zero, Jagger is awake and conscious, I'm going to take him to the rest of the prisoners now.
*Jagger looks up at him confused*
Jagger: I don't need anymore attention for what you did to me?

BRG: Another one to be tied up, Ian.

*Spine reaches for Jagger with an evil grin, and pulls his arms tightly behind him. Jagger grimaces with the pain. Spine notices the cuts on Jagger.*

Spine: Doc! You got some torture and you didn't call me?

BRG: I'm selfish that way

Spine *to Jagger*: Maybe I'll get my chance later!

Zero *over the com*: If you boys are all done down there, I would like to see you in the common area. Girls, you too. We have...things to discuss.

*The crew finishes up what they are doing and go to the common area. Everyone sits down.*

Zero: So, we have some stumbling blocks to deal with, and we will deal with them one by one. In addition we have that job waiting for us, and time is getting short. Now we must just decide what to do. At this time I am open to suggestions. *Zero looks around* Anyone?

Spine: We could just space 'em. Cast off their ship. Who would know? Then we could get on with the job.

BRG: Their employers would know. Not our wisest course.

Zero: Employers? I thought they were working for themselves.

BRG: No. They work for Blue Sun.

*Tillie and Tater gasp. Upper looks up for the first time*

Not much, but I... interrogated Jagger and got some information that is pretty valuable. Jagger and them came here for Upper. Blue Sun was doing some kind of genetic research and they found that... well, I guess something was missing. They needed a specimen from the past, someone... "pure". So they tracked Lin's arrival. Unfortunatly for them, they screwed it up and she landed on our ship. Blue Sun did record all the ships passing by there during that time, and I guess we were one of them because Jagger and his lot are here to take Lin.

I'm fairly sure that they ARE aboard, Jagger just seems too dumb to lie like that, and all the histories of the ship check out. Also I looked at some of the stockpile reports from the end of the Unification War, seven barrels of biotoxins were listed as missing. It's more then possible that at least some of them could be here.
As for the Jagger problem, I have no idea... If it were up to me, I guess I'd kill 'em and them back to Blue Sun in body bags, since there isn't much we COULD do about their employers anyway...

Zero: *with great patience* No offense, Lin, but you're not from here, and you don't know what you're talking about. This ship was rebuilt from top to bottom, from the spotlight to the reactor manifolds, back on Aquila before Captain Walker got the commission to take her up into the black. I was Walker's first mate, and was aboard since the beginning. The story's a load of go-se.

Tillie: Know what? Gotta change my mind. I don't agree. Not with any of it. The whole thing smells.

Spinebite: Now what?!

Tillie: Maybe Jagger deserves to go to the hot place for what he done, but I ain't ready to send 'im there. Not without answers, true answers. He ain't gonna give us nothing but lies, fine; find out who wants him dead more'n us and tell Jagger we're gonna sell 'im to them. Maybe knowing he's on his way to Niska's playroom or some such will loosen his tongue enough to tell why he really boarded the Wash.

Zero: I guarantee you there's a lot of folks wouldn't mind cuttin' a piece outta his hide.

Spinebite: Count me in.

Upperson: No kidding...

BRG: Could be there's a price on his head.

Tatertot: Maybe we could collect a shiny bounty for turning him in.

Tillie: But I want to know the truth first.

Spinebite: What truth? We all know why he came on board the Wash. *glares at Upperson, who glares back at him*

Tillie: Ever since Jagger came aboard we been lied to. *counts on her fingers* Need for medical assistance was a lie. Biotoxins on board was a lie. Two out of three? How much you wanna bet the Upperson story ain't lies too?

Upperson: Thanks for that.

Zero: They may not all be lies, Tillie. Blue Sun wanting Upperson sounds reasonable to me.

BRG: Of course the patient needing medical attention was a ruse designed to get them admitted onto the ship.

Tatertot: But why the lie about the biotoxins?

BRG: Another ruse? But why?

Zero: *smiles grimly, an idea forming* He wanted us distracted. He wanted us searching all over the boat so we wouldn't be paying attention --

BRG: Sleight of hand!

Tillie: Misdirection, like a --

Tatertot: Like a magic trick!

Tillie: But what was he directing our attention away from?

Spinebite: Cargo hold, he said something about the cargo hold.

Zero: Yeah, but he wanted us to look there.

Tatertot: Did he want us to find something there?
