This may be a completely impossible and therefore pointless idea but does anybody know if it would be possible for FOX to shoot the unshot episodes of Firefly that there are?

I have no idea how many there are or if it's even remotely possible. So far as I know the Writers Strike is still going on leaving TV networks without new material to show so if they were introduced to this idea would there be any chance of it happening? Especially if we then started a campaign in support of it.

I realise that it is really unlikely but it just popped into my head and I just had to see if there was even the slightest chance.

So if anybody who has any knowledge of this kind could say everything they know it would be so helpful.

Who knows. We might end up doing the impossible and getting more firefly!

As I understand it, a lot of the existing shows that DO have scripts already written, are still going unshot - for the plain & simple reason that there are no writers willing to do RE-WRITES on certain scenes when it turns out they don't really "flow" the way the writers and directors originally hoped.

Couple that with the sheer number of actors, directors, and other industry types who are unwilling to cross the picket lines, and the chances of Firefly starting production anytime soon (or ever) are nil.

All that being said, it DOES seem like a perfect time for Faux Network to re-run the entire Firefly series, in the correct order. There's so little on TV right now, what's the worst that could happen? They'd get some ratings, maybe?

In the meantime, I'm watching and re-watching my favorites on DVD, and supporting the writers in their strike!

Are there more than just the one?

It was an episode with very few interiors on Serenity; if they still have the bay and cockpit sets from the movie they could probably make do. Mostly exteriors. Tons of extras, though; that would be pricy. Night shoot as well.

Wait a minute... I forgot a giant part of it which would be FX. Eek.

Never mind. I'd love to see it but doubt it would happen.

I was pretty much thinking along those lines after the hope burst from the original idea had faded somewhat but I just couldn't not put it up here.

I think it would be a great idea for Fox to bring it out of the vault and rerun the show. I'm sure it would find quite a few new viewers, especially if they would air it at a decent time.
But, on second thought, that would be what a smart group of people would do and we know Fox just ain't up there with 'em.

As far as I'm aware, the only unshot script was written by Cheryl Cain but was very similar in a number of ways (eg theme) to The Message, hence it was never produced. I can't remember the title (maybe The Posse) but you can find the script online if you search.

EDIT: Did the search. It's called "Dead or Alive" and you can read it here.

My opinion would be that because it was later cannabilised, there'd be no point in shooting it. There may, obviously, be other story outlines and so on but I'd've thought any scripts would probably be on-line by now.

Also, I suspect that the studio would have to already own the scripts because otherwise to the writers, they'd be one of their tools in the strike action.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

Not gonna happen. I would love for it to be otherwise, but it would be too expensive, since they would have to rebuild the sets. Even Universal did not keep the Serenity set, and Fox got rid of theirs five years ago. Besides, as has been stated, several ideas from the only unfilmed script were transformed into "The Message," so that existing script would have to be rewritten as well, something Joss is certainly not going to do during the strike.

Would be interesting to see NBC or FOX, whom ever hods the rights to the show now to just rerun the episodes on network TV, in order, just to see what kind of reception it gets.

Never know what might happen with proper marketing.

Hey, whaddya all mean, Dead or Alive is no good anymore? I think it gives lots of good info that we didn't get elsewhere. Who's to say Mal didn't have a few more war buddies survive?

I loved what we learned about Simon and River in that one. Made Simon seem less 2-dimensional.

Don't forget the Universal HD is running the whole series this spring.

I agree with Grizwald. Yeah it was kinda like The Message but we did learn a lot of new stuff and it was much darker than The Message really as Tracy hadn't really changed that much fromt he guy Mal knew in the war. Plus the Simon thing made it much better!

So back to the dragging Firefly out of the vault - does anybody know what the likelihood of that happening is? Especially if we asked them all polite like? :)

At a guess, I'd say no one is in a hurry to pull Firefly out of the vault just now. Hurts me to say it, but I can't see it any other way.

Networks are running out of shows, that's true. BUT - there are still shows out there that are (a) more recent, and (b) more easily continued if the audience were found. F'r instance, NBC has this little show called "The Black Donnellys" that aired to much critical acclaim, and an entire 13-ep season was filmed and in the can. However, ratings for the show sucked, and it was pulled out of NBC's schedule after only six episodes aired. If NBC were desperate enough, they could pull it back out and air it, complete and in order, and it might pull SOME ratings.

Ditto a little show they had called "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip", except that they actually finished airing the entire season before they pulled the plug and put it under wraps. Both shows were killed in the last 12 to 18 months, though, so they could theoretically be brought back to life without too much trouble.

Realistically, I'm afraid that Firefly might be TOO good for the networks to take a chance on now. Picture it: Fox re-airs Firefly, to monster ratings; it's a smash hit, only it's too late - Nathan, Jewel, Summer, and Adam all have moved on to full-time gigs on other shows. What now? How to continue if ratings DEMANDED a new season and a resurrection of the 'Verse?

Crazy as it sounds, that's probably a network exec's version of the "worst-case scenario" - not that the show bombs its second time around (which would vindicate the original idiots who cancelled it), but that it becomes the breakout hit that they can't continue!

Just thinkin' out loud...

Mike
