I know that many of us have been hit by the recession, and that many of us are on the job hunt. The browncoats are an amazing network of folks, let's harness that.

Please use this thread as a clearing house for the job search, I don't know how much it will help, but it never hurts to try.

Please post a quick resume summary, and or what you are looking for, desired location, etc. Try to keep it short and succinct

I'll start it off:

I go in for an interview via a temp agency tomorrow morning!

For anyone else looking, a temp agency may be worth looking into.

I too am in the job market. I do have a part time job flagging traffic but it's not much compared to what I was making before.

My resume is too long to post here and as there are only two or three Vermont Browncoats on here and two of us are out of work...

Well, you get the idea.

Got an e-mail today in regards to my latest interview. I won't be called back for a second one.

Gets depressing after a while.

Something will pop up sooner or later... Or I'll win the lottery which ever comes first.. and right now, I think I might have better odds with the lottery.

What kind of work are you looking for? or ideally hoping to find?

I may be in Texas but I have family all over, same for other browncoats. I have family in W. Virginia if that isn't too horribly far to travel for work (bear in mind my definition of horribly far is much different than most, I live in a city on a good day with no traffic it takes about an hour to traverse) , I can ask if they know of anything.

West Virginia is a 12 hour drive... Kinda hard to commute that every day

I don't have a degree but I have experience in Auto parts (7 years) Route Sales (1 year) Aircraft Line Service (3 years) and I was an emergency medical tech on two different Ambulance services for a combined 14 years(10 full time. The rest was volunteer or part time)

I no longer have the EMS certifications and I kinda burned out in that field but just about anything else similar to the above I would take a look at.

Hey just a suggestion to those out there searching.. your local school district is likely looking for classroom assistants. They pay's usually around $9-15 an hour depending on education and such. They do a background check, but the positions usually come with benefits. They don't need you to have education experience either... so check your local districts!!

Good suggestion, I had already hit the school districts up, but it might help someone else, another place to check is with the districts themselves, the local citiies, etc, Also, I hear the census bureau is doing a lot of hiring for next years census... its another possibility.

Also, good standing temp agencies, I interviewed with one on Monday, and they are already sending out feelers of possible job interviews. Really hoping something good comes from it.

Thought I would post an update, I started working again Aug 3. I'm grateful to have a job, but I want out of this one as soon as something better comes around.

Benefits are good, pay is ok, but its so high stress (and many of yall know I thrive in high stress) its making me physically sick.

but hey, I'm working. If I'm still here in a year I will have vacation, sick days & 401k. Starting next month I have health, optical and dental insurance (even if the deductible is stupidly high).

Congrats on the job, Artcat. Despite the high stress. *wince* I know right now a job is a job and gratitude for one is a must.

We've still got our one employee. Still holding on by the skin of our teeth. Things are a bit better though.

Good luck all Browncoats out there!

STOWEAWAY

I wanted to make a suggestion for anyone who is out of work & looking....

If there is a Carmax dealership nearby, it is worth applying for a job. They have lots of positions other than a car salesperson, if that's not your cup o' tea. The company is stable and the benefits are outstanding.

Okay... is the Darkhorse comics position filled? cause wow talk about dream job

Two...

If you live in any states but AK, HI, NH, and CA... plus a few others (laws about it) I have worked for LiveOps.com since 2005. I'm not making fulltime wages but I'm paying bills at least.

You need broadband access, and a plain ole telephone line w/o bells and whistles.

It's something.
