It's been 7 days since my last status update for FFF.NET 2.0. Here is where we're at.

I managed to get the forum, blog, and Blue Sun Room up so that at least those pages are viewable. Can't create new posts yet, but I'll probably start adding some of those functions in this weekend.

I had a bit of issue with the fanfics so that it would retain most of the hacks for text styles, alignment, etc., but got it close enough that at least most of the text will display as the author intended. If any of you come across a particular fanfic that's really messed up, please let me know so that I can tweak the code to get it to display properly. The same goes for the forum posts and blogs.

Anyway, work is ongoing, but please take a look. Comments and suggestions are welcome.

For several reasons, but primarily to update the site and bring it up to speed so that we'll be around for another 10 years.

2X2

Hey Haken, thanks for all the work you've done and are doing to keep the best place on the 'net going! We all appreciate it!

On to the New Site:
The 'Other Fics' and 'Other Artwork' sidebar is a nice addition when looking at Blue Sun Room posts, I like that!

I like the highlighting on the menu to let us know which page we're viewing, that's nice.

A couple of 'personal preference' things...
I find the headers on the Home page for the 'Latest Fan Artwork', 'Support FFF.net' etc. look blurry because of the thin lines and shadow, makes my eyes go funny, but that (obviously) could just be me ;o)

I find the artwork thumbnails are a bit big and take up a lot of space, they could be smaller so that more is visible without having to scroll down...

I find the old site looks 'cleaner' without the alternating blue and black backgrounds behind each new item in the 'Recent BlueSun Room Postings' and 'Shiny News' etc. columns.

I'm a fan of the 'low profile' menus and headers on the old site. The new ones seem really big to me.

But as I said, all that stuff is just personal preference, and easy enough to get used to!!

Its very SHINY, Thank You for working so hard on 'our' little home, I really don't know where I'd go if this site went away. Sometimes I think its the only sane place in the world.
Again,...Thank You...words can't tell you how important this place is to me.

So replies work. Shiny.

I'll click around some to see if I find anything I, uh, don't like. For now I'm with 2X2 on the thumbnails being larger than necessary.

And I agree that the fanfic sidebar showing all the author's fanfics/chapters is ii]teh awesome.

By way of playing about, let's try out this link to a motorcycle forum

Nope. Keeps adding target="_blank"> stuff that somehow messes up the link, leading to the dreaded "webpage not found".

I understand such glitches take time to fix, no worries.

Shiny what you're still doing for the 'Verse, Haken. Thanks.

*puts orange cones and yellow tape around FFF 2.0*

The text in the tag log is a bit blurry, and the right column stuff still overlaps the middle column.

What browser are you running? And what screen resolution do you have?

I'm not sure what's going with the Taglog since the text looks fine to me on all the major browsers (IE, Mozilla, Chrome, and Safari). The only thing I can think of is that you don't have a particular font and your browser is substituting in a different one. If you can do a screen cap and show me what you see, it'll help me out.

As for the column on the right overlapping the middle, I thought I had fixed that. Again, looks fine to me on all the major browsers on my end. The only exception I can think of is IE8, since I've had issues with it in the past, but in this case, in both compatibility and non-compatibility mode, the page still looks fine to me.

I can't fix what I can't see. Again, if you can provide me with the name and version of your browser and your screen resolution, it'll help me reproduce the problem so that I can fix it.

Thanks,
Haken

I use IE6 (windowed not fullscreen) in 800x600.

There's empty space to the right, I can scroll that way, so it's not the edge of the window pushing it over.

Also, is the Shiny News in the right column (in the middle) supposed to start up by the BSR postings? It's down about where the Blogs are.

Being that the new version is heavy on the CSS and IE 6.0 only has partial support for CSS, it's going to be a problem. Released in 2001 with Windows XP, IE 6.0 is older than FFF.NET.

I'll see if I can dig up a copy of 6.0. Meanwhile I highly recommend the latest version of Mozilla Firefox as an alternative to IE should you wish to upgrade to a modern browser.

Here's another one.

When I tried to post this reply at 2.0 (I gave up), the reply box started out about a page tall, but was only the width of a cursor. I typed the letter "A", it got that much wider. I held down "D", it got that much wider, pulling the thread title, "Write your response here:", and Save Response button <- left into oblivion.

There's that left direction again....

Posting (and replying) throughout the entire site isn't ready yet, which explains the problem you're having. As I have stated in the post at the beginning of this thread, I'll be working on some of that this weekend so that people can post and reply. Just wait a bit, it'll be ready soon. I'll keep you all posted.

I like so far. Only thing is the orange-red heading with the white text (and orange headings with yellow text) on the main page. It bugs my eyes, dunno if it bugs anybody else (if I'm the only one I'll just have to deal with it, lol).

LOVE the banner on the top, love the additions everyone else has mentioned above.

Oh sweet, we can log in without having to re-register *major thumbs up* I've been on forums where you have to create your account all over again. Sucks.

Edit: the color scheme within the threads is AWESOME. Love the whole transparent-y subdued orange in the header and the post footers.

Question: what's gonna happen to this site once the other one is fully functional?

The yellow text on the red-orange (?) background did seem hard to read, but I figured it was because of MY default font and font size.
Didn't figure I had much right to complain, and I figured I could fix it on my end.
