THIS THREAD IS FULL OF SPOILERS!!! YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!!!

Anybody else seen it yet? I thought it was pretty good. Better than Thor IMO. They were able to have a lot more action since Captain America doesn't really need super over the top CGI to do his thing.

I don't think they did a good job with the Red Skull. I just never really cared about him. He didn't seem to have much personality. Just "I'm evil and want to burn everything to the ground mwuahahahahahahaha". He showed just a tiny bit of jealousy of Cap right near the end. They could have focused on that a lot more IMO.

Love story didn't work too well either. They had zero chemistry and didn't seem to form much of a connection. She was just the first woman he ever got to actually talk to.

Glad they zipped right through him being frozen and found and thawed out. One less thing they need to cover to get moving in Avengers. They still have to cover a way of getting Thor back and however they're going to work Hulk into the mix, but at least it's not anymore difficult than that.

I'm sure Bucky will have the same basic story of getting frozen and found later. I just hope that's not part of avengers. We don't need all the side kicks around in the team up IMO.

Saw it! Fun, fun, fun. Better than Thor and about even with X-Men: First Class. Thought that the Red Skull was good and evil, in an evil sort of way. Hugo Weaving played it exactly right. Slightly insane without being over the top, you know, your basic evil genius who doesn't understand why the good guy is so good at pestering him.

Agree about the love interest, it was tepid at best. Although Hayley Atwell was solid in her performance. I fault the writing and to some degree, the director, for the lack of chemistry. Chris Evans was pitch perfect as Cap America.
TLJ was a perfect casting choice. Overall a really good job at the treatment of Cap. Joe Johnston was a good choice as director (he did The Rocketeer years back), so he's good at action movies. It was a well-paced story with a lot of good humor sprinkled throughout. 2 Thumbs up (with apologies to Mr. Ebert).

Couldn't disagree more with this bit. I thought their chemistry was great, and felt they were the first romance in a Marvel Universe movie I even remotely cared about.

Really!? Gorramit! I missed that. I stayed for most of the credits, but left when I saw nothing. Must've been at the very end of the credit roll.

Well, I have to see it again. Although I did feel for Cap at the end when he flies off with the plane. That scene was well done, for a comic book movie.

Of the 5 Marvel studios films, only The Incredible Hulk didn't have a scene after the credits ended.

I've been totally converted to the whole Marvel thing. I had zero interest around Iron Man time but now I'm really enjoying the saga.

Captain America was a fun film. A worthy addition. I enjoyed it a lot. And I love the way it was filmed. That rich golden hue that is prevalent during the development stages was awesome. Really nice stuff. I'd say pound for pound Joe Johnston's best film since Honey I shrunk the Kids.
Evans was spot on and Haley Atwell was perfect, I thought their relationship credible and oozing chemistry, and the supporting cast were all adroit in their roles.

Have to feel sorry for Hugo Weaving though. Poor fellow seems to suffer the indignatiy of having his face masked in films...

Very much looking forward to Joss' contribution to the saga.

GWEK

I thought it was a great "old school" movie, following the classic character arc of the hero's journey. Very well-done script with a lot of nice moments (for example, the parallelism of both experiments having problems at 70% but being pushed to 100% anyway; Steve crashing awkwardly through a brital shop immediately after getting his powers--subtly showing that he's still "clumsy" around women; I could go on and on...).

I know some posters felt that the villain was a little two-dimensional or that the romance wasn't that great, but for those kind of story, I think that was perfect. This movie had a feeling of nostalgia, of "days gone by," to it.

Between CAPTAIN AMERICA and SUPER 8, I almost felt like I was 12 years old again this summer!

Oh, that scene was there, it was just at the end of the movie proper, not after the credits.
