I've watched this episode a few times and have always been distracted by what is actually happened to notice one particluar thing...

Summer Glau has the best, most hysterical expressions throughout the whole episode. Seriously.

In the scene where the crew initially enter the Heart of Gold, she's standing behind Wash and Kaylee. And all during that scene, she keeps giving Wash the funniest looks. Considering the implications in OIS that she's a reader, I'd really like to know what Wash is *really* thinking as he keeps claiming that he's a happily married man and not interested in the whores.

Then later, when the baby is actually being born and Petaline is heavy into the screaming by this point, and Nandi is trying to explain to Inara about what happened, she looks totally grossed out by the whole thing. Which, considering it was her who was all calm in the previous scene where Simon and Inara were freaking out "I wonder who's in there" and then she looks as if she's thinking "I don't care who it is, as long as they stay there!".

It's just funny. She steals the show.

America loves a winner!

Wow, you really a stickler for detail. Good eye. And I completely agree. River is hilarious to watch. Worth watching that ep again, if only to catch her moments on screen.

OT: Recently caught Angel 'Waiting in the wings'ep where Summer plays the ballerina in the enchanted dance company. Watching her, and listening to what Joss says in the commentary, it's clear that Summer is a VERY special and unique talent.
