Just figured this one out about "The Train Job"

There were two things about "The Train Job" that had me a bit confused until I tied the two together recently. It only took about five viewings for my feeble brain to get it.

In the beginning of the episode, the belly dancer slips something into Mal's hand. I thought it was money, and didn't understand why she'd be slipping him some scratch.

I also didn't understand how, with all the brawling, they managed to find a contact for their job. "Ladies and menfolk, we have a job."

So of course, once I put these together I realized that the belly dancer was the contact. Is something wrong with my brain that it took me this long to get that?

No, my friend, there ain't. I needed just about the same number of viewings to get it.

Unless, of course, there's something wrong with my brain too.

That thing just goes to say you gotta keep your eyes open when watching Firefly or you miss things.

Yes, it's because I blink. I blame blinking for missing that.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

The moral of this story?

Never blink when there is a bellydancer on screen.

Got it - done.

While there have been other things that I missed on early viewings, this one I happen to have caught... Probably because I was staring at the belly dancer...

Having known several people who belly dance, including my wife, I have been educated on proper belly dancing etiquette.

It is considered rude if you do not stare at their hips.

Well, lest you all think that The Real Me is stupid, blind, or "sly", I most certainly DID notice the belly dancer and it turns out that I did observe proper ettiquette.

But I did not notice any non-dancing activites that she did. Then again, I have only seen this episode * gasp * once.

As a belly dancer, I concur whole-heartedly.

I caught it because of the aforementioned inclination to belly dance and said, "hey that girl ALMOST knows what she's about there".

"Just keep walkin, preacher man."

Didn't pick that up at all!!! That's the beauty of Joss' work. The more you watch it, you pick up on those little things.

I'll see it again tonight! Thanks.

Yes there is something wrong with your brain. I not only saw the contact being made the first time I watched the episode, but managed to do it while averting my eyes from the belly dancin'.
So there!

She understands, she doesn't comprehend

The opening scene has a strong "Casablanca" vibe, where the flamenco guitarist also passes a secret message in an early scene.

I was too busy drooling, lusting and all manner of goggle-eyed to notice even if she dropped an atom bomb, but hey, that's me...
