How Han won and modified the Falcon,, maybe how he met Chewie? Oh, yes! If they can do as good a job as they did with Rogue One - oh, yes indeed! A good film to watch that would be, mmm, yes!

A chance to ruin Han Solo like they ruined Anakin Skywalker. Wonderful!

I think this is another one to pass on. I'll stick to movies that move the story forward not backward.

Directors both fired about 3/4 way through filming. Ron Howard at the helm now.

Having Lego Movie under their belts, they wanted to make this a comedy also.

LOL... that would be funny if Han's back story was that he used to go by Michael Bluth.

He has a decent track record with his movies, but hasn't had a bona fide hit since; Parenthood.

Quote:

The Oscar-winning Howard has a diverse filmography, with past projects ranging in size and scope from big-budget outings like "Willow" and "Angels and Demons" to smaller films like "Parenthood" and "Frost/Nixon."

This could get ugly. But he does have a flair for the action-based movie "Willow" for example, although "Angels and Demons" was, well, not so good.

Here's Hollywood's take on the move:

Quote:

When less established indie hire Gareth Edwards went off track on “Rogue One,” he had to step aside as “Bourne” franchise writer-director Tony Gilroy helped to reshoot and reorganize the final product. The trick with JJ Abrams or Rian Johnson or Colin Trevorrow is selecting directors who are team players capable of keeping the larger goals in mind, and not drawing outside the lines. That, apparently, Lord and Miller did not do—running with a different interpretation of Han Solo than Kasdan. In this case, a reinvention of the Han Solo character for a new generation was not in the cards. Of course Ron Howard is a superb competent director (“Apollo 13,” “A Beautiful Mind,” “Rush”) who can execute with the best of them. He knows what to do and will do it well. But like Edgar Wright’s “Ant Man,” I  suspect the movie we will never see was more exciting and unexpected than the one that will hit global screens in 2018.
KATE ERBLAND: There’s no question that after the massive upheaval of Lord and Miller leaving the project with just a few weeks left to go in principal photography, Lucasfilm is desperate for anything resembling stability. Howard is a good guy for that, a seasoned professional with plenty of blockbuster experience and two Oscars to boot, and he’ll likely be able to soothe frazzled nerves and get the mechanics of the filmmaking process running smoothly in no time. That’s the draw here: He’s a safe choice, and what was so exciting about the initial hiring of Lord and Miller was that they weren’t.
Howard will surely make a perfectly serviceable feature, delivered on time and with a minimum of drama, but the fallout from this will always eclipse that final product. Not just in terms of the Han Solo movie we’ll never see — though that stings, too — but because it shows that Lucasfilm and “Star Wars” aren’t ready to take a real gamble on unique talents just yet, even when they seem so happy to keep telling us that they are.

Well, this should be fun. The article makes several good points, still though who's running the ship - Howard, Kasdan or Kennedy?

I think the character of Han would be more interesting if he really were some ' nobody ', and that the idea of a prequel is a bit of a stretch.

Not saying the movie won't be good. I hope it is. But my 2 cents being... character wise, I think it'd be better if Han, more of a low life, scruffy looking nerf herder type, with through no real forethought on his own, was thrust into this huge galactic saga.

Maybe he'll be shown to be more nefarious, and shifty in his youth, and less heroic.

We'll see.

You think Han was in any way a ' believer ', in any cause other than himself, like Malcolm Reynolds ?

I don't get that impression. Even after he did a u-turn, cash in hand, and came back to help Luke and the rebellion. THAT was a true moment for Han, one which I think even surprised Chewbacca. It certainly made Princess Leia think of him differently.

It'll be interesting to see what they dream up for 'young' Han. Hope it's something surprising.

I get the impression you don't know who Ron Howard is.
Parenthood - 1989. Was that a hit? Really?
Backdraft - 1991.
Apollo 13 - 1995.
Ransom - 1996.
A Beautiful Mind - 2001. Hello? Oscar?
The Da Vinci Code - 2006.
Angels & Demons - 2009.

Regarding the earlier years of Han - if he is twice shy in the Episodes 4-6, wouldn't that mean he was bitten before? His aversion to risk may be the result of prior heroics without the reward. And he was already famous for the Kessel Run when we met him.

C'mon... he did Arrested Development. One of the best sitcoms ever made.

It makes you realize just how un-funny most sitcoms would be if they didn't have a laugh track to tell you when you were supposed to laugh.

Really wish they'd slow down with the Star Wars spin-offs, Rogue One was "meh" enough as it was.

What Star Wars film did you like better?
Other than the original Episode 4, Rogue One seemed the best parts of cinematic storytelling. Better than Episodes 1, 2, 6.

Rogue One was a decent offshoot of the main saga that is Star Wars. The script was key and the story kept my interest. I would have liked it if Jyn Erso were to have survived and continued as a rebel into old age. It was a decent stand-alone film.

I think it makes sense to build upon the history of the main characters, the next logical step. But, it all depends upon the script, that is the key to a wonderful
story. I would like to see how Han and Lando met and about their "friendship."
Also big, loveable Chewie.
